  1. On the gold ball and the frog thing... It's not random or illogical, per se: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Frog_Prince Most of King's Quest is rooted in fairy tale.
  2. Wow, awesome. They have most of the good stuff, too. Only problem is there's no sound, and the in-browser emulation is kinda sluggish. Also, Shadow of Yserbius crashed ASAP, lol.
  3. Any loyal listener to the SQH podcast has known about a lot of this for weeks, lol. Which isn't to say that the SQH podcast is a replacement for the Kickstarter page, but maybe Pope should be issuing written TLDL (didn't listen) summaries of his contributions to the podcast...?
  4. Unfortunately, I have neither the technical skills not the time for a real fan project :) All I can provide is Likes on the forum and YouTube!! As an obnoxiously conservative adventure game fan, I definitely want the game to remain non-actiony wherever possible. But it's hard to imagine all the different wandering baddies in this area working without some kind of stealth mechanic... You need Sequel Police, a zombie, a droid, a bunny... Maybe it'd work if you added a strong fog that limited the view horizon?
  5. Looks good! Is it going to be a stealth game with cover mechanics once you put the Sequel Police in? ;)
  6. Fate of Atlantis is the one game I never gave a fair shake. I liked the intro sequence, but I didn't really enjoy the overall atmosphere. The Last Crusade was pretty neat for a while, but I hated the Nazi castle with all the fights -- ironic, I suppose, because it's basically just an arcade sequence. I couldn't get through the Nazi castle without losing... Full Throttle I did finish, and it's ok, despite being easy/on-rails. My biggest problem with it is it seemed to want to be a cartoon rather than a game.
  7. IMPORTANT EXCEPTIONS: Maniac Mansion, Zac, The Dig, sorta Sam & Max (but only because of the license).
  8. Where's the fun in that? ;) Nah, I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I have never found any LucasArts games outside of Monkey Island to be much fun. It always feels like you might as well watch a TV show than play one of them. I've started DOTT about 5 times over the years, but I always get bored to tears after 30 minutes or so :(
  9. To the extent that Double Fine's documentary episodes can be considered updates, I think it's a good example of a Kickstarter that will probably be remembered for the updates more than for the actual game (which is nothing special so far). ;)
  10. A new time-ripping adventure sounds good :) Not enough time-travel games. And the great ones that do exist get knocked by that DOS Nostalgia guy...
  11. -500 points for referencing a Lucas game ;) I dunno, why can't it just be part of the game? Maybe there should be a way for action fans to skip all the puzzles / plot... Interesting intersection I just realized: many Lucas games have arcade sequences. FT has a Road Rash rip-off minigame, S&M has wack-a-rat, both Indy games have fighting... I couldn't sit through DOTT or Grim, so I dunno if they had action elements.
  12. It's funny, because I've never been worried about the project once. I guess that's what happens when you have better things to do than post angsty comments on the Kickstarter page. It's pretty obvious that all these comeback-kids didn't really know what they were getting into. The Coles and the Guys are obviously not the best project- and money-managers. Their projects are obviously not going to plan, and they obviously don't really have a really clear or professional plan. Whatever. Unless you mortgaged your house and wife and testicles on this, I think was worth the risk. Worst thing you might have done is give another chance at glory to the people who gave you so much fun as a kid. Not such a bad way to spend some leftover cash.
  13. I think most of these games -- probably including the Space Quest series -- are way more fun in retrospect / replays. Having been through the experience, it was pretty great. Going through it for the first time? Eh.
  14. The game that MusicallyInspired described sounds like a King's Quest worth playing. I'm a little disappointed in the way Graham looks (I preferred the fantasy-novel-cover-art look of the original King's Quest games), but if the gameplay tends more toward adventure than action, I'm interested.
  15. Only problem is they have zero idea what the game is actually like yet, lol.
  16. So in your world, is it impossible to die during the skimmer sequence?
  17. From a dollars perspective, I think everybody can understand using the name for a non-adventure game. The King's Quest name takes a boring, generic game by a random studio of nobodies and puts both on the map. It draws undue attention and interest to what would otherwise be a minor product. King's Quest isn't even a very original setting or lore in the first place. It's the most generic of generic European-fairy-tale fantasy. The sole reason for appropriating the brand to create any random "modern" game is advertising. But I think real grognards ought to be upset anyway. The idea is founded on a fundamental disrespect for the license: "We're not going to do anything meaningful with the license anyway, so let's go ahead and use it to boost your random title." No, the only way you'll get the kinds of games you actually want is to say that you don't want a platformer. If you don't really want a new King's Quest that's actually an adventure game, then obviously you can slap Activision on the back for "breathing new life into the license." But really, we got more out of King's Quest when the corporate owners were ignoring it: that's when we got THREE beautiful remakes and other beautiful adventure game riffs on the license. We wouldn't have gotten any of that if Activision were busy milking the name to create a "new, modern brand" of platformers.
  18. I agree that it looks awesome! They keep saying on Twitter that "it's definitely an adventure game!!" But I'm not really convinced they mean "an adventure game with inventory puzzles consistent with King's Quests 1-7." And if it's not that type of adventure, what's the point...?
  19. Did you guys see the King's Quest trailer? http://blog.theoddgentlemen.com/post/104464765209/kings-quest-trailer-debut-at-the-game-awards-we Looks bizarrely action-focused and very much like a platformer to me. Hope it was just a misleading trailer.
  20. Wow, I never realized there were all those amazing SCI fan games out there already... I'd only played the AGI ones... Some of those could easily be Sierra products, damn.
  21. Nothing's to stop any contributor from using the AGI or SCI engines :) Honestly, I'd probably be more interested in making an SCI contribution than an AGS contribution...
  22. Well, we've seen Roger in 3 full-fledged games since 2012, but new content is always exciting ;) I think you're a very good modeler!
  23. This is awesome! I've always wanted an excuse for messing around with AGS.
  24. I'm talking to Jimmy TwoBucks. In response to: "In general, I like to avoid things like arcade sequences, things where there is a timer, and dead ends. So would those earlier King's Quests be too frustrating for someone like me?"
