Very well said Blackthorn, there comes a time when some people have to look within and realize if they have NO real relationships with other people, that everyone distrusts, or doesn't want to be around, or work with. You just might realize the common factor in each instance is yourself.. Then you realize you're NOT the victim being picked on by everyone you interact with and that you are indeed the aggressor... Some learn and can be honest with themselves and make an effort to change... Others never grow out of it and continue to act entitled and that everyone around them owe them something. Paul is in a position to live a truly happy and blessed life but it will never happen unless you mirror the love you recieve. .. He has found himself surrounded by talented and passionate people, the means to make something special, and charitable people to make it happen, I wouldn't have squandered that gift from the universe..

Pretty excited. Wish MGX was a new GK but this is certainly not something to be sad about

This is also something to keep in mind; nobody will ever remake an entire game (or create an entire fan-game) that was created by Paul Trowe. No one, out of pure love and admiration, will dedicate so much time and effort into such a thing. Something for which no compensation was required; just the sheer joy of doing it and sharing it with others.
He'll never have that. He can flap his mouth now, and boast about any successes, financial gook, whatever - but he'll never, ever, ever have that admiration and love. Ever. You can't buy that, you can't swindle that, and you can't fake your way to that.
He can claim to want to be "Sierra 2.0" but it'll never happen; he doesn't have the charisma to pull it off. Sure, Sierra was a business, we all know that. And inherent in that are lots of things that can be at conflict with the passions of the heart - but when that fades, and we're here - 20+ years later, still loving these games that made their financial "nut" a long time ago, and yet the love, dedication and devotion remains.
We'll still remember and love Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe long after we've all forgotten the name Paul Trowe. In the end, that will be his legacy. Nothing. There will be no legacy. That is kind of sad, if you can think about it from an outside perspective. But we all chose our own paths and we reap what we sow. You can shuffle off this mortal coil so easily - you have to ask yourself "What is it, really, that you want to leave behind? What kind of impression can I make on my fellow man?" I often asked myself this when I was on dialysis, as it seemed like I could be gone any second, and though I've not always been perfect - I have tried my best not to cast a shadow of darkness (Hah!).
I don't care what Paul Trowe has done with Leisure Suit Larry; it's honestly irrelevant to SpaceVenture. I don't know if it was really a "success", I don't know how it did financially. If people enjoyed the production of it, and got the joy of making a game, at least it could be a success on that level. However, I don't know if it was a great process making it. Whatever the case, I know there were lots of decent people who did work on that game - and worked hard.
But, again, their "sucess" or lack of it has nothing to do with SpaceVenture. SpaceVenture is its own project - and it has it's own needs, its own timeline and its own challenges. Maybe Paul is jealous that they didn't join "Sierra 2.0" but now it's obvious that he was never the right person for that job.
So, my friends and colleagues, I don't damn Paul Trowe or Replay Games; the noose of his hanging was fashioned by his own hands, and I don't want to take any joy in someone's bad/self-destructive behavior. I do, however, celebrate The Two Guys From Andromeda (And one Space Pope!) who have become friends and brothers-in-arms over the past few years, and continue my support of them, and I know they'll make a great game, full of adventure, fun, laughs and maybe even a gruesome death or two!!

Fronzel Neekburm got a reaction from SteveHNo96 in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateIf Josh is really gone for good (he has been absent from the forums ever since the game came out), then I'm amazed at the brazenness of Replay still having him listed as part of the company on their website (https://www.replayga.../index/about-us). All the more so considering the kind of litigious bullshit being stirred up by Trowe last year when some Kickstarter campaign featured Al Lowe in their pitch. I'm sure you all remember.
I've said it before, Josh was the embodiment of everything Reloaded did right. A company should consider itself lucky to have a man of his talent and integrity. I hope that, despite all this ugliness, we'll be seeing more from him in the future.
Thanks to MusicallyInspired for archiving this heartwarming display of solidarity in the face of true vileness. Again, I'm truly sorry for anyone affected by these recent bans, but at this point I can't really imagine anybody having any bad feelings about being kicked out of Replay's forums. Getting banned from that place is more a badge of honor than anything else.
As for the few people who still remain (or reregistered), I hope they'll soon realize that even flaming on that carcass of a forum is a waste of time. The place is doomed now anyway. Personally, I'll put my energy into posting on more constructive subjects than Mr Trowe's vicious antics from now on. Having us vent our collective rage will only fuel this guy's delusion, that he's actually worthy of our attention. He clearly isn't.
Don't feed the Trowe!

This whole situation isn't anything new for the Two Guys. Replay Games is the new ScumSoft, and Paul Trowe is the new Elmo Pug, the ridiculed CEO of ScumSoft before the company's demise.
The Two Guys triumphed before, and they shall again!

I'd like to say all of this comes as a shock, but honestly the only real shock is how long it actually took...
I'm personally not concerned in the least about SpaceVenture. I have faith in the team and I look forward to a fantastic game - whenever it happens to be ready. What I *AM* concerned about is the backlash received by the dedicated supporters who had the 'audacity' to politely ask Paul to not publicly berate the team in a public forum.
I’m sure karma will eventually sort it all out. His uppance will come <insert Larry pun here>. In the meantime, kudos to everyone who spoke out against him.
As for Josh, I had the chance to talk to him back in July and even at that point he mentioned that he wouldn’t be involved in LSL2R (should it ever come to pass - which I seriously doubt will ever happen now). Reloaded was a labor of love for him and I think he did a fantastic job staying true to the game’s spirit. Even during the Kickstarter though he told Al and Paul that it wasn’t his intention to spend years merely revisiting previous games. He didn’t specifically mention leaving Replay at the time, but it doesn’t surprise me too much either.
In my personal opinion (that I’m sure most of you share), Josh is an incredibly talented designer. Sadly his name often gets tacked on as an afterthought since he never had his own ‘headliner’ series back at Sierra. He definitely deserves more props than he typically gets though. It saddens me that Paul will probably get most of the spotlight on this project - not for reviving a legacy, but for being a professional jerk. Meanwhile the talented and dedicated people who actually deserve it are cast in the shadows.
So a great big thank you to Josh, Al, all the dedicated fans & supporters, Replay Games, N-Fusion, and anyone else I forgot to mention who isn’t named Paul Trowe.

Serena, you also got a message of support from me, although it's in your "other" folder on your Facebook account. For lack of a better word, Paul is a little little man and he seems fit to raise a fuss with anyone who decided to disagree with him at all. I tried to contact you as soon as I found out you were banned.

Here's the thread from Replay games for posterity in case it gets deleted. Moreso for those who can no longer view it. I'd think it'd be nice if you saw the support you're getting for yourselves. :)
Link to the original thread.

Monolith_Pig- I also want to see Replay and Paul Trowe out of the picture, as far as new Larry games go.
Remember who it was who blabbed about Telltale losing the KQ license: http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/activision-is-planning-something-for-kings-quest-franchise-rights-reportedly-recovered-from-telltale-games/
This apparently caused Telltale to themselves confirm the news within days.
Do you think Paul Trowe doesn't get a kick out of going around trying to plant doubts about his competitors and those whom he apparently seems to see as a threat?
Members of the gaming press, please get to the bottom of the Josh Mandel situation.
Why should Paul Trowe be allowed to announce the Mandel news (whatever it is) on his terms, when he wants, and in a way that benefits him? Force him to confront the issue now.
I really think Paul Trowe is a poisonous, destructive force within the adventure game community, and the sooner that classic Sierra IP is yanked out of his clutches for good, the better.
-
The person who wrote the following also posts here and is fair and respected:
http://mixnmojo.com/news/Is-Paul-Trowe-of-Replay-Sabotaging-Other-Kickstarters
Just a thought. Maybe the Mandel story can be confirmed?
But, yeah, I also had the impression that Al was passing the torch to Mandel. I've always thought Mandel is a great talent who had given so much creative content for Sierra games but who never got the top billing he deserved. It finally seemed like he was about to emerge as the "star" designer of some upcoming Replay adventure games. Regardless, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more from him.
Anyway, put me down as another one who supports and has faith in the Two Guys. I feel like this Trowe idiocy has reinvigorated my support for them! If a completed SpaceVenture will piss off Trowe, then it must happen! :-)

Fronzel Neekburm reacted to BigD in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateJust stepping in to add my 2 cents worth and maybe add Paul Troll another twitter fan or 2! I guess its a crime to not hang on every word out of Paul's mouth. At this point, I'm honestly annoyed that I upped my pledge in LSLR to get my image in the game. Thankfully I backed a bunch of other games (like say, SQ and QFI to name a couple) so I know I'll still come out ahead. For what little it is worth, I put a note in the Replay forum that I'm done and unliked the FB page and I'm movin' on a few bucks poorer but with a couple of wonderfully drawn pictures (given the horrid subject matter)! I only hope the downfall is quick enough to keep LSL alive and that it doesn't get dragged down in the undertow. Now back to the broom closet for an old adventurer's nap!

Fronzel Neekburm got a reaction from Frede in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateAn increase in Twitter followers, eh?
I guess people don't want to be late to the party when this batshit insane PR meltdown on legs throws his next misdirected hissy fit. Not that he's got anyone left to vent his anger on, anyway.

I backed SpaceVenture, though haven't been following things too closely. I also backed LSL:R and have participated in their forum, so I am familiar with Serena's contributions and the other regular posters there.
After some people posted that Paul Trowe has acted in an embarrassing way that reflects poorly on the company, it appears they were banned. Don't really know how it all went down, though. All of Serena's and the other banned people's posts over months and months were deleted just like that, apparently. Serena and these people did not deserve that.
That Paul Trowe (I'm assuming he did it) would seemingly just ban dedicated fans like that just seems very low and tells me a lot about the guy.
I don't understand why anyone would want to work with him. Why is Al sticking with him? Maybe Al has no other choice?
It seems Paul Trowe is very insecure. He has to go on another Kickstarter, trash others' work and brag to make himself feel better?
I came on to say two things:
First, Serena, I think you're probably better off not even having to deal with people like Paul Trowe, who is a very negative force in the adventure game community.
And, second, I am confident the SV/SQ fan community will continue to strongly support the Two Guys, despite Paul Trowe's apparent efforts to hurt the project's image.
-
Fronzel Neekburm reacted to tomimt in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateWhat a vindictive little man. I unliked Replay's Facebook page for what that's worth.
-
I wasn't there for the early drama, but I know for a fact that I'm happy to see so many adventure game developers rally around each other and support each other. As a fan of the genre since the '80s it feels good to give so much back to something that I've loved as a child. What Paul did and said hurt. A lot. But I'm willing to move on and support projects that deserve my time and effort.
-
Fronzel Neekburm reacted to tomimt in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateI wonder if Trowe really understands how much damage he's doing to not only his own reputation but the reputation of his company name as well. Josh did, indeed, fix up the previous PR disaster very nicely, but if he's not there to keep things in check I guess we won't be seeing that much of Replay in the future. I think he doesn't fully understand that he's a head of his company and as such everything he says or does reflects back on it as well. A sad thing indeed.
-
I agree with the others that it's really nice to see the community stick together. Love you guys
-
Well, this is sad more than anything.. Josh did a really great job of repairing the image of Replay for awhile with his updates and by hiding Paul, I didn't know that he'd left Replay (but that explains Paul being off-the-leash).
I can only imagine that LSL:R sales are poor to middling, and that's something all adventure game designers are probably going to have to face. Not that surprising Paul is imploding, given that he's probably alone, surrounded by bills and hate, and he's that sort of asshole. Looking forward to hearing stories from Josh in 5-10 years -- and many thanks to the fellow Replay forum folks for the good times, it was fun while it lasted :D
-
What a completely disappointing series of events. I still have a full on raging nerd boner over Space Quest it's going to be awesome. Serena I'm glad to have gotten to work with ya but I'm sure you've noticed I stopped volunteering my time with replay months ago without Josh Mandel there it wasn't the same.
-
Fronzel Neekburm got a reaction from Intendant S in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateAwesome! I was about to resign in disgust from the Replay forums after Trowe's revolting display towards dedicated über-fans like Serena and Tom, only to find out that someone already took the dirty work upon himself and banned me.
Well played, Mr Trowe! Well played! Driving away the few remaining fans who were willing to spread some positive word of mouth about a perfectly mediocre game.
I can't say how sincerely sorry I am for people like Serena, Tom and Irishmile for having so graciously given so much of their time, money, hard labour and LOVE, who are now getting spit out by this ungrateful scumbag.
-
Fronzel Neekburm reacted to DrJ in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter updateHello everybody,
Thank you for all the support. After reading Paul's comment on KS, I was done.
After him banning and deleting ALL the posts that Serena created on the forum, I'm even more done.
I've been active in the community for a long time (started all on the QuestStudios forum - hence this nickname). When the Sierra revival started with Leisure Suit Larry, I just couldn't sit by and not try to get involved. I've been grateful to be able to help out and provide my professional help to this project. I still stand behind all the work I've done and I'm happy to have helped bring this game to market. Josh Mandel is an awesome guy and I would work for him or ANYONE at N-Fusion Studios in a heartbeat! All such talented people that have such a great heart for the gaming industry.
I know more than I would say on here (I like to remain taking the high road) - but I just want to thank everyone for supporting us (Serena, Irish, Tom & myself) for speaking out against something we believe in. The adventure game community is a tight community and I am proud to be part of it. If anything, this experience has taught me a lot and I'm very grateful for all the people I got to know through this.
Thanks everyone.
