It's official: The Two Guys from Andromeda are back
pcj replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
So you're proposing merging the SQN content into a new, revitalized VBC? That'd be cool. (An SQN update would be cool too, but yeah that could be a lot of work to a site you probably might not be able to maintain) -

Grabbed it. I've pointed it to the current host and gladly transfer it to Jess/whomever when/if we get to that. -

Up to Jess IMO, it's his site to let go of or pursue as he wishes. (But a better URL to get there would be nice) Ideally, I'd like to switch over the entire site to some sort of content-management software (Wordpress?), and have easy blog-style updating (with multiple authors?) for the latest news. It turns out, however, that my HTML and design skills have suffered serious atrophy in the past few years. You should have seen me struggling this morning to recall how to add a title to webpage. Drupal is also pretty nice. -

Nice. This is crazy. I can definitely see the world ending this year. -
Speaking of which, Mark Crowe is on Twitter now.

Yeap. Forums lend themselves to a conversational organization (which can be easily linked to and found later) which, IMO, Facebook and Twitter both don't handle well. The JT works fine for us talking *about* it, but I suppose it's not all-inclusive of all SQ fans/those interested in their new project (though probably close) whereas official forums would probably allow fans to discuss the project more directly. Obviously probably a bit early to be thinking about stuff like this. I'm just geeking out...slightly. -

I wonder if they're going to have official forums.... -

So is anyone else getting the impression from the narrator auditions video that Gary Owens will be on as narrator for the new game? Or am I reading too much into it? -

I was kind of under the impression that you were the one who closed it... -

Thank you sir, I'll add the VSB Mac version to the official list and make sure Chris knows about Incinerations. (Since I'm uploading the VSB Mac Version to the official server, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if any future edits are made - and hopefully I can talk you into doing the same for when we release the voiced version). P.S. - For VSB, it was always our hope (and intention) to figure out a way to get it running on Mac - but none of us have a Mac to experiment on so we'd have to depend on people like you to volunteer it - so thank you for that.

You were thinking it was 2009.

Yeah...we forgot to make Vohaul a greedy oil tycoon who is getting rid of the Furkunz for a quick buck. (Although, making the Furkunz mine his detonite is pretty close I guess)
-
In summary: The author of the Space Quest Companion is bonkers and nothing in it has any effect on established SQ Canon, and It doesn't really matter what color Vohaul is.

(If we move much more forward with this idea it should probably be split into its own topic) I think that if we design the overall plot first, then generate the rooms/characters/objects/etc for that, then individually work the design of the in-depth stuff around those assets (not creating a long cycle of work for animators and writers both) it should go faster. Especially if/since many character animations could be re-used. And yes, more than an hour would be needed to create a game of any redeeming quality which ends up with a play-length of longer than half an hour, even with the assets ready to go.
-
I was speaking more to the point that shorter games within a single plot arc should try to avoid using all of the same plot points. Re-use of elements within SQ as a whole is inevitable - right now I can't think of a type of locale Roger hasn't visited, and some references to previous games are important to establish some semblance of a cohesive universe.
-
I like Troels' idea in theory, but indeed the problem is execution. If each person has sole writing power for each section of the game within the overall plot construct for the mini-series, that would probably be better than writing the whole thing by committee, but quality control would be needed for a consistent feel (if that is what is desired). And as Chris mentioned, we'd probably want some confines so Roger doesn't save the universe every point along the way or keep visiting Monolith Burger. I'm probably slightly less burnt-out than Chris at the moment but would like to see a bit more definition to the idea before committing to anything. Making even a quality 30-minute game is a whole different process than just writing a short story (nothing wrong with short stories, more stuff just goes into creating a game).

They still have lives. I feel that they've probably moved on, like many in the community. Being on Twitter isn't necessarily an open invitation to bug them about stuff they did decades ago. Not sure I would go for that either. On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to toss an appreciative comment their way once in awhile. Just my thoughts here.

Speaking of which, we've released some discussions from various stages in development. Should be quite entertaining/informative. :)

No, it was actually closer to what olzen said.
