A recording would definitely be best, if you're up for it. I have this idea that people get sick of hearing me talking after a while. ;)

That is a subjective view. The QfG series has a very loyal following, perhaps in part because the character that you build can be imported from one game into the next. It provides for a continuity that goes beyond the other series that keep the same protagonists. It also successfully combines elements of an RPG with an adventure game, with the emphasis on the Adventure parts.

The KQ games also have a fair following with KQ6 generally considered by many as one of the all time best adventure games. This is probably in large part because of Jane Jensen's influence, which brings up her signature series, GK, which also has a very loyal following.

I'll leave it to the LSL fans to say why they love that series.

The remaining series have their following, but not on the scale as the previous ones.

Edit: This could be a fairly large in itself, so it may be best to split it off into its own thread.

If you want you can use this. I started doing this on this weekend and I've been thinking of re-creating the whole original SQ3 intro.

I played VSB last year and I LOVE IT! I love everything from the start to the end. I love the fact that it follows the atmosphere of the rest of the series and the fact that the puzzles were challenging, but not too much, just enough to keep the interest in the game. Also, I never figured out what to do with the shard! At this point, I think there is nothing to do with it. Throughout the game, I also learned three things. One : you can be "hair-phobia". Two : robots don't like bad weather. Three : Never use a piece of glass as a laser reflector, kids. It only works in the movies. ;)

Just sent mine in. Man, I'm glad I don't do vlogs. Took me a dozen tries to stumble through one sendable video where I don't garble my words. Actually, I envy anyone who can talk into a camera for an hour (or even a minute) and still be coherent.

I don't really want to point out what I did because I'll feel like I'm bragging. Heck, I don't even know what counts as "helping". I've probably done nothing

    - During the SpaceVenture kickstarter I made a kickstarter tracker program to save at least two people's F5 keys :P
    - I made a comic about selling my house.
    - Yeah... not a whole lot.

I'm mostly just a super enthousiastic lurker who would love to be involved with more things in the fan community but due to excessive introversion am too scared of working with other people.

Throw in nude artwork of the Latex Babes and I'll give ya 15 buckazoids. Hope you don't mind that I found them all inside a wallet on a snowman on some icy planet called Radon.

I would pay that price for SQ3 to be redone, although I doubt there will be enough people like me, however.

Sure - we actually have a LOT of content, whoa. We actually programmed almost all of the garbage scow area - I have demos of that. Like MI said, it was SUPPOSED to be the secret hidden full point ending for SQ2. To be able to play that first area of SQ3.

SQ3 is one of my favorite games of all time, let alone one of my favorite ADVENTURE games. We planned on doing some great stuff, but always staying faithful to the original game, which is perfect, really.

This was a test/concept background for the Garbage Freighter - we never got around to doing it. Most of our original work were paintovers of the original artwork, which I have SUCH an attachement to. We were experimenting with this style when we decided to cancel the project.

Ok, I'm going to make a executive decision here and stop this before it goes any further. I think Paul has dug enough of his own grave. I don't believe this needs to go any further and I'm sure many of you agree with me. I don't want this place turning into Paul Trowe bashing central and I don't want this to be the place where worse news potentially breaks. I moreso like the higher road we've taken thus far and don't want to start resorting to slander. Mostly because its unnecessary. So I'm deleting posts associated with....that. Let's keep this in good form, guys. No hard feelings and nothing personal, I just don't think this forum needs THAT kind of attention. Please don't bring *that* topic up again here. If you want to talk about it please find somewhere else to do so. I don't feel right about this place being the place that people.....discover things. Especially seeing as this doubles (for the moment) as the Two Guys' official forum for SpaceVenture and their company.

pcj reacted to Troels Pleimert in Roger Wilco as an idiot
How did this topic suddenly escape my attention? Just when it was starting to get interesting. ;)

Because when Daniel Stacey and Fred Olsen visited me this summer, we had a long and somewhat tipsy discussion on whether or not Roger is actually a hero. And it turns out that this character trait of Roger Wilco has never been properly defined. I've had some chats with Scott Murphy about what kind of guy Roger is, and we're really in agreement that Roger wasn't supposed to be the "oh, I'll go save the galaxy, then" type of guy. He just wanted to crawl back into his broomcloset and get back to that nap he was having. In fact, you could argue that Roger has an anti-heroic stance throughout the entire series, we found out, but only IF ... (cue dramatic timpani roll)

... ONLY IF the above isn't true. You could argue that Roger blasts off in a fit of sudden heroism to defeat the Sariens before they can destroy the Earnon sun. You could also argue, however, that Roger has no choice than to go because he literally has no choice. It's do or die. Those are the only coordinates he has.

It actually all hinges on one question: is Kerona anywhere near Xenon? If Roger's "in the neighborhood," so to speak, he'd probably have gone straight to Xenon, called the authorities, then gone to bed. But he seems completely and utterly lost, so he's only got that one set of coordinates.

Also, once you get to the Deltaur, the game actually asks you if you really want to proceed. If you say no, you die, because the Sariens managed to destroy the galaxy before you could get back to alert the authorities. Meaning going back to Xenon, even if it was in the vicinity, wasn't an option. Because you are literally the only thing between the Sariens and your own death.

When Roger gets back, he's suddenly hailed as a hero, even to his own surprise. Following a whirlwind of celebrity stardom that he doesn't appear fit to handle (see the SQ2 comic), he's assigned to Xenon Orbital Station IV and forgotten about. From then on, he's kidnapped and never heard from again until SQ5 begins.

So every Space Quest up until SQ5 could be viewed as Roger's egotistical journey to just get the hell back home and finish that nap he was having, and all these saving-the-galaxy gigs just keep getting in his way. At least, that's how I like it. ;)

And that's why SQ5 and SQ6 feel so disjointed to me, because Roger actually exhibits real heroic behavior in these, and in my personal preference that's out of character for him.

I'd agree with you, were it not for the fact that this bunch of people you mentioned pumped - literally! - thousands of dollars into the game, worked as moderators for Replay and did all sorts of free labor (artworks, beta testing and such). All that rewarded with a great big "Fuck you!", just because they dared to point out that someone is making a complete ass of himself. (Bear in mind that I consider myself mostly a neural party in this. Yes, I was also thrown out of the forum - presumably because I posted an animated gif of a guy munching on a bag of popcorn (!) - but I was nowhere near as involved in either the forums or the actual game as most of the other banned parties were.) Imagine if you had been the one who basically had given a year of his life to the project. Wouldn't you agree that this goes quite a bit beyond bruised egos and delves into the realm of, shall we say, exploitation?

    That and, you know,...

    - threatening Wisecrack with a lawsuit even though they had Al's permission
    - causing a shitstorm obout this in the gaming press, claiming that it was Al who wants to sue
    - impersonating Josh in one of the updates
    - attempting to sabotage other people's kickstarters
    - revealing rather intimate details about Scott Murphy's private life in this very forum in some desperate attempt to make himself look good
    - leaking other companies' delicate information to the press
    - the numerous instances of cyber-bullying

and so on and so forth. I agree about the inappropriate and rude part, though.

As for news about these recent developments hitting the Steam forums: Since it was the community who is basically responsible for getting this game on Steam in the first place (via the greenlighting process), I'd call it a classic case of poetic justice. Still, I had hoped that this would happen in a somewhat more refined and articulate way. People deserve to know what's going on, but I'm afraid just pasting a link to these forums might do more harm than good. But it looks like it's been removed anyway.

Sorry for not letting this topic rest (as I had promised earlier), but like I said a few pages ago: people ought to know why this is a big deal.

pcj reacted to Datadog in Do you think SQ would have followed continuity?
Roger's future was always vague and easy to interpret in many ways. You could deviate from said future to put a twist on an old story, or you could just continue the series without ever exploring that far into the future. "Futurama" explored the future of Fry and Leela's relationship in several different ways without ever technically breaking continuity. So likewise, when you're dealing with science-fiction, parallel universes, and the seventh dimension, Space Quest could have ended up anywhere.

Or, in Doctor terms, people assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

I haven't chatted with Josh in a while, but he has definitely left Replay Games. His LinkedIn profile lists him as "formerly" Chief Creative Office at Replay for one year from July 2012 until June 2013. So Josh left Replay 3 or 4 months ago.

Since Josh is no longer using Facebook, I am not going to bother him about this; he values his privacy. I'm sure he had good reasons for leaving. He is probably spending time with his family, getting away from it all, and possibly working on a new project on his own. That's all pure speculation on my part.

Oh, just for the fun of it (and because she deserves it), I gave Serena a shout-out in my latest Hero-U update - http://www.kickstart...on/posts/628169. She has been a great proponent of indie Kickstarter adventure games. I caught her by surprise. :-)

Incidentally, I supported LSL: Reloaded mostly because Adventure Mob did the prototype. Lori and I designed part of an Adventure Mob game in late 2011, so we wanted to support them. Shortly after the Kickstarter, they were thrown under the bus. However, as I understand it, Al and Josh were in on that decision and had good reasons for it. The game would undoubtedly have been different if developed by Adventure Mob rather than N-Fusion. It's impossible to say whether it would have taken longer or less time, and whether it would have been a better or worse game. N-Fusion (and by reflection, Replay Games) are to be congratulated in actually shipping a quality adventure game.

I just hope it's all a big misunderstanding. Best of luck to you on LSL and any other games you work on.

*Absolutely, if anything said above is untrue then by all means please forgive us. But this is a public forum, nobody should post here with the intent to go behind someone's back, and most of the statements made seem to be based on posts you made on Facebook, which if you wanted to keep private, probably wasn't the best place for it. Perhaps all of the statements being made in this thread are wrong - but you're still not handling it very graciously, which in turns leads to people still not thinking highly of you, etc - just saying.
