pcj reacted to Troels Pleimert in Space Quest Marathon?Actually, there's going to be some Two Guys commentary on the old games coming soon.
-
Chris Pope let me know the reason why there has been a stagnation in press contact the past couple of weeks. There was a rights problem that could have, potentially, jeopardized the entire Kickstarter campaign, which had to be resolved before they could continue with press.
These problems have all been resolved now, so expect a lot of press -- i.e. interviews and the like -- in the coming weeks. :)

pcj reacted to mrkenallen in Strategies for Upping Pledges? Here are a few suggestions.
Update your Facebook page or Google+ every time something new is released. Use a Guys From Andromeda wallpaper as your timeline cover, and if you're brave enough, use part of the image featuring the belt buckles for your portrait. Get on your Twitter account, follow the Two Guys, and then re-tweet each update. Log into your YouTube account, Subscribe to the Guys From Andromeda channel, Like each video, create a playlist of all their videos for your channel, and update the playlist every time a new video is released. Go to the iTunes store, subscribe to the Guys From Andromeda podcasts, and click the Share On Twitter and Share On Facebook links next to your favorite podcast. Do it again each time a new podcast is released. Use the iTunes PING feature If your employer's or school's email service has a mailing list for off topic threads, use it to promote the 2GA Kickstarter. If your company uses Yammer, do the same. If you are a member of other forums and boards, find the thread for the off topic threads and start a topic about the 2GA Kickstarter. Go to THIS thread, visit every link, post comments, beg the readers to pledge. Promote, Promote, Promote. We gotta help make this happen!

pcj reacted to Leonard in Strategies for Upping Pledges?I definitely think a $50 tier where you get access to a secret forum with exclusive info and access to the Two Guys a monthly Q&A with a status update of how the game is progressing/a few teasers would be very attractive to a good segment of the backers.
SpaceQuest.net could even host this :)
The idea of a documentary also seems to have been popular with earlier kickstarters, but I'm not sure it hasn't pretty much been done to death by now. I also don't know how practical it would be.
Edit: I think it might be better to add the forum access to the $45 tier. The matrix is already quite complex.

pcj reacted to JamonBull in Strategies for Upping Pledges?Maybe
I'm not sure about the whole backing for no reward idea. I know that I definitely want some of that cool stuff offered! But maybe SpaceQuest.Net could offer special 'badges' that appear under your avatar permanently. Obviously, there will be lots of fans generated once the new game comes out, but how cool would it be for the original fans to have a badge under their avatar which indicates that they were an original backer of SpaceVenture! Maybe these badges could be differentiated by colour? Bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, whatever.

pcj reacted to s_d in Press Mentions of SpaceVenture, Two Guys, and KickstarterGlanz Handerson here, to bring you the latest in SpaceVenture news!
Please post news as you see it; media only, no personal or user blogs unless they're notable (Wil Wheaton, Fellicia Day, Notch, etc). I've attempted to remove duplicates as much as possible, but this is a work-in-progress. I hope it's useful!!
Very important... please do not discuss any of the news coverage; for that, we have StellarSoul's thread at:

pcj reacted to Captain Nige in My Space Quest 2 Music VideoHello all!
Long time no speak, but I thought I'd drop by to show you the music video I made for my band, The Foxes, using Space Quest 2.
It's a little rough around the edges, but I hope that only adds to it's charm - anyway, I hope you find it enjoyable.
Cheers,
Nigel.

pcj reacted to mrkenallen in Your VST recommendationsHey SQ friends,
So I'm setting up a new home studio around Cubase.
I would like your recommendations for the best VST libraries out there. My goal is to bring the awesomeness of the SQ4 soundtrack into the 21st century.
I already have the Garritan Personal Orchestra as well as LASS and Edriol's Orchestral.
Honestly, if this is the this is at best that's out there? Meh.
But, you musician working stiffs, you know what's best. What do you recommend?
As always, your music pal, Ken Allen

pcj reacted to mrkenallen in Situation of rights for Space QuestI was at the Star Trek Experience when it was hosted at the Las Vegas Hilton. The casino area around the STE was called Space Quest and you could buy merchandise that bore the Las Vegas Hilton Space Quest logo. I bought a mug and sent it to Mark. Hopefully, he still has it.
Troels is right. It's best to stay away from stuff that can get you sued.
Also market-wise, it may be better to create a new IP anyway. The SQ brand has a bit of baggage and fans have certain expectations for any products that bear the name. In addition, historically, sequels tend to have an attach rate of 70%, which means if episode 1 had $1,000,000 worth of unit sales, a sequel would only generate $700,000. There are execptions, but only a magical few.
There is also the unknown risk of what Activision plans to do with the brand. If they make a new game under the brand and it does not live up to the awesomeness of the games by the two guys, a new SQ game by Mark and Scott would have an uphill battle.
In this circumstance I think it's far better to use the marquis value of the creators' name and reputation to create a new IP. "From the creators of..." This is something they will always own. But this also comes with some risks, like for example, how many people know the whole two guys saga enough to want to buy their games. I think it's pretty high, but that's seat of the pants.
Creating a new brand is easier if you know there is a pent up demand for it.

pcj reacted to Dat Engineer in Space Quest Marathon?I'm going to do a marathon this Saturday evening after work. Maybe a mini-marathon of sorts along the lines that someone else suggested; run through the games without burning a single savegame, or perhaps having only one savegame per game. Or I could play that dark horse of the Space Quest fangames - The Lost Chapter.
I heard that one was tougher than Orat hide.
-
pcj reacted to Rahul in Virtual convention?I love the idea of a sarien.net meetup :-D
You could even make it a collaborative, multiplayer playthrough of SQ1 since that game is completely available. It could be crazy hectic and chaotic, but a lot of fun and definitely something that could be recorded for posterity.

pcj got a reaction from Troels Pleimert in Situation of rights for Space QuestCopyright law is very tricky, especially getting into fair use and what not. Obviously they can't copyright every element of a story ("they used spaceships in their story so we are suing them for copyright infringement!"), so I think the Two Guys are OK.
The Space Quest trademark is still active, the Roger Wilco trademark has been canceled. And as long as the trademark is in active use it doesn't have an expiration. -
pcj got a reaction from jfrisby in Two guys do a "video" interview with the fansThey basically talked about the artwork:

And a bit of discussion about SQ history:
http://imgur.com/a/0nxRq
Nobody could hear Chris and Mark was sick so Scott basically carried the show. They did mention Prototype 2 was still a few days out yet, though. And they're trying to get the SQ license still.

pcj reacted to e1ven in Two guys do a "video" interview with the fansAs part of the KS fundraising, Mark and Scott did a interview- It was mostly just Audio, but there were some 2d artwork inserts.
Mark was a bit ill with Space Flu, and Chris's mike didn't work, but it was a really great interview.
I hope to see more.
