Damn, that is affordable. Makes me think of all kind of nasty things I'd do with that 19 inch.

Yeah, they did do that. Sierra's art team was talented, even their last AGI games look incredibly polsihed in comparision to first King's Quest.

If you want you can use this. I started doing this on this weekend and I've been thinking of re-creating the whole original SQ3 intro.

SQ IV is my favourite. It's a perfect marriage of stunning art, music, atmosphere, great jokes, good plot and pretty good puzzles to boot.

You can actually change that in ScummVM. To make the screen relative instead of touchpad you need to check in the adlib box in the settings. It's oddly hidden, but it works well.

This was a good update, and for the future, I'd hope the updates would be like this as well. It was honest and re-assuring that the project is handeled like it should, despite they have ran over schedule. The big things they've done are technical and not that sexy subjects for updates, so I do understand why the previous updates have been a bit bony, but now that the framework has been done, I hope updates of this quality to continue. And more love to SVrewards as well :)

    Ok, here's the thing...

Paul seems like a first-rate dick. I could never imagine working under him, nor would I ever want to. Paul deserves all the bashing he is getting, and I'm happy to join in. He seems like an underhanded snake the way he has anonymously trolled (allegedly!) other projects to hurt them. I would gladly campaign to keep him from having involvement in the next Larry adventure.

Yes, bash Paul. But I would just hate the bashing to target the game itself.

Ok, and here is where I say some things that some people might not like, but I'm going to say it. Yes, Paul went way overboard in (allegedly) banning and deleting people's posts. He seems like a petty tyrant and a troll and a child. I was one of those people who got banned. But here's the thing... Paul isn't the only one who had ever allegedly gotten heavy handed or threatened forum banning over repeated critical comments of design choices (which were ironically deemed, by people now wanting nothing to do with Paul, "relentless attacks on Paul."). But all that is over and done with. Not everyone moderating the Replay forum was always an angel, and I don't think dramatically playing a martyr for too long is necessary.

Moving forward, I would say that it's great people are supportive of the Two Guys and want to cut them slack over possible problems, but I hope there isn't too much "circling of the wagons" to any criticism that might come up to the point of trying cast out those who express even the same concerns Paul has. I know that people like Tomint and Frogacuda have on various forums expressed legitimate concerns about the progress of SV, and I think we should remember that it's ok to air those honest concerns and that it doesn't mean they are "attacking" or any less of a fan.

That's the big question, is LSL:R a success or not? There's some conflicting info about it. Reportedly the game cost over 1 million to make, of which most came from KS and of the pot Codemaster get their cut as well, though how much, I don't know.

Some time ago Frogacuda said in the Adventuregamers forum that Trowe had said something about 250k sold units, but that was ages ago and I don't think there's any concrete proof about that. We only have estimations, but then again I think LSL:R did sell better on the recent Steam sale, as it was for a bit in the top 50 sellers. At Google Play store LSL:R has been installed 10 000-50 000 times, but that figure doesn't tell how many have actually purchaced it after trying it out and LSLR isn't that high in the GOG listings either when games are listed in order of sales.

All things considered I do think the game has made profit, but I don't think it has been the blockbuster Trowe or Al hoped it would have been. It might have been profitable enough to warrant the freemium casino game though just to keep the potential franchice in the public eye.

I do agree, carpet bombing a company with lots of mail is not a best approach with this. Perhaps a well written and articulated petition etc. would be the best way to handle this matter.

I agree with the idea for a petition. Our mails to Codemasters would probably have been dismissed anyway as a handful of fans venting their anger over getting thrown out of a forum. They probably get mails like that all the time. A petition would give us the opportunity to truly stand together in this, make people realise who was involved, why this is such a great deal and get noticed.

Paul comes across immature in his writing and sometimes a mix between exhausted and rambling on camera. He has an unfortunate willingness to engage in personal, public squabbles and his social media behavior has all the tact and diplomacy of a sledgehammer. Basically, he comes across as the opposite of "professional" or "adult." This doesn't inspire confidence in his company or products.

I don't say this to bash him. I just wish he would have recognized that his being so public as the face of the company would not be good for the game. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and PR work is definitely not his strength. Why did he have to post cringe-worthy video updates like, "Paul Trowe tells all"? It was as if he wanted to increase his own "star" and get attention for himself. Some of his whining updates on Kickstarter, in which he begged people not to hate him and in which he took forever getting to the point, were often painful to read.

When Josh Mandel took over the updates, the campaign instantly took on a more professional tone. Mandel also graciously engaged with people on the forums in very frank but worthwhile conversations. It was clear that Mandel was incredibly devoted and passionate about the project, but he never lost his professionalism. Mandel deserves a lot of credit for cleaning up the earlier messy impression created by Paul. Paul should have stayed in the background and focused on whatever it is he excels at.

I just hope people realize how hard Mandel worked on this project.

I also wonder if Al didn't assert himself enough or ever contradict Paul. Paul seems to have a very strong personality, while Al (whom I don't know personally) seems more easy-going. Perhaps Paul got his way on pretty much everything, instead of deferring to the creative talent like Josh and Al. What good would being a "Chief Creative Officer" do if the CEO is micromanaging everything?

One thing that's certain is that Josh Mandel is a proven unique and immense creative talent. I have confidence that we have not seen the last of his work.

Most of you probably know, but in case you don't: It was originally Replay's intention to remake all the old Larry games. That's six remakes in a row we're talking about, with the possibility of a new Larry game being released afterwards.

What this boils down to is that the cool-sounding name of Chief Creative Officer most likely would have reduced Josh to nothing more than an assembly line worker, cranking out remake after remake, possibly for the next decade or so. It always horrified me beyond belief that from survey results on the Replay forum, most people seemed to be okay with letting all that creative genius go to waste instead of letting the man create something new and exciting from the ground up.

No matter what his current situation is, he has earned nothing but the greatest respect from the Sierra fanbase in general and the (former) Replay community in particular and he certainly deserves better than to have his talents squandered on endless remakes.

First thing, I do have my own concerns about SV, and if you've seen my post elsewhere you might know what they mostly are.

But, I do think what, and how, Trowe has commented SV current progress is very unprofessional and out of the line. You could even say it sounds spiteful. I can't honestly say I know why he comments the way he does, I've never met the guy nor communicated with him directly, so I really don't know that much about him. Perhaps there is some amount of jealousy in him. He, from the posts and interviews I've read, seemed to think he was a sort of a herald of "Sierra's new coming", which was IMO a baseless claim as he only had rights to one series and everyone else was doing their own thing. Maybe it even is that because Larry Reloaded, and now I did like the game myself so nothing agains it, hasn't really been setting the world in fire in terms of sales Trowe is desperate in trying to find something worthwhile to latch on to.

I don't know what other projects Replay has going on at the moment, but from the looks of it Larry is at the moment their only big name and even that may go under. If Reloaded doesn't sell, the series won't continue. And at the moment it looks like Replay is desperately trying to make Larry relevant again with, of all things, freemium Larry poker game. Getting his hands on SV would be a continuation plan.

Shame to hear that. I wonder if there's any of the old guard left anymore.

Replay's forum has turned into a ghost town. I checked out a couple of previously lenghty threads, which have been dwarfed into a incoherent mess of couple of messages. A lot of good discussion about the LSL series has been gone down the drain, which is damn shame. Now the most active posters there seem to be genuine trolls PT accused the banned people of being. You get what you order, I guess.

LSL2 was the remake I was hoping to see as well. It such a broken game, that a new design approach could have worked miracles on it and Al could have even fleshen out the story even further.

It's a good thing IMO, that Activision is willing to test the waters of their old Sierra IP's. They've been sitting on them for so long now without doing anything, so this might be a good opener to finally start seeing the other IP's revived as well. And I do like GK series.

The person who wrote the following also posts here and is fair and respected:
    http://mixnmojo.com/news/Is-Paul-Trowe-of-Replay-Sabotaging-Other-Kickstarters

Just a thought. Maybe the Mandel story can be confirmed?

But, yeah, I also had the impression that Al was passing the torch to Mandel. I've always thought Mandel is a great talent who had given so much creative content for Sierra games but who never got the top billing he deserved. It finally seemed like he was about to emerge as the "star" designer of some upcoming Replay adventure games. Regardless, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more from him.

Anyway, put me down as another one who supports and has faith in the Two Guys. I feel like this Trowe idiocy has reinvigorated my support for them! If a completed SpaceVenture will piss off Trowe, then it must happen! :-)
