pcj reacted to Troels Pleimert in Video commentaries on fan gamesThat's awesome, guys! Really happy you're on board with the idea. :)
I see what Chris is saying about VSB. And I realize there will be quite the overlap between the VSB and Incinerations commentaries. You can fight amongst yourselves who wants to show up for which commentary -- I'm all for the relaxed atmosphere; meaning, for instance, Blackthorne could sit in on the Incinerations commentary if he wanted to, just as long as we remember what game is in focus. ;)
As for the nitty-gritty: Really, the idea came from me just wanting to play these games again. So I'm thinking, I'll be hosting the Hangout and playing the actual games (start to finish), but it's really you guys I want to hear from. So I won't be mouthing off all the time, like I usually do in Hangouts. Actually, it's kind of like a "commentary /slash/ guide the idiot through my game" situation :) which will give you plenty of opportunity to comment. And also the trick is to get me through the game in 4 hours or less (which is the limit on the YouTube stream).
Hope that all sounds good to you. As for when, well ... here's my dream playlist. Depending on what weekend the VSB guys are free, we can sort of figure out when the rest of you need to think about clearing schedules. ;)
1. Vohaul Strikes Back
2. Space Quest: Incinerations
3. Space Quest II VGA
4. Pledge Quest I & II
(I'm thinking the Pledge Quest games are just the right ones to finish off on. Looking forward to the future and all that. Plus, maybe we can get The Pope to show up for it.)

pcj reacted to Johnathon in Rare SQ PC motherboard opportunity...Alright, so... I gather some may be wondering as to why I'm bothering to post this, considering that we have DOSBox; but some of us perfer not to deal with minor glitches that come along with DOSBox, or may be severe hardcore retro gamers who want to play some of the games that DOSBox is not compatible with.
Or, some of you just may be serious 486 nerds like myself, so...
I thought I'd point you to a rare find:
You can buy Baby AT 486 motherboard (the ESA TF-486) from this website, newly designed by ESA to industrial standards, for $200.00. It has very nice expansion ability, the rare ability to use PS/2 keyboard and mouse with a 486, from the looks of it it meets all the standards necessary to easily build a custom SQ PC refering to Frans' article, and this board will probably last you forever. Retro Motherboards are literally the most difficult component to find at a good price and working condition these days (oftetimes getting ripped by bad sellers on eBay because they're availability has gone down and their price up.)
ESA would normally require a higher fee, as far as I know, to have them build you a new 486 motherboard, by calling them and getting a quote, but it seems they have produced extra of these for a particular client who didn't need them all, and so now the extras are being sold at this website.
Peripherals to go with a system based on this board could also easily be purchased from this other site. Memory, I recommend getting from S.A.Tech, as I've used them several times already.
And... here would be the manual for the motherboard.
Happy Building, for those of you geeks like me! :D

pcj reacted to Cosmic Castaway in FanArt OrderI'd like to see a picture of Roger Wilco laughing J. Jonah Jameson-style at this thread. Barring that, Space Quest Gangnam Style.

pcj reacted to JDHJANUS in Introduce Yourself!Hey everyone! I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Josh, and some of you may know me from Twitter (@JDHJANUS). I've also been posting on the Sierra Planet boards (formerly the Sierra Nebula boards) for years now, and have been a Space Quest fan since I watched my mom and sister play the first 4 SQ games in 1990-1991. I look forward to being a part of the community, and will make an effort to stay active. Glad to be a part of one of the most awesome fandoms in Sierra history!
Talk to you later!

pcj reacted to GuyfromAndromeda in Introduce Yourself!Hi all! My name is Jonny, and I'm from a small town in Sweden called Ljungby. I have been here before with the alias Hiddenite, but now I'm here through my twitter account @GuyfrAndromeda.
I'm a 30+ gamer, plays almost anything but good old dos/pc games and particularly Sierra games are my favourite. Space Quest was amongst the first games I tried on computer and they're the first games to be installed on any computer I have. Besides just playing games I occasionally upload game videos to Youtube, mostly connected to my beloved MT-32. GuyFromAndromeda is my alias there if you'd like to see.
I'd be happy for any kind of contact, either here or on twitter. I'm on my own irl with my passion for old adventure games and Sierra so the chance to talk to you all is greatly appreciated.
Well, that's me very shortly. Looking forward to hear from you :)

I agree. Forums should have "like" buttons. Add it to the new Broomcloset! :)

Mark Crowe just tweeted:
I knew that The Two Guys had been in contact with Gary Owens' agent, but nothing was finalized yet. Apparently, things are more solid now. Honestly, can you imagine anyone else narrating the Spaceventure? :)

pcj reacted to James from Andromeda in SpaceVenture prototype / Cluck Y'egger composer's NEW KICKSTARTERHey kids!
James Mulvale here, I wrote the score for Quest for Infamy, the Cluck Y'egger game, SpaceVenture prototypes and a bunch of other stuff...I am NOW writing an album of both orchestral and organic-sound musical compositions that are recorded in true 3D audio meaning you will hear things coming from in-front and behind your head, above and below it... Not just left and right. My music will sample nature as well as human and household sounds and I intend to make my listeners feel like they are a million light years away. Please spread the word and if you think this is a pretty cool idea (it's definitely an unusual experience) then throw a few dollars in this direction and you'll be in for a treat!
KICKSTARTER PAGE
and here's another 3D audio tune made entirely from DUCK TAPE... Headphones Necessary for 3D!!

pcj reacted to Frede in The 2012 AGS AwardsIt's odd that there are so many members who believe that it doesn't change anything whether a game is freeware or commercial, and thus they're against splitting up the awards.
I think quite a few of us agree SQInc was snubbed merely because Resonance is commercial. And it's not just one fluke. I still wonder how the hell Gemini Rue could snatch up Best Background Art ahead of VSB.
I'm not getting a big head here, but in that thread, the AGS forum members are talking about the "objective quality" of game components. Do they not realise that Marty's background art could be argued to be objectively better because that of Gemini Rue largely looks like it does to cater to nostalgia?
'Least that's my verdict. If you can come up with any reason for making a 320x200 pixel art game that doesn't include the word "nostalgia", I'd like to hear it.

pcj got a reaction from Frede in Space Quest 4.5Went ahead and gave my copy of the game a quick virus scan and uploaded it to SQN.
You're welcome. Don't blame me when you try to play SQIV.5 and realize the error of your ways.

pcj reacted to Datadog in The 2012 AGS AwardsUntil the awards happened, I wasn't actually aware of Resonance's following, or how detached I was from the rest of the community. It's hard not to take a clean sweep personally when one of presenters doesn't even bother looking up my real name. And then I get bitter and eat some chocolate and kick myself in the face for being a terrible self-promoter and even worse team leader who really needs a hug. This is what I get for shutting myself away for six years trying to hide from C&D letters.
At least you guys enjoyed the game! It was meant for you, after all. You guys are awesome. But on the whole, I'm going to re-evaluate my approach to any future projects. That awards thing was rougher on me than the whole of SQInc's production put together. Explosions and robots alone do not spread word-of-mouth no matter what Michael Bay has taught me. Maybe I should go back to making Klik 'n Play games.
On the bright side, I'm grateful I wasn't the one who had to awkwardly give an acceptance speech every few minutes. I did not envy Vince for that.

pcj got a reaction from Datadog in The 2012 AGS AwardsAh, man, I didn't make it but I was really pulling for Doomtron (namely because he wasn't going up against Resonance)...
The results for anyone who's interested.

pcj reacted to Collector in Space Quest 4.5Warning!! The link on that page takes you to a "download service" That not only makes you wait to jump through hoops to get to the "download", what you get is not the game, but a downloader disguised as a RAR that installs a browser toolbar and hijacks the home page. I killed the app before it completed what it was doing, but I am doing a full scan right now to see if I missed anything.

pcj reacted to Troels Pleimert in Space Quest Historian: SQ7.orgHey, guys. Happy Easter. It's Space Quest Historian time. Yes, with a new intro lovingly rendered by the always amazing Christian Giegerich (the announcer may sound familiar, but don't worry, he's harmless). And some invaluable help from Michael Smith (SokarsStudio) for rendering the video -- apparently, the sheer amount of awesome generated by my special guest left my computer incapable of rendering it.
Anyway, enjoy. And sorry for the long, long, long-ass wait. (The guest appearances were filmed back in November/December!)

So, episode 2? Umm ... let me think about that ...

pcj got a reaction from Frede in The 2012 AGS AwardsWell, I'm working on a game you may have heard of. We're also still puttering away at the VSB talkie. I think Chris got a real job or something, so an Incinerations follow-up may be a bit longer in the making.
