Troels, just curious, but would you be able to track down any designers who worked on any of the later SQ games to get their take on art they helped produce and even their experiences at Sierra? Maybe Josh, Scott or Mark could connect you with some of these un-sung heros? I thought it was interesting that there was art mark couldn't really speak on in some of the games either to lack of knowledge or hands on interaction. I think out of all the content though that has been created since the start of the KS, I was most enamored with the insider interviews. Maybe more content like this for future podcasts?? And not to take away from any of the content you have come up with because frankly, I'm astonished at the amount of topics you have been able to embellish on in depth thus-far, so well done! HCH

I could finish this one up actually, I am pretty close to finishing up the SQ1 VGA remake poster. I opened it up this morning to see where I was in the process and it looks like it really just needs to have the blue bar restored with the addition of some texture adjustments to the characters and then poster versioning. I’ll see if I can find some free time here to finish this one up. I thought this thread was pretty much cast into the wasteland but if there is a renewed interest in these posters I’ll see if I can push out SQ5 & 6 at some point. @Tomimt- Thanks for the compliment HCH

I do like the fact that you acknowledge that, maybe I have experience in this kind of image editing, and I accept the compliment. I also did notice that you say I have discouraged aardvark4lunch. The “artist” himself hasn’t made any such claims, that is pure speculation at this point and frankly he may not appreciate you speaking for him at this time. You also said you know his price seems exaggerated for some. The only thing I can conclude from you stating the obvious is that pretty much you undervalue the back breaking time that he must have clearly put into this. Ok, I have returned with a vengeance! A little over a week ago I called aardvark4lunch out on his repugnant rendition of a Space Quest movie poster. So today I bring you my rendition of Space Quest 4, the movie poster!!! aardvark4lunch, please bask in the glory of this technical monster. I am a graphic designer by day and I get so nauseated by people like yourself, who plague the world with your terrible “art work” if you can call it that. Your the kind of person who thinks because you put a drop shadow or an outer glow in your work, people should be boggled by your abilities. Like I said before, normally I don’t care about your kinda white noise but it’s the fact that you expect so much in return and sadly you had some of these poor shlubs drooling over your dribble. I love the effort here but i'm not sold on this poster. First, $50? let's backer down a notch, there are way to many technical issues here that I just don't care to go into on this. I normally wouldn't care about this, but you put such a high price tag on this graphic that i'm not sure if you meant for that to be ANOTHER lame joke in addition to the poorly executed lens flair jab. Secondly, I'm not even slightly convinced that Alan Tudyk would do any justice to the role. He would bring such a cheep feel to the film rendering the movie to drab to watch. I would be pretty disappointed if he we're to play Rodger, way to generic and cartoonie for me. Look, I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just hate the positive affirmation others gave you for this amateur attempt. I think you should go back and try again. Maybe I'll take a stab at this and we'll see who's movie you would go see. HCH

Hey guys, I will look for a place to host the PSD's and the original files so you guys can revisit creating other restoration results and versions, as far as creating alternate downloads i'll leave that with you. My mission was to simply collect box scans in whatever state that may be and bring them to a cleaner state or a more polished look from what was scanned. I'm sorry if I didn't provide the highest of quality for some but none the less I just wanted to make these posters available since they are no where to be found online. Beyond that I have really enjoyed working on this project and it has been my pleasure to possibly have created ROUND 1 of Space Quest Box Scanned Poster Art. HCH

e1ven - Hey thanks for the call out. I'm not exactly sure what other way I could approach these scans, but of course i'm sure there is always another way. The process I'm using is based off the pure fact that when the scans come in they have a this ugly pattern on them that I left in on the SQ3 poster originally. I did have another fan call out that I could get rid of that by using a photoshop filter called medium and I t worked pretty well. Now that by nature leaves the image more blurry. Next I run it through camera raw to eliminate the noise which works wonders. I ended up realizing that passing it through twice gave it a clean paint look. Although there is loss of details like the one you pointed out, that just seems to be the trade off. It literally comes down to a little less detail but a super clean look or a little more detail and a grittier digital look. If the images I had to work with did not start off with the scanner distortions I would not need to go through those steps. Unfortunately this is as good as it's going to get on my end based on the art provided but at the end of the day we are talking about zooming in here at 300%+ and focusing in on tiny details that were already a little hard to make out on the boxes to begin with and will be the same case when a poster is printed. I hope this explanation helps to clear up why they look the way they do. If anyone else though is interested in giving it a try I would be more than happy to supply them with the scans I have received. Thanks guys! HCH

Hey Bowz that's really exciting to see the first documented poster has been printed!! Also sorry for the pixel issue it has been corrected now the new version has been uploaded to the site. I am just happy to see you were able to address the issue before you had it printed! Looks Great! I will be ordering myself one of these beauties as well at some point and I'm glad to hear it came out nicely :) Frede I agree with you on the black box as well. Although at the same time I want to make sure we can have all the SQ versions available for anyone who wants their favorite version of the games on their wall to give them that ever so warm and gooey, yet clean Space Questy feeling. Excellent Tip tomimt! I'll go back and run that filter over the working files. I honestly left that in there because I couldn't figure that out but this is great! I tested it out on one of the high rez jpegs and it was a very effective deduction in the "moire" noise. I'll repost an update later when I get those resolved and PCJ confirms they have been switched out. Thanks again! HCH

Excellent e1ven! that would be outstanding! I do have one other request as well if you wouldn't mind... The SQ4 box art, can you remove the sticker off Vohals shoulder in the bottom left corner? If there's one there that is going to be a very troublesome area to recreate. If not I will do my best to repair that area. Just trying to see if I can keep these posters as close to the original art as possible. Other than that I'll keep plugging away at SQ1 and I'll be looking forward to your next batch of Space quest box art! Thanks again e1ven! HCH

Hey every one I still need your HELP! I am currently working on getting another poster complete and this is the last super hi rez image I have to work with. Below is a graphic of my progress thus far. If anyone out there could get me SQ1VGA, SQ4, SQ5, SQ6 this would be a huge help in the effort to finally get Space Quest Posters on to the halls and walls in the true fanboys domains across the globe! If you can help please supply a 600 dpi scan of your box art. If you are supplying the SQ4 box art please see that you can remove the sticker off Vohals shoulder in the bottom left corner. And please remember to make sure the art is completely touching the glass as to ensure there are no blurry areas since that will render the scan useless. I am good but not that good ;) Once again thanks in advance and god speed! HCH
