This was a good update, and for the future, I'd hope the updates would be like this as well. It was honest and re-assuring that the project is handeled like it should, despite they have ran over schedule. The big things they've done are technical and not that sexy subjects for updates, so I do understand why the previous updates have been a bit bony, but now that the framework has been done, I hope updates of this quality to continue. And more love to SVrewards as well :)

nockgeneer reacted to Dat Engineer in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateWould you say that he's a...
Trowe-jan horse?
(Sorry, I had to go there)
-
nockgeneer reacted to Intendant S in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI heard from the horse's ass himself that the 250K units was how many keys he gave out to retailers. I have absolutely no idea on the number actually sold.
On a related note, I'm glad to have cut ties with him when I did. As Spikey said, Polyester Paul is death by association. I wouldn't care less if he was vindictive enough to pull my testing credits. I still want my star kept intact, though. I paid good money for it. I know Jeroen sent Al an e-mail and I plan on doing one myself. He needs to "break the chain" and pull free himself. I've got way too much respect for the ol' guy to see anything happen to his good name.

nockgeneer reacted to Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateSpoke to Jeroen about this. I'm in favour of a petition or one single well-written letter signed by a number of fans. I'll probably relegate myself to the background of affairs as I think I'm spending way much time on TroweGate right now. It's becoming a bit too much and I want to gear down and take a deep breath. But I definitely support the initiative.
-
nockgeneer reacted to Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateYeah, I can understand if those of you who have been screwed over Trowe wish to contact Codemasters, but that's something you have to do separately from the SpaceVenture promotional effort. As passioned as I am about adventure game developers not being dicks, I didn't back the Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded Kickstarter. It'd be wrong for me to contact Codemasters because it'd seem like I'm only in it for the mischief and ultimately, it may reflect negatively upon Guys From Andromeda and the fan projects I have been involved in. And I don't want that to happen.
So, by all means, I think you should organise yourselves. Intendant S, DrJ, cavefish, Fronzel Neekburm, Irishmile, etc. Everyone who got the short end of the stick and want to see their beloved Larry in more capable hands. But for a lot of SpaceVenture fans, the discussion probably ends here as it'd just have too dire consequences if we followed you down that road. Those of us need to find the positivity and prepare ourselves mentally for GFA's October 16 update.

I doubt it. He's quite stubborn, obviously. Either he's being stubborn in spite of being in the wrong here or he lives in his own little world where he's always right and everybody else is totally unreasonable. I tend to suspect the latter. Some people have just never learned to think before they speak
I feel sorry for anyone who's ever signed up to work with him. Sorrier still for those trapped in a contract with him. Anyone who has been let go as a result of his personal outburst should count themselves lucky.
EDIT: You know, Datadog mentioned earlier about how there used to be lots of drama in the adventure community and it's true. Part of the reason I believe this backfired on Paul as much as it did is because we've all been there before. The adventure community has had quite a lot of dissention and disunity in the past. Between AGDI and IA for a brief time, there was some animosity towards POS when they first started, even the SQ community had quite a lot of what you could call a civil war for quite a long while (split right down the middle). And there are many other examples. Paul would have been right at home during that time.
We've all been there and we've all grown up and put it behind us. The reason these Kickstarters have been so successful is because we've all banded together to see it happen. All across the board. We're done with fighting amongst one another and that'll be the day we let somebody come along and ruin the good thing we've created for ourselves. We've shown that we won't be dragged down to that petty pit again. Cheers, guys. This is why we have overcome and why SpaceVenture will succeed (and why Paul Trowe won't).

nockgeneer reacted to DrJ in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateHello everybody,
Thank you for all the support. After reading Paul's comment on KS, I was done.
After him banning and deleting ALL the posts that Serena created on the forum, I'm even more done.
I've been active in the community for a long time (started all on the QuestStudios forum - hence this nickname). When the Sierra revival started with Leisure Suit Larry, I just couldn't sit by and not try to get involved. I've been grateful to be able to help out and provide my professional help to this project. I still stand behind all the work I've done and I'm happy to have helped bring this game to market. Josh Mandel is an awesome guy and I would work for him or ANYONE at N-Fusion Studios in a heartbeat! All such talented people that have such a great heart for the gaming industry.
I know more than I would say on here (I like to remain taking the high road) - but I just want to thank everyone for supporting us (Serena, Irish, Tom & myself) for speaking out against something we believe in. The adventure game community is a tight community and I am proud to be part of it. If anything, this experience has taught me a lot and I'm very grateful for all the people I got to know through this.
Thanks everyone.
Jeroen

nockgeneer reacted to Blackthorne in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI got everyone's back here. Troels can vouch - I weep like a girl when I get nostalgic about my Adventure Games, and when my friends are down.
Aside from one persons pointless attacks, everyone here has been very, vert cool and amazingly supportive to each other - both fans and developers. That to me is what is important here. I see all kinds of people posting in here, and I know almost everyone - personally. We're in good company, and the Two Guys are in good company. I personally know how difficult development can be, and getting of the ground as a functioning entity is. But we have support - we are in this together.
So, much love to The Two Guys and The Space Pope, and much love to all the supportive peeps who not only give their love, time, and support to projects like SpaceVenture, but to all kinds of Adventure Game projects all over the place. I am proud to be a part of the community, and I'm also the fortunate recipient of a lot of support myself. I never take that for granted. Some people just don't know what they have.

nockgeneer reacted to Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateYa'll are gonna have to stop posting for a little while. I'm using up my like quota here.

nockgeneer got a reaction from Intendant S in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateThanks for the heads-up Frede. This thread is a great example of what the SQ community stands for. Paul is like a 4-year-old who doesn't understand why his brother's toys can't be his. This community is like the parent trying to explain those reasons to him. The only reason it means anything is because, if anything, it should probably be the other way around. Anyway, as I posted to Scott, Mark, and Chris on Kickstarter, GO TEAM!

nockgeneer reacted to Estirdalin in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateUgh, hate to see stuff like this happen in a community like ours which is such a small niche of the games industry and naturally could benefit from the solidarity. Since starting work on our own KS, and following the progress of many peers and heroes doing likewise, I have been so impressed by the level of support from the fans but also other developers. It is in all our best interests, fans and devs alike, to make this adventure game revival a success and a big part of that is fostering an attitude of camaraderie. There is no benefit on a personal, or genre-wide level to bad mouthing other projects, but even if one were to take an entirely selfish view of the situation, it should suffice to say that when it comes to adventure games, it's a small world, everyone knows everyone else. Burn your bridges with enough people and eventually you're gonna be marooned on your own little island of spite.
Fair enough, express your concerns if a project looks like it's in trouble, but do it in a respectful, helpful manner, or you just make yourself look like short sighted a-hole. I agree with the overall sentiment here, kudos to all for your classy response to this situation, it's an honour to be a part of this community with you.

nockgeneer reacted to Datadog in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI hate that Replay is suffering for this. One person should not speak for a talented team of artists and programmers, yet it seems his employees are cutting ties with people just to keep their jobs (Banning? Unfriending? I though the soap opera days of the adventure game community were over.)
Let's just keep supporting SpaceVenture where it stands. If one in 10,809 backers isn't making with the support, the rest can pick up the slack.

I'm sorry for you guys who volunteered for the Larry remake who are now getting backlashed by Trowe. It really means a lot to know that you have the Guys' backs and that you would sacrifice your standings for speaking your minds.
Tom, your post at the Kickstarter comments were a scary insight. I'm sorry it came to that. Intendent_S, I'm sorry to hear you got excommunicated for your troubles. DutchMagic, thank you for being awesome.
-
nockgeneer reacted to Irishmile in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateAlso I'm going to be honest here even IF SpaceVenture fell through completely and never came out I would be sad but not pissed the Two Guys and Mr Pope are awesome and deserved the chance to do this and I am still glad I dropped a bunch of money on their project.
-
nockgeneer reacted to Irishmile in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateWhat a completely disappointing series of events. I still have a full on raging nerd boner over Space Quest it's going to be awesome. Serena I'm glad to have gotten to work with ya but I'm sure you've noticed I stopped volunteering my time with replay months ago without Josh Mandel there it wasn't the same.
-
nockgeneer reacted to Intendant S in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateSo it appears speaking your mind gets punished by being kicked out of the club. Not only have I been asked to leave the team because I wouldn't take back what I've said here but I've been locked out of the Replay forums completely. I can't even read what's posted. All the time and effort I've put forth to help Larry get released was rewarded with a great big "Fuck you!" Thanks for showing your true colors, Paul. If you're still monitoring this thread then I want you to know I'm not supporting any future Larry games as long as you're at the helm.

Actually, maybe his appearance was timed just right. For all its incensing content, it's proven a good catalyst for gauging the true fans' reactions to the project status. From what I can gather, you still have faith that The Two Guys will deliver a game that will, by the very definition, deliver, instead of skimping on things to reach milestones.
