    Greetings, Space Denizens!

In honor of the Two Guys Kickstarter, I'm re-launching SQ7.org.

The website, that is, not the project.
I'm going to Open the Kimono, and show you some of the sights, sounds, and smells of our SQ7.

I'll be posting what we did, why, and hopefully encouraging you to go buy the SpaceVenture.

We did a lot of really cool stuff, and it's getting a bit smelly in the back of the closet.

So enjoy this trip through my hard drive, and the making of SQ7.

Heh - he put the second one up on the TGA page. Not the first or third, which is fine. I am doing them to have fun and try and promote SpaceVenture at the same time. I have gone around posting them on various forums myself.

(I don't think Scott is a prude though, and that he'd work about the word 'Cock being used so much).

Thanks! Hoping to do one or two more before the KS ends, if time permits!

Folks; my wife & I have been thinking about this for about three weeks now, but backer Maya commented, in the aftermath of funding, that we ought to put together a celebratory fan art collage. I agree, at least to celebrate the difficult journey that project had in getting funded, if for no other reason (like a tribute or something).

I have no idea how or in what way it will come together, but I made this topic to spark discussion. This will be fun, I think!

So... SpaceVenture Kickstarter community... what do you think?

Should we do something like this?

What form should it take? Physical, digital, etc? Video? Something else?

    Ode To 218K
    -----------------
    The Spaceventure got underway
    And stalled around 218K
    But you increased pledging power
While I was in the shower
    And funded this bastard TODAY!

There are also haiku and my terrible limerick (which had one malformed non-rhyming stanza). If anyone else has, knows-of/remembers, or wants to author some more, that would be awesome, too. These could be read aloud to be dubbed over imagery by a KS backer with a golden voice (as yet to be found)... I (or Mrs. S.D.) could probably do it reasonably well. If we have trained voice actors amongst our KS backers, that would be much better.

    Games:
PledgeQuest & The Mysterious Cartridge: http://www.spaceques...e-spaceventure/ Music: So, I'm not sure here... there is lots of music from before the Kickstarter associated with the fan games. However, as far as fan music authored for the KS project, I only know of the as-yet-forthcoming "Ballad to 218K" that Ohverture is composing right now.

And we helped make this happen! Thanks a ton to everyone who went out of their way to help fund and promote this thing.

I think a video could work if we have someone who wrote a song or something for the project too, which could work as background music -- not sure if anyone did or not, because I know I missed a lot of stuff while sleeping. then again, a digital collage could work as well, which could also be printed out into a physical form if necessary (like if someone wanted to mail it to the guys)

I'm glad you think the idea is a good one too -- I just think it shows in a fun way the kind of love people have had for this :)

I played your game today, filipst. I thought the English was very good, and the ending (plus Roger's reaction to it) was hilarious! Great job!

Also, good work on the custom GUI. It's great when a game designer refuses to stick with AGS's default GUI, even if the game is really short.

EDIT: "plug Roger's reaction"? I really shouldn't post messages here so late at night...

You should be doing whatever it is that brings you some happiness. It's all too easy for us to demand more, more, more, from talented and prolific artists without considering the toll it takes on them (no, I'm not saying Spikey is doing that... I'm saying all of us are prone to that on one level or another). Those that are friends, and truly appreciate your work will be willing to wait for inspiration to strike, and will (again) appreciate whatever effort you make. It's clear that you have a love for adventure games and fan fiction... I suspect that it will strike again at some point.

When it does, there is no reason you couldn't have the same level of help and support from friends here, and even (hopefully!) a whole new generation of brilliant adventure game fans spawned from this current revival. For what it's worth, I'm honored to have been around for this "small" effort of yours, and to see your creative process in action. Thank you for that, Akril.

No takers? I'd really like to have some test feedback by the time I arrive back home (driving all day today). I'll probably be lurking, via mobile, but will not really be able to interact much. SO! If you test it and report some results, don't be upset if I don't reply.

pcj; if good test results are posted (two perhaps?) then please go ahead and mirror it. If you do, you may wish to rename it from Beta2 to just "PledgeQuest.app.zip".

Welcome to the forums, Raiden. You certainly kicked off with a well-written post that raises more than a few very valid points.

I think you are spot-on in everything you write. So let me just add another smoking gun to your conclusions on this whole charade. Apart from the concerns raised by Mixnmojo, there was an incident a while ago where someone trusted by the Guys delibrately misled them into thinking the "Space Quest"-IP and the rights for the "Two Guys from Andromeda"-name resided with Telltale, and not Activision and they previously believed. It took around two weeks of phone calls and voice mails for them to find out that the rights in question were still owned by Activision, and had been so all along. Meanwhile, however, they had lost about two weeks of press because they didn't want to face the legal troubles they would get themselves in, had the rights been with Telltale. Adding to that, it's a fairly open secret that the Kickstarter has seen some quite odd activity apart from the negative comments.

I'm somewhat sure that the perpetrator for all this stuff is known by the Two Guys. But obviously, since this kind of behaviour might do more harm than good for their project, they'd be keeping the identity of the person confidential in any case. But this goes to show that there is definitely more to this mess, and that it's certainly not getting prettier.

Us "Space Quest"-fans are just grateful that the Kickstarter seems to be on the right track now and some of us are quite content with this discussion being brought up, as long as it's kept on a civil level.

When one ports a game to a new platform, tweaks are made, features added, sacrifices made. This does not necessarily mean that design compromises always have to be made; simply that differences exist between ports. For example; the tablet version of the prototypes use a touch-and-wait interface to present the action icons. I doubt that the desktop versions would need such a feature.

Likewise, the tablet versions of SpaceVenture may eschew parts of the parser; perhaps they will have slightly different hotspots to accomplish the same puzzles, etc. The point is that if there is a way to export the game assets and some large aspects of game logic to multiple platforms (such as engines that can export to Flash, etc), then the possibility of a playable HTML5 target could be a reality. It has been my experience with code generation tools that such an exercise is invariably coupled with hand-massaging on each port. But, this is fine, and ought to be expected. The higher quality the output tool, the more flexible the game assets, and the more skilled and funded the development team, the easier this process is.

I'm extremely excited at the prospect of playing this game (and, with luck, its many successors) natively on my Linux desktop, and then later working a puzzle on my Android mobile while waiting in line, having a friend help me with a difficult part that he demonstrates on his Mac laptop, watching Let's Play's on YouTube posted by Windows gamers, etc. I see no reason that HTML5 can't play a part in that, and be a vehicle to sell the game commercially on the Chrome App Market, the upcoming Mozilla HTML5 App Market, and of course iOS.

I hope that this vision of an open web utilizing open standards can be realized alongside the traditional desktop paradigm (the one on which I rely more than anything else).
