If I had to guess I'd say they have everybody's emails properly categorized for which tiers they backed at independent of KS's system, which would cover Paypal backers.

I hope that us Paypal backers were not forgotten, hah. I still have access to the rewards site. I will be buying the game to support it anyway, but I want that day one access 🙂
