pcj reacted to drdrslashvohaul in An ode to all things Sierra and Roger WilcoI don't mind the conclusion. Or rather, I don't mind that the author doesn't like the project. (S)he is well within his/her rights to not like SpaceVenture, not like the Two Guys, not like the way the social media is handled, and everything else.
What I have a problem with is the complete non-sequitur between the first half of the article and the second. I don't understand how they got from point A to node 2.
What I also have a problem with is the complete lack of evidence for the conclusion. What exactly did the Two Guys say on Twitter that was so bad? What spoilers have they released? Where is the indication that this will be an action game? Because I've followed all of these developments really closely and... well... I've not seen any of this stuff actually happen.
Provide some links and screen grabs and we can engage with the discussion. Otherwise, it's just a poorly written article that doesn't seem to be based at all in the reality of the SpaceVenture project.

pcj reacted to JimmyTwoBucks in An ode to all things Sierra and Roger WilcoSounds like he followed them on twitter, maybe read a tweet or two he didn't like or didn't agree with
and has now just convinced himself he won't like the game either...
Otherwise why say, "The characters and storyline do not appeal to me" when we don't even know the
storyline and we have only seen one character essentially?
I reckon there is something specific he's not saying, they probably dissed something he likes...
eg. this guy might be a big fan of pineapples and the two guys may have been like, "pineapples suck,"
and this guy is now all like, "oh no, the people who made a game I like aren't exactly the same as me,
therefore I can't like the game anymore."

pcj got a reaction from JimmyTwoBucks in An ode to all things Sierra and Roger WilcoPretty sure the issues are unnecessarily conflated. The author expects the Two Guys to be perfect and is shocked when they are real people. Then they criticize other journalists for not appreciating it when authors experiment with their games. Sounds like a double standard to me, but I don't think the author expected SpaceVenture to be an action game (or that they think it will be).

pcj reacted to Troels Pleimert in Space Quest at its best? It's hard for Space Quest-obsessed people like us to pin down what makes each Space Quest game better than the other. So I've tried stepping out of my subjective navel-gazing and offer this handy guide:
SQ1: Play if you like being marooned on desert planets.
SQ2: Play if you like being marooned on jungle planets.
SQ3: Play if you like hopping around planets and playing arcade sequences.
SQ4: Play if you like hopping through time and being in constant mortal danger.
SQ5: Play if you like hopping around planets while solving a mystery of conspiracy and bossing people around.
SQ6: Play if you like hopping around planets, then some chick's inner organs.

pcj reacted to PandaLeon in Space Quest at its best?Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and kinda just came across by accident whilst feeling very nostalgic.
I've played SQ3 from start to finish and still one of my fondest gaming memories from back in the day.
I have all the games in a box set but have kinda just kept it for nostalgic purposes.
Is there any other games in the series that you'd recommend or have I already experienced the best?
Cheers,

pcj reacted to Datadog in Ducktalez 7My new cartoon is out! This is the last in my long series of Ducktales cartoons dating back to high school. It took almost a year and a half to finish, and it's already opening up to positive reviews. Just a heads-up that it's over 35 minutes, so when you get the time, come check it out and leave a vote if you have an account. And be sure to check out previous episodes if you want to

pcj reacted to BlockMaster in Space Quest in MinecraftI made a spider droid! Look at my attached files! The first one is a creeper that I put on top of a spider with mcedit. The second one is a creeper with an unlimited invisible effect on top of a spider. For the model that I will use, it will probably be a cave spider, so it follows you and attack you, while the creeper blows up. Anyway, I was proud of it, so I decided to show it.

pcj reacted to Sledgy in SQ4CD (speech+text via ArtMoney)(made by Sledgy)
Without patching
I use Dosbox 0.74 and ArtMoney SE 7.21
Table with bug (first line in Russian - 'Глюк')
1. Launch DosBox (probably, 0.74)
2. ArtMoney (I got SE 7.21), open the table; choose the process 'DosBox'
3. Change line "Глюк" to 224234 and freeze it (by right mouse click menu)
4. Run the game. At the start it'll be in the Speech+Text mode
Don't use RESTART, only RESTORE; 'cause the freeze table line'll change (I dunno why) => This 'speech+text' thing won't work
Also you can exit and launch your game again. Table'll work
---
You can create trainer or edit exe. This table works for DosBox, not game
Address: 04831A36 --- change "158698" to "224234" (8 bytes)

pcj reacted to BlockMaster in Roger's death in jello... remake in Minecraft!Hi guys! I'm a huge fan of Space Quest and Minecraft. I play Minecraft very often and my skin is Roger Wilco from Space Quest III. One day, I was wandering around in superflat in creative mode and I found a big slime that was stuck between two houses in a village. Going closer, I realized that I could enter the slime body. In third-person view, it looks like Roger in the jello block, because of my skin, so I took a picture. See attached file.

pcj reacted to Collector in SQ4 update for CD - no speech here!I don't have that "patch" on my site as it is of questionable legality. It is essentially all of the game data from the disk version of the game that has been hacked together with CD version. I suppose that I could eventually create a binary difference patch that would require the user to have both versions to to apply the patch against.
As to the lack of speech, be sure that you are using the RESOURCE.AUD from the CD and that your RESOURCE.CFG points to it.

pcj reacted to MusicallyInspired in VSB Text Logo (Steam Grid Banners)Never mind. I looked all over Google Image Search and then visited the VSB site itself and the actual top banner of the page has a perfectly nice isolated version of the title text that will work just fine. lol
Here it is, for those who would like it. And one for Incinerations as well, which was just a fortuitously simple cropping job.

pcj reacted to Frede in List of Space Quest Fan GamesWell, the game is out there, so people are free to decide whether they love it or hate it. I should know - VSB has gotten a fair bit of flak as well. Producing a fan game does not necessarily mean insta-worship, and it's not going to disappear just because someone doesn't like it. Also, this is me disagreeing with you. On a discussion forum. Not picking your statement to bits.
You're right to talk about respect, though. But some of us have reasons for not liking that game, assuming this is SQ4.5 you're talking about, nor respecting its creator. I know that statement is annoyingly cryptic, so here's the story, for the umpteenth time (yes, I'm bitter and I like rambling):
The guy who made SQ4.5 worked as composer on Incinerations. As did I. But I turned in music I had made myself. He ripped a bunch of music off some film soundtracks and sent in that. When he was busted, it was too late to delay the game and he wouldn't even admit what he'd done; he was blaming his "record company". Cause they'd gone off and used his Space Quest music for Battle: Los Angeles and TRON Legacy without his permission. Yeah, that'll be the day.
And, just to be clear, Chris Ushko who made this game had asked for original music. The entire game had a temp soundtrack during development, so if he wanted to risk a C&D, he wouldn't even have had to bring any composers on board. He HAD a ripped soundtrack handy!
I think it's entirely my right to harbour resentment for these actions and judge this person's other "creative" works based on it. He made a brilliant game look slightly worse, he is still endangering its very existence (unless Disney never finds out about the TRON music) and he potentially made the work of us other composers come off worse. You know, cause if one of the composers is a rip-off, someone might think the others are too. All that for 15 minutes of fame.
I hear the "original soundtrack" in SQ4.5 is anything but. Wonder who the record company sold his music to there.
By all means, use ripped resources to convey your story if you must. But be honest about it and don't let your lies potentially damage other people's reputations. Have pure intentions. Then your "Space Quest mashup" of sorts (admittedly, I tend to love mashups) is worthy of my respect. I hope the above clears up why I think this game is not.

pcj reacted to MusicallyInspired in Debut Single Release - Uncontrolled ReentryHey, guys! I'm excited to announce my first step on my own into the music industry (besides the game work I've done) with my first song entitled "Uncontrolled Reentry"!
It's a 9-minute instrumental with elements of electronic, rock, progressive, and probably more reflecting my personal journey through life, how unpredictable it's been, and how I'm positive and excited about where the future will take me. All that fancy wording aside, it's basically just finally my own project with my own ideas and outlook on music that I've been wanting to get out there for years. It's inspired by artists like Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, and even bands like Dream Theatre and Pagan's Mind. It's available from my website BrandonBlume.com, my Facebook Page and my Bandcamp music store only right now, but it will be coming to iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and more digital distributors in the coming weeks, and I'll let you know when that happens.
I'm releasing this single preemptively to support a forthcoming full-length album I'm thinking of calling "Peaks and Valleys". I'll be representing a somewhat wider variety of styles in the full album in various ways, but mostly by combining my favourite sounds into one style, similar to how I've done that in this single.
You can stream Uncontrolled Reentry from my Bandcamp music store or from my SoundCloud. If you like what you hear and want to hear more please consider throwing me a dollar and supporting me and my project!
I hope you enjoy it! And if you do please spread the word and mention it to your friends. :) Thank you, Troels, for the retweet, btw!
