This is probably the dumbest thing I've read today; pardon my bluntness. Are you actually suggesting that we shouldn't care about racism, sexism, bigotry or homophobia? To me, writing "big four of BS" about these topics is just self-servingly ignorant.
 
Don't get me wrong. I'm not intent on upholding some PC standard for behavior or to encourage self-censorship in any way. I'm just going to reiterate the point that I already quoted Carlin on in the "damsel in distress" post, which is that it's the intent behind a statement that's offensive, not the words or wordings themselves. Your "intent" here, however, seems to be that anyone who decries racism, sexism, bigotry or homophobia is by default trying to control your thoughts and force you to conform to a certain world view.
 
Not so. You can tell me a racist joke if you're not racist, because I know it's not coming from a prejudiced mind. You can tell me a sexist joke or a gay joke, too, if you fundamentally believe in gender equality or gay rights. If you don't, however, and tell me a joke on either of these anyway, I'm going to assume that you're just a bigoted a-hole who thinks it's funny to pick on people different than yourself. That's the fundamental difference between being PC and being able to joke about things.
 
It's not self-censorship. It's not about giving up your freedom to say what you want. It's about having values that don't demean or belittle other human beings.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but I believe it is an important consideration.
 
What is something many of us do as soon as we start certain adventure games? Turn up the character's walking speeds, right? Who wants to sit and wait while a character lumbers from one side of the screen to the next, over and over?
 
I was recently playing Moebius (disappointing product from a developer who apparently struggled technically to make the game work, but no need to get into that here), and I found it annoying how slowly the main character walks around and performs many actions. Even in tense scenes, where the character's safety is at risk, he still strolls around as if he hasn't a care in the world.
 
My suggestion for SpaceVenture: definitely give us the option to make the playable character run/jog whenever we want, rather than simply walk.

Don't confuse freedom of speech with freedom from consequences. You can say whatever you want, but be prepared to face the consequences when you say something deeply offensive to someone else. As for game developers, the makers of a commercial product have to bear in mind the affect on marketability if they alienate vast swaths of their potential customer base. If they do not mind losing half or more of their potential customers, then by all means, they can blow all of that development money by getting as nasty as they want towards a big chunk of the people to whom they hope to sell the end product. Remember, even if you do not find some name or term offensive does not mean that it is not deeply cutting and offensive to others.

Frank Zappa said something similar in an infamous 1986 episode of Crossfire on the subject of censorship. I find myself agreeing with him here. He also often stated that he, in his songs, was a simple documentarist. He'd often find himself in the crosshairs of people who thought he treated women appallingly in his lyrics, but as he would bluntly put it, "women do fucking stupid things too". In the light of that (true) kind of equality, I think it's worth nothing that Larry Laffer is constantly made fun of in those games. He's not exactly a hero who gaineth a woman. He's a loser who is berated, tortured and laughed at for being completely out of step with reality. You could argue that the series would pretty much lose that subtext after the first three games. Certainly, I find the women in LSL5 to be objectified. But merely branding LSL as "sexist" and smugly submitting your review is, I think, a very black/white oversimplification of the issue.
 
Also, I think Gareth, Troels and Andrew have all covered what I think about this subject in a much more eloquent fashion than I ever could. I deplore the whole notion of censorship, but I would honestly prefer that over being subjected to the "opinions" of people who somehow find that freedom of speech is a licence to be an asshole. "Think before you talk" can go a long way without even coming close to the dreaded self-censorship.

The only thing more annoying than a PC bore is an anti-PC bore. I have no problem with jokes or themes that aren't "polite", providing there's a point to them and providing they fit properly within the context of the story that is being told. It's the unthinking, cliché drivel that turns me off. A film like Dallas Buyers Club, for example, isn't PC, but tells an important story about how screwed up the world is/was. A film that simply shouts "fag" to get laughs isn't. Not a difficult concept to get your head around, really.
 
All I'd ask of developers is that they don't live in the 1950s. I find the sorts of stories that play on the "thou gaineth a WOMAN" plot tropes to do something new and interesting are worthwhile in themselves because... er... they're new and interesting. 
 
The ultimate ideal of political correctness, by the way, is that people won't have to censor themselves because they won't think like idiots in the first place. :)
 
I do love how "er... quite like this game, but does it have to treat women as objects>" is automatically painted as "free speech chilling". A very good tactic by those who want the freedom to act like dicks to censor... well, obvious irony is obvious.

To attract someone to your project may require some sort of "proof of concept". Place holder images may be the best recourse to that end. You might see what you can find online in terms of royalty free images.
 
@MI, the KQ2AGI picture and view resources worked pretty well for place holder images for your KQ2SCI. A few more community contests could flesh out its resources to completion.

Good SF can be both fun and "meaty" at the same time.

Don't take this as a personal attack, but to make such an argument indicates someone who has not read a lot of science fiction or paid much attention to certain shows and movies. SQ is a great comedy adventure game series with an SF motif, but is pretty shallow when stacked up against the likes of Phillip K. Dick or Fredrick Pohl. Even shows like TNG's The Measure of a Man carries some pretty heavy philosophical questions. Science Fiction is more than rocket ships and ray guns. It is venue to explore ideas that cannot be explored through conventional means.

Well, Sierra was a pretty cool place to work until Ken decided to take the company public and then sell it. A Sierra 2.0 would probably harken back to the old creative and free-spirited days. Uh, in theory, at least. It probably wouldn't have been such a fun prospect after all with you-know-who in charge.
