Yeah, that was really, really weird. Twitter said my tweet with the link was "too long; you'll have to be more clever." And so I out-clevered it with my, um, cleverness!

Apart from that, I've plastered it all over the Google+ page, the Space Quest group on Facebook -- and someone should really write a SQN front page news post about it. ;) (Okay, okay, I'll do it, but I'm off to a meeting in 15 minutes, so it'll have to be later today. I SAID LATER! Don't make me turn this spaceship around.)

At this point you must be tired of the continuous tongue bath I'm giving you and Akril, but really, this thing is fantastic.

This is one of the few adventure games (not counting "The Dik") that has made me laugh out loud. You guys did a brilliant job - there's just so much unadulterated fun packed into these three rooms. So my sincere congratulations - you deserve all the praise you can get :)

You're a great team, obviously. Any plans to do non-"Pledge Quest" games?

After four months of hard work, Akril and I are proud to announce the release of Pledge Quest II: Noodle Shop of Horrors. You can head over to the newly-launched PledgeQuest.Net and download it now for Windows, Mac, and Linux!*

Here's a screenshot from the opening cinematic that showcases Akril's awesome art on the project:

I hope you folks enjoy the game; it was a blast working on it. Now, let's spread the word** and rustle up a few more buckazoids for the SpaceVenture stretch goals!

So, ideas for the next Hangout?

I thought it might be fun to do a "Space Quest Debate" format. We put forward questions ("What's the funniest Space Quest?", "What's the most frustrating puzzle?", etc.) and do a roundtable discussion. Yes, it's stuff that we've been discussing for almost two decades on various forums, but it could prove interesting to do it in Hangout form instead.

    Hey everyone,

Sorry about the extreme scarcity of updates to this thread, but at long last I can finally announce that work on Pledge Quest II is finally nearing completion! It should hopefully be ready to download within the next week. Jess and I have spent a long time working on this thing, and it shouldn't be long before we finally have something to show for our efforts (as well as something to help promote the SpaceVenture stretch goals)!

After reviewing the tape, I recognize the Space Quest Historian's Astro Chicken victory. It was a close battle, but Troels clearly triumphed.

I find it interesting that a decent chunk of the criticism on message forums and comment sections has focused on the Two Guys' promise to include SQ-style death sequences in the game.

I get the impression that, for a lot of younger gamers, deaths are essentially "what's wrong" with old school adventure games -- especially Sierra games. Somewhere along the way, the LucasArts model seems to have prevailed, making games that feature character deaths seem "behind the times" or "unfair" in some sense. In many ways, the Space Quest series' emphasis on gruesomely hilarious (or hilariously gruesome) death scenes makes it emblematic for what a certain segment of the audience perceives as a "broken" gameplay mechanic.

Naturally, as SQ fans, we view these death scenes as part of the charm of the series. For some, though, I think the tendency is to lump character death right alongside unwinnable states as an unpardonable adventure gaming sin.

    Just a largely irrelevant observation...

Thanks for the kind words! It's a little too early to go into much detail, but there's more Pledge Quest in the works. We're really upping the stakes for Bea this time around...

Decaffeinated Jedi got a reaction from Johnathon in Space Quest at its best?
The other day, I was thinking about the Space Quest series and trying to identify a segment from one of the games that embodies what I think of as Space Quest at its very best. Is there a particular sequence from the series that encapsulates everything we love about Roger Wilco's adventures?

The best that I came up with (and I realize this kind of thing is completely subjective) is the junk freighter sequence that opens Space Quest 3. I can't think of another segment from the series where the art, puzzle design, writing, and even the music all come together so effectively. It also incorporates some interesting/innovative mechanics for a SCI0 game; the recolored sprite when Roger walks into shadowy areas, the bucket lift, the conveyor belt, the grabber, and the Aluminum Mallard controls all spring to mind.

Better still, the sequence is self-contained. Escaping the junk freighter almost works as its own standalone mini-adventure.

Another candidate that occurred to me was the Kiz Urazgubi sequence from Space Quest 5, but that's probably just my SQ5 love talking. ;)

What do you folks think? What sequence embodies Space Quest at its very best?
