tomimt got a reaction from Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI guess PT still lives in a world where only bad publicity is no publicity at all. That really doesn't work anymore, as I can think of a couple of KS projects that either failed because of the public image of the creators or that have destroyed the public image of a creator at least in they eyes of people that backed.
People all around are stuffing their faces with popcorn, the show is on.

tomimt reacted to shoptroll in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI saw this on UMBCast's Twitter feed and wanted to chime in as a show of support for Serena, et. al. You all made the right choice to stand up to Paul who was acting like a bully.
While I think Paul's entitled to his opinion, the way he's acted since that post has been pretty shameful. To quote a certain movie, "You're not wrong Walter, you're just an asshole".
I don't know anything about the office politics around Sierra back in the day, but I have a really hard time believing that Ken Williams would let this level of animosity erupt between project teams. And, most importantly, he certainly wouldn't go about pissing off the company's most loyal fans in such a manner, based on what he's said on SierraGamers.
Paul seriously needs to get over the fact that Replay isn't Sierra 2.0 and that Larry Reloaded and Fester Mudd aren't selling as well as they hoped. I'm also dismayed that Josh supposedly left. I was looking forward to seeing a Larry 2 remake (which it could tremendously benefit from) but between Paul's behavior and Al's co-writer/Replay's Chief Creative Officer likely gone what enthusiasm I had left for that possible project is gone. Al and Larry deserve better than that.
I'm sure SpaceVenture is going to turn out fine despite what Paul thinks. Yes, the communication hasn't been the greatest, but I think the team will get eventually something out the door even if they have to scale the project back some. I'm patient and I know they're not working with an established development team (like N-Fusion) so there's going to be some turbulence in the process.
Anyways, that's my 2 cents.... er buckazoids?

tomimt got a reaction from BigD in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI wonder if Trowe really understands how much damage he's doing to not only his own reputation but the reputation of his company name as well. Josh did, indeed, fix up the previous PR disaster very nicely, but if he's not there to keep things in check I guess we won't be seeing that much of Replay in the future. I think he doesn't fully understand that he's a head of his company and as such everything he says or does reflects back on it as well. A sad thing indeed.

tomimt got a reaction from Tom King in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateLast week I was thinking of I could be willing to back possible LSLR2 remake if Replay would ever suggest it. Now, after all this, I must say that if a second Larry KS would ever emerge, I'd steer away from it with Paul Trowe in the handle. He has lost all credibility in my eyes.

tomimt reacted to PurpleTentacle in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI backed SpaceVenture, though haven't been following things too closely. I also backed LSL:R and have participated in their forum, so I am familiar with Serena's contributions and the other regular posters there.
After some people posted that Paul Trowe has acted in an embarrassing way that reflects poorly on the company, it appears they were banned. Don't really know how it all went down, though. All of Serena's and the other banned people's posts over months and months were deleted just like that, apparently. Serena and these people did not deserve that.
That Paul Trowe (I'm assuming he did it) would seemingly just ban dedicated fans like that just seems very low and tells me a lot about the guy.
I don't understand why anyone would want to work with him. Why is Al sticking with him? Maybe Al has no other choice?
It seems Paul Trowe is very insecure. He has to go on another Kickstarter, trash others' work and brag to make himself feel better?
I came on to say two things:
First, Serena, I think you're probably better off not even having to deal with people like Paul Trowe, who is a very negative force in the adventure game community.
And, second, I am confident the SV/SQ fan community will continue to strongly support the Two Guys, despite Paul Trowe's apparent efforts to hurt the project's image.

tomimt reacted to Intendant S in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateSo it appears speaking your mind gets punished by being kicked out of the club. Not only have I been asked to leave the team because I wouldn't take back what I've said here but I've been locked out of the Replay forums completely. I can't even read what's posted. All the time and effort I've put forth to help Larry get released was rewarded with a great big "Fuck you!" Thanks for showing your true colors, Paul. If you're still monitoring this thread then I want you to know I'm not supporting any future Larry games as long as you're at the helm.

tomimt reacted to Johnathon in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updatePlease take what I have to say below with a grain of salt, as it is only my immediate sense on the matter. Nonetheless, given that I probably don't have as much know-how or background information as some of you guys do on Trowe, given what I did witness him saying here on this board months ago, and what he's just posted now on the update, here is what I honestly think; clear-cut, and non-sugar-coated. I could be wrong on some points or even on all, but anyhow:
If you ask me, Paul does believe in the project, and he does not believe that it is going to fail, and that is why he is behaving the way that he is. He is jealous of the Two Guys. He is jealous of the uniqueness and quality of the product they're producing, in comparison to his own resevoir of accomplishments at replay, and he is threatened by the idea of the project being finished and being successful.
I also believe that some of the influence to his sour behavior roots back to some bad blood between him and Mr. Scott Murphy, and the possibility that Paul, in some twisted sense, feels that Scott owes him something, because, unfortunately, Mr. Trowe doesn't seem to possess a true understanding of the concept of "charity" towards a friend. He seems, for example, to hold the unfortunate misconception that charity by definition means to help someone who is desperately in need so that you can grow him/her as a plant later on, only to cash in for your "friendly deed," because that is the easiest and most personally beneficial application of the virtue. (See Paul's attitude here)
And, I also believe that holding the position of CEO of a company implies it's own unique stresses.
And I think, as others have mentioned already, that he is also jealous of Chris Pope.
And... most notably... I believe that the more he continues, as he has been, the better he's going to make SpaceVenture look, and possibly the worse his own company. I take no pleasure in the irony of it for his company's detriment, but I must say, if it helps the Two Guys...
...not that they need it, Paul, not that they need it.
Again, I could be wrong, but this is what I've taken away from what I've seen over the past year. You guys tell me if I'm making any careless judgements here.

tomimt reacted to Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateIn my view, there would have to be a lot more than bipolar disorder going on. Granted, I haven't had the "pleasure" of dealing with the man himself, but I am privy to a certain amount of inside information that I've pretty much sworn I'll never share. Suffice to say, Paul Trowe is anything but your average Joe.
I don't personally mind that he doesn't believe in the project. He's not the first and he probably won't be the last. That's part of the package when it comes to crowdfunding, and even to adventure games. But he's been exploiting his professional status to privately harass Scott and Mark (especially the former), to deliberately delay the project and to discredit Chris Pope. There's documentation for every claim I've made here available. Some of it widely; I find it important to note that there are no baseless accusations in this thread.
I may come across as outrageously unsympathic here, but I don't even care much if he's suffering from mental disorders. If he is, I'm sorry for him, of course, and I hope he eventually seeks treatment, but a mental disorder is just not a licence to be as much an asshole as he has been since this campaign kicked off. There's just no excuse.
The funniest, and most tragic, thing in all of this is that he seems to really expect that Scott and Mark will jump ship and join Replay. It's just so obvious that he's aiming for that to happen. Is he really that delusional? At this point, it's a no-win scenario for him. Even if he was to step in and replace Chris Pope, his reputation would forever be in ruins among us "Space Quest" fans, and some of us might even choose to end our support for the project if this was to happen. I love Scott and Mark dearly, but I would personally pretty much be done with this, were it helmed by Paul Trowe. Just as I wholeheartedly support Al and Josh returning to the industry, but wouldn't dream of throwing money after the Replay LSL games.
And yes, Brandon is very right that this discussion is happening publicly. In my view, there's nothing harmful about that. Paul Trowe presumably knows that what he's doing is not okay by any definition, so we may as well talk about it. There's the old saying that "silence gives consent" and while I don't want to play as dirty as Paul clearly does, he sure as hell isn't going to catch me accepting this kind of behaviour either.

tomimt got a reaction from Fronzel Neekburm in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateFirst thing, I do have my own concerns about SV, and if you've seen my post elsewhere you might know what they mostly are.
But, I do think what, and how, Trowe has commented SV current progress is very unprofessional and out of the line. You could even say it sounds spiteful. I can't honestly say I know why he comments the way he does, I've never met the guy nor communicated with him directly, so I really don't know that much about him. Perhaps there is some amount of jealousy in him. He, from the posts and interviews I've read, seemed to think he was a sort of a herald of "Sierra's new coming", which was IMO a baseless claim as he only had rights to one series and everyone else was doing their own thing. Maybe it even is that because Larry Reloaded, and now I did like the game myself so nothing agains it, hasn't really been setting the world in fire in terms of sales Trowe is desperate in trying to find something worthwhile to latch on to.
I don't know what other projects Replay has going on at the moment, but from the looks of it Larry is at the moment their only big name and even that may go under. If Reloaded doesn't sell, the series won't continue. And at the moment it looks like Replay is desperately trying to make Larry relevant again with, of all things, freemium Larry poker game. Getting his hands on SV would be a continuation plan.

tomimt got a reaction from Troels Pleimert in Space Quest on AndroidDon't know if anyone's interested about this anymone, but I recently purchased highly tweaked version of DosBox called DosBox Turbo for my Android tablet and I have to say it's thus far tthe best Android port of Dosbox out there. You can use absolute mouse positioning, though still experimental, on it, which makes playing point and click games pretty fun. I even managed to get Gabriel Knight working on it.
In comparision to other Dosbox ports for Android Turbo works very fast. Here's a Youtube video showing speed difference between different ports using Doom:
It's still not as easy to set up as ScummVM, so be prepared to tweaking autoexec files manually. It's a hassle, but it you've been looking for acutally working, good port of DosBox, then Turbo is pretty much the best choice.

And I agree with MusicallyInspired. I don't care for TSL either, thought I was enthustiastic about it when it was announced the first time. They did drop the ball with the game IMO. But they do have my respect for pulling it off, considering all the hassle they had to go through.
