I'm sorry for not replying to this thread sooner, but thank you very much for the feedback, everyone! The amount of coverage this little game is getting is remarkable, and being part of this whole project is surreal, to say the least.
Regarding the SQ theme in the outro: I've mentioned this elsewhere, but at first, I was hesitant to use that music (since it's from SQ6, which wasn't technically a Two Guys project). However, In the end I figured, why let a little detail like that get in the way of an otherwise perfect piece for that scene?

nockgeneer reacted to pcj in SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?Let me just say this, if it weren't for Chris, you would probably not be hearing anything out of the Two Guys (relevant to SpaceVenture). It's not their fault either - they're just not promoters like Chris is. If you listened to many of the commentaries, the guys tend to ramble off-topic occasionally and Chris is the one who brings them back.
The Two Guys have full control over the game. Chris provides input, sure, but Scott and Mark have final say on everything.
Incidentally, if you want unfiltered access to Scott and Mark, they show up occasionally on Twitter - @SlashVohaul & @Wilcofever
Do you have any ideas on making the websites more navigable? I'd be happy to give that a look if you have anything in particular in mind.

Pledge Quest 2 was amazing guys! Great job making it fun to play with so much humor. The artwork and music was awesome as well!*SPOILER ALERT* Of course I gotta admit, I got some chills watching the Two Guys plan SQ1 in the game!! Again, really good work! :)

nockgeneer reacted to Lunchbox in What made Space Quest specialIts a difficult question to really answer but for me personally Space Quest was special for all the right reasons. I was a pretty goofy kid who was in love with Star Trek, Star Wars and pretty much anything sci-fi. I eventually grew up to be a goofy adult who is still in love with Star Trek, Star Wars and anything sci-fi. But Space Quest filled an amazing void in my childhood. Filled it with great laughs, great friends what else could I want out of a 20 year old game?

While I do take commissions (well, technically I've only taken one so far), I'm still willing to make exceptions for members of relatively small fandoms that I'm also part of (it depends what sort of art/animation I'm being asked to make).
I try not to quit any project I get involved with without a very good reason, though I might get slowed down because of other commitments. I had a lot of stuff going on during the development of PQ2, which really dragged out the whole thing. (Pledge Quest II was 3 months in the making, but it's barely a third as large as Adventure: The Inside Job, which took me about 6 months to make.)
Speaking of art, I've got a few pieces of PQ2 concept art I need to upload once I get back to my place.
EDIT: And I'm sorry I forgot to bring it up when I first posted this message, but that story about your daughter was adorable, s_d. Thank you for sharing it. (Also, thanks to everyone who's spreading the news about the game!)

Way awesome, Akril!
I'm so impressed with you two (and no, you don't have to go being modest and crediting Jess, as usual! I already gave him kudos via PM, so there :P ).
Funny story; I really don't play games in front of my toddler for a number of reasons (being not even 3yrs old, we've pretty much completely eschewed violent imagery in front of her, for the time being), but I felt I was under a time crunch for Linux, and wanted to play through PQII thoroughly for testing. So, she crawls out of the beanbag chair and hops up on the couch next to me, staring intently at the game... this time I let her watch.
It was pretty funny hearing her commentary along with the game (for example, nearly every time I brought up the inventory, she'd ask "Where is the girl? Where did she go, Papa? I can't see her.", etc., ad infinium). I finally began positioning Bea to the left of the inventory before raising it, every time. She remarked about the "funny cat" because of the spoiler on his face, and how silly it was that he was spoiler on top of spoiler! At one point she asked frankly whether or not Bea was learning to pee in the toilet like a big girl, in an unexpected reflection of what is important in her little world at present. :) The biggest surprise was when I replied that Bea was going to travel spoiler spoil... and had zero questions back, as if doing so made all the sense in the world.
The crux is that PQII was her first adventure game, from beginning to end, and she loved it. Especially all the fish jokes. ;)

Thank you very much for the feedback, everyone! I'm glad to hear that everyone is enjoying the game.
Leaving the issue of our current post-release exhaustion out of the equation at the moment, I'm not sure what other sort of game we could collaborate on. But who knows -- maybe we might be inspired to do something non-Pledge Quest/Space Quest related someday. -
Hey everyone,
Sorry about the extreme scarcity of updates to this thread, but at long last I can finally announce that work on Pledge Quest II is finally nearing completion! It should hopefully be ready to download within the next week. Jess and I have spent a long time working on this thing, and it shouldn't be long before we finally have something to show for our efforts (as well as something to help promote the SpaceVenture stretch goals)!

nockgeneer reacted to Troels Pleimert in Broken Sword returnsA little update on the situation: I actually got an e-mail from Charles Cecil last night, because he seems to be doing some pretty damn good damage control on the subject. He has openly expressed admiration for Cummins' work, he greenlit BASS2 even though BS5 didn't meet the required stretch goal, and he expressed interest in reconciling with Cummins in the e-mail I received. Trouble is, he has no idea where Cummins has got to.
If any of us can track down Dave Cummins, we might have a chance of a proper Steel Sky 2. That is, if he'd be willing to work with Charles Cecil again -- and, based on the e-mails I got from him back in '97/'98, probably not.
But hey -- Dave Gibbons is on board with BASS2. So there's always that. :)

Kirk was an Admiral, he never pushed papers, he just kept stealing the Enterprise out from under whoever was in command :)

You should do it at a time where we can get Mark and Scott on from the convention. :y:

nockgeneer got a reaction from penguinfan in SpaceVenture Haiku, Limericks, Ballads, and other poetryMy attempt at a SpaceVenture sonnet — Shakespear style:
Thine mind might dream of flight and fancy's fronds
Whilst impotent thee face reality.
A welcome sight now from two without bonds:
The fruitage of their minds proclivity.
An impasse faced these two with reddened locks;
With writ their snorts were silenced, slightingly.
With fight and courage mustered up, those blocks
Were blasted from the rooftops, smilingly.
True patrons pledging payment in advance
Would stem all tides of thought t'wards loss contrite.
A stage of grand import and tasked finance,
shall from reality provide respite.
A man named Ace with Rooter by his side
Shalt ne'er us fail lest we his skills deride.

Scott downs it, then throws a big fit,
There're no more bottles of beer on the wall...

nockgeneer reacted to mrtnkl in EGA version of the SpaceVenture prototype domeHey all,
It's been a while since I visited these forums. Years actually: back when I was coding a virtual sierra-related chatroom in 2003 or 2004. Didn't even remember my login credentials so the sign-in-with-twitter was a nice welcoming :D
Just for the fun of sharing, I was wondering if any of you SQ fans saw the EGA pics we made for laughs during the kickstarter?
We thought they'd make a good sq4-ish joke where the KS 2012 dome was in fact a remake of an old 1986 Sierra game - with time and space all getting mixed up and such.
Fun fact: Mark loved them but was afraid it would scare away new potential backers as it could make them think this was the new game they were backing ;-)
We posted these in the KS comments back when they were in high-rotation mode during the final days of the campaign (10 updates a second? What was it? ;)) so it probably got lost forever in the gap between everyone's page-refreshes.
So I thought reposting them here would hopefully be apprecated.
Cheers from a true sq-fan,
- Martin

nockgeneer reacted to Intendant S in Steam Greenlight AnnouncedSteam just announced its Greenlight service, scheduled to launch at the end of August. As it currently stands, all games that have been submitted to Steam goes through an internal process of review. With Greenlight, users can have a say in what gets published on their digital distribution platform. I think that it would be a great way to get SpaceVenture some attention by having the Two Guys submit this project for review. I know that I'd do my best to get it upvoted.

Now there's an introduction, if I ever saw one!
There once was a robot named Rooter
serving Ace as both friend and computer.
She could upgrade herself,
with spare parts off the shelf;
there was merely a need to reboot her.

Promises not yet fulfilled.
Could there be some writer's block?
Or maybe Roger had them killed.
After all, it was their turn.

There once were some fans way fanatical
who considered a snout emblematical
so with never a doubt,
they donned snouts to go out,
and expected some feedback ecstatical

nockgeneer reacted to Capn_Ascii in Roger Wilco as an idiotBoth of these views are true. :) Roger is definitely an accidental hero by nature - with a downright uncanny knack for finding himself knee-deep in danger time and again - but at the same time, there have been numerous occasions when he *had* the opportunity to escape, but chose not to. To wit:
SQ1: Roger escapes from Kerona with the current coordinates of the Deltaur in hand. Logically, most people would probably have made straight for the nearest Starcon facility and called in the authorities. Roger, however, in an unusual burst of insight, realizes that the Sariens could move at any time and that taking the time to find help might let them get away. Instead, he goes after them himself. This instance is particularly notable in that it's A> the first time Roger ever actually takes heroic action of his own accord, and B> his lack of hero experience at this early stage makes this more or less a suicide mission.
SQ3: Roger confronts a bunch of dangerous software pirates to rescue a pair of software designers he's never even met, and has no real reason to care about. Possibly justified in that there doen't seem to be any authorities in the backwater corner of the galaxy he's currently puttering around in, but still, he's risking his neck for a couple of strangers.
SQ5: Roger enrolls in Starcon Academy with the express purpose of becoming a starship captain. This says a lot about how his disposition towards heroism has advanced over the years; he's now actively seeking out the chance to make the step up from "shmuck" to "hero" (though admittedly, he's probably doing it more for the career upgrade and the respect than a desire to get himself into danger).
SQ6: Roger once again sticks his neck out to save someone, this time a close personal friend. :) This one in particular really hits home with me, because it shows how far he's willing to go to help someone he genuinely cares about, as opposed to just "the galaxy" or random programmer weirdos.
Incinerations: I won't go into details on this one just in case some of you haven't finished the game yet (hmm, this board needs a 'spoiler' tag to black out text), but those of you who have know exactly what moment I'm talking about. The moment, near the end of the game, where after years of being something of a cowardly lion, a personal crisis and a pep talk from a friend give Roger the epiphany that finally pushes him from semi-reluctant protagonist to Big Damn Hero. Cue the single most awesome endgame chapter in adventure game history, where our hero shows us the sheer amount of ass he can kick when properly motivated. :D
Point being, Roger is (or was) definitely not 'into' the hero business at first - but I think the games do a good job of showing that the spark of heroism was there to begin with, and over time it evolved him into something more than just Joe Blow in the wrong place at the wrong time. ;)
