Collector reacted to Spikey in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateHe's done enough Trowe-lling for Sierra IP, that's for sure..
I'm done being serious on this topic. Time to either move on and focus on the 2Guys announcement, or look on the funny side of this. Only so many times we can rehash this story, I think the main exercise, getting kudos to the burned Replay volunteers and exposing Paul, is accomplished. Great job to all involved (except you-know-who).

Collector reacted to MusicallyInspired in Space Quest on AndroidI can play most of the SQ games on my Galaxy S3. Pixel clicking is a nightmare with your huge thumb, though.

Collector got a reaction from pcj in Space Quest 4.5Warning!! The link on that page takes you to a "download service" That not only makes you wait to jump through hoops to get to the "download", what you get is not the game, but a downloader disguised as a RAR that installs a browser toolbar and hijacks the home page. I killed the app before it completed what it was doing, but I am doing a full scan right now to see if I missed anything.

Collector reacted to Akril in The 2012 AGS AwardsWell, the nominations are now over, and all but one of the SQ/SQ-related games released in 2012 made it! :D

Well, seeing as this game was made by Brian Provinciano, yes the very same Brian who created SCI Studio, Locker Gnome Quest, and oogles of SCI and AGI tools for the community (along with AGI256), I'd say it's a pretty legitimate homage.

Collector reacted to MusicallyInspired in SQ2 Remake Soundtrack A!Finally, I'm releasing the tracks I made for the SQ2 remake by Infamous Adventures. Along with some bonus tracks that weren't included in the game! I'm calling it Soundtrack A because it's not the entire soundtrack. There were two other very capable composers who also composed for the game. I did most of the space sections of the game. Some (not all) of James Mulvale's themes can be found on his Space Quest SoundCloud along with some unreleased SQ3 material he made. Isaac Lundgren's SQ2 score is available at his website for streaming.
Since I lost many of the original masters, many of these are lossy versions only (possibly compressed a couple times over, I can't remember). They are all MP3 and some of theme are still in their loopable states.
Space Quest II Remake - Soundtrack A (MediaFire) 47.7MB ZIP
25 Tracks in all. Here's the tracklist:

Dark Lord of the Sloth (Vohaul's Theme) SQ Sports Vohaul's Asteroid (Theme A) Do What You Love, Love What You Do (Cleaning Bot) Holodeck Unwanted Affection (Alien Chase) Ape Kaptain Vohaul's Asteroid (Theme B) Monolith Burger Entrance Acid Pit Roger Shrunk Escape Countdown BONUS - Cleaning Bot (Droid Speaker Version) BONUS - A Greatly Exaggerated Tale of Adventure (SQ4 Metal Medley) BONUS - SQ3 Garbage Freighter UNUSED - Dark Tunnels of Labion UNUSED - Glowing Cave UNUSED - Glowing Cave (Danger) UNUSED - Ancient Statue UNUSED - Vohaul's Asteroid This post has been promoted to an article

Collector got a reaction from pcj in Style of the new game...I, too am a bit put off by all of the cartoony art work in newer adventure games. It is far too over used. For some games it may in keeping, both in terms of the nature of the game and in keeping with its past. By the time you get to VGA, the LSL games became more stylized caricatures. Sometimes, though, the absurdity of some situations is more acute and therefore funnier when it is more relatable to real life. Cartoons can make it too abstract.
That said, SpaceVenture is not Space Quest. It might borrow heavily Scott and Mark's humor and puzzle style that they used in Space Quest, but it is its own entity. Whether it fits or not remains to be seen, but whatever the case, we should be happy for a new game from them. I am sure that they will deliver a quality product.

Collector got a reaction from MusicallyInspired in Anyone just the tiniest bit restless? Not to pile on, but TSL departs so much from the original spirit of KQ that it does not come across as anything like a KQ. The story and dialog is juvenile and overly melodramatic. However, not to completely bash the TSL team, it is incredible for anyone to finish such a large project in your spare time and many of the mistakes can be attributed inexperience. Many of the team were kids when they started and it shows. That said, I do wish them well in their new game.

Collector reacted to MusicallyInspired in Fun with the MT-32DOSBox automatically uses the Windows MIDI mapper for its MIDI output. You just have to set your game to output to the MT-32, as you would have to in regular DOS. Run install.exe, select it, period.

Collector got a reaction from Intendant S in Replay Games drop Adventure Mob For Fusion InteractiveI don't think we need to look further beyond than this. Clearly they saw a need to move on from AM and any future games depend on this remake doing well. If they felt that their best options were to go with another developer, we should take their word on it. No need to invent conspiracy theories or start up the Paul Trowe accusations again. -
Collector reacted to MusicallyInspired in AT&T & Dish Networks to Drop AMC (Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, etc)Ok. Seeing as I don't use Dish or AT&T it's not an issue for me. I hope you guys that use them can get that sorted, though. Personally, I think we should all just switch to Netflix and leave TV in the dust.

Collector reacted to Datadog in What if we won't make it?Ah, but they haven't pitched a story idea either. When Al Lowe did his Kickstarter, backers knew they were getting a remake of Leisure Suit Larry. When Jane Jansen did hers, she pitched three story ideas and let the backers vote on them, so we all knew the general game ideas we were funding. I think SpaceVenture will get a lot more backers and a lot more mainstream sites will jump on promoting it once the Two Guys share their brilliant game idea with the world.

Collector got a reaction from Frede in Your Covers of Ken Allen's Game Music for YouTubeHey Ken, have you tried IA's SQ2 VGA remake? I felt it truly recaptured the spirit of SQ. http://www.infamous-...ex.php?page=sq2 -
Collector got a reaction from ChrisPope in AdventureGamers' forums' thoughts on the Two Guys' KickstarterI would request that anyone that responds to that thread to please do so respectfully. We don't want to get the 2 Guys tread locked. There were a lot of negative posts in Jane's and Al's Kickstarter threads, too. Some people just want to whine about everything.

Collector reacted to Decaffeinated Jedi in AdventureGamers' forums' thoughts on the Two Guys' KickstarterI find it interesting that a decent chunk of the criticism on message forums and comment sections has focused on the Two Guys' promise to include SQ-style death sequences in the game.
I get the impression that, for a lot of younger gamers, deaths are essentially "what's wrong" with old school adventure games -- especially Sierra games. Somewhere along the way, the LucasArts model seems to have prevailed, making games that feature character deaths seem "behind the times" or "unfair" in some sense. In many ways, the Space Quest series' emphasis on gruesomely hilarious (or hilariously gruesome) death scenes makes it emblematic for what a certain segment of the audience perceives as a "broken" gameplay mechanic.
Naturally, as SQ fans, we view these death scenes as part of the charm of the series. For some, though, I think the tendency is to lump character death right alongside unwinnable states as an unpardonable adventure gaming sin.
Just a largely irrelevant observation...
