pcj reacted to Decaffeinated Jedi in The 2012 AGS AwardsGood point. The fact that Incinerations didn't at least win Best Animation is a perfect example of the drawbacks of using a popular vote for this kind of award. It's simply too difficult for a "smaller" game -- even one that may be creatively, artistically, or technically superior -- to compete with a massively successful commercial title. Yes, Space Quest fan games are a relatively small niche in the overall AGS community (one that may never appeal to many players), but it's a shame to see outstanding work overlooked.
There's a reason why we tend to place more stock in the Oscars (decided by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) than the People's Choice Awards (decided by...<shudder>...the general public). Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to produce a whole new crop of SQ fan games for the 2013 Awards, right? ;)

pcj got a reaction from Frede in The 2012 AGS AwardsNah, it lost "Best Player Character" to Ben Jordan.
I can't help but feel that commercial games should not be allowed to sweep the awards like that. It's becoming a trend.

pcj reacted to Akril in The 2012 AGS AwardsWell, it's been confirmed that the 2012 AGS Awards ceremony is going to be this Saturday at 8:00 PM UK Time. I'll certainly try to be there.

pcj reacted to Datadog in Superfan Hangout ThreadI'm game as well. Got Torin running. Put a bunch of oldies in my Sierra folder. Might play a little bit of Hoyle just to annoy somebody.
If special guests show up, it's cool. If not, I still have fun when it's just the bunch of us. I'm surprised we haven't done a community LP yet. It'd be fun to watch one person play the game and have everybody else do voices and play backseat driver.

pcj reacted to Javacat in Introduce Yourself!Hey!
I'm Javacat and some of you may recall me from my old alias, "JesseJames". I was a bit of a troll, wrote complete nonsense and caused a bit of trouble at times. I first appeared in a Space Quest community when I emailed Jess in 1999, when I contacted him with a query about SQ7 (I had forgotten about this, was just looking for when I joined that site and found the email from Jess :D ) and then registered in the SubSpace Channel not long after it was created in mid 2000.
Anyway, after joining the SubSpace Channel I moved into #sq and was a member of the JT for a while, although not so active in there. I stopped visiting the JT a long time ago but always stayed on #sq for some reason (nostalgia?). It was pretty much dead in #sq, with only me and PCJ in it for a few years, with E1ven occasionaly appearing. A year or so ago I switched into the channel after I saw something had been said and was surprised to see a channel full of people with various ramblings about the Two Guys reappearing :D
Didn't pay too much attention after this, just taking a little peek at the new game coming up and occasionally having a little gossip with Troels. Got a bit more of an interest now and finally decided to reappear on here!
Not much else to say, other than I've finally gotten an MT-32 and frickin love watching and listening to it whilst playing SQ3
I should also probably get around to playing VSB now
Edit: Oh, my signature has just reminded me that I also did a HTML conversion of the Space Quest FAQ back in 2003. Totally approved by Troels

pcj reacted to Capn_Ascii in The 2012 AGS AwardsWell, alright then. Now that that's settled...
...I expect to see every last person on these boards voting for SQ in every single category. *Especially* for Incinerations. Nothing against SQ2 VGA, but epic new Space Quest game beats out classic game remake every time. :D
Oh, and the two Pledge Quests, of course. ;) </kissing up to Jess>
On a side note, I notice that Vohaul Strikes Back isn't in here anywhere - I'm assuming it wasn't eligible, for some reason. Was it not made with AGS, or something? I confess to being ignorant of the criteria for getting on the nominee list...
-
pcj reacted to Akril in The 2012 AGS AwardsWell, the nominations are now over, and all but one of the SQ/SQ-related games released in 2012 made it! :D

pcj reacted to Kesmit in Introduce Yourself!Hello, All.
Finally got around to browsing over here after getting involved in the KickStarter.
I'm a 39 year old Technology Architect for 1,000+ retail stores that you (or your wife) probably know. My wife & I live in sunny Southwest Florida. My first computer gaming memories go back to the Commodore ViC20 playing Scott Adams text adventure games. My first Sierra game was KQ1 (borrowed from a schoolmate) that I played on my Tandy 1000. The first Sierra game that I bought was Space Quest for that same Tandy... in fact, I've immortalized it. (http://www.liquidsilence.com/journal/2012/5/27/space-quest-floppy-disk-shadow-box.html)

pcj reacted to Decaffeinated Jedi in Superfan Hangout ThreadMuch to my dismay, it turns out that Saturday won't work for me this time around. Have fun with the Hangout, y'all! I'll definitely watch the proceedings on YouTube afterwards.

pcj reacted to mhaley in Conrad Sheldons Seira Web sightI nearly had a heart attack when I read the thread title. Thanks, Frede! I'm surprised that anyone remembers Conrad fondly. I expected to come here and see animated GIFs depicting dead horses. I'm glad that everyone here is mature about it now. Andromeda knows meelWORM and I were not as mature back then. It was just an evil means to promote Chris Cromer's ailing AGI web site. In the short term, it actually seemed effective, but once word got out on the Subspace Channel... Well... It's better to leave some things in the past.
I did re-examine the whole thing in 2009, with a look back at agigames.com, the birth (and death) of Conrad Sheldon, and a retrospective on the AGI game based on the character that we never completed. In part, because so many people continually told us not to, even though some of the early drafts of the story were shaping up quite hilariously.
Worth a read, I guess.

pcj reacted to MusicallyInspired in SQ2 Remake Soundtrack A!Finally, I'm releasing the tracks I made for the SQ2 remake by Infamous Adventures. Along with some bonus tracks that weren't included in the game! I'm calling it Soundtrack A because it's not the entire soundtrack. There were two other very capable composers who also composed for the game. I did most of the space sections of the game. Some (not all) of James Mulvale's themes can be found on his Space Quest SoundCloud along with some unreleased SQ3 material he made. Isaac Lundgren's SQ2 score is available at his website for streaming.
Since I lost many of the original masters, many of these are lossy versions only (possibly compressed a couple times over, I can't remember). They are all MP3 and some of theme are still in their loopable states.
Space Quest II Remake - Soundtrack A (MediaFire) 47.7MB ZIP
25 Tracks in all. Here's the tracklist:
Introduction (Space Quest II Theme) Opening (Life Sucks...Again) Sweeping the Deck Xenon Orbital Station 4 Ambushed! Dark Lord of the Sloth (Vohaul's Theme) SQ Sports Vohaul's Asteroid (Theme A) Do What You Love, Love What You Do (Cleaning Bot) Holodeck Unwanted Affection (Alien Chase) Ape Kaptain Vohaul's Asteroid (Theme B) Monolith Burger Entrance Acid Pit Roger Shrunk Escape Countdown BONUS - Cleaning Bot (Droid Speaker Version) BONUS - A Greatly Exaggerated Tale of Adventure (SQ4 Metal Medley) BONUS - SQ3 Garbage Freighter UNUSED - Dark Tunnels of Labion UNUSED - Glowing Cave UNUSED - Glowing Cave (Danger) UNUSED - Ancient Statue UNUSED - Vohaul's Asteroid This post has been promoted to an article

(Incidentally, this is something I wish I'd brought up during that last topic.)

pcj reacted to MusicallyInspired in Superfan Hangout ThreadNice. So apparently the on air died just after Troels' riveting commentary on the attention to detail that composers who are also drummers give to rhythm. Causing Scott to have the best closing words for the video.
