  1. We might prepare a fastforward of the intro you guys can talk over. Or Fred could perform an abridged version with sock puppets. ;) Nah, just kidding. The long intro will probably work very well as a "hi, guys" getting-to-know-you period as well as explaining the grand plan for all four commentaries.
  2. That's some good points there, Ferde. Yeah, better to stick with "we're playing this game now and it'll take however damn long it's going to take." Of course, that'll mean that we probably won't get around to playing SQ2VGA until sometime in the fall or winter. So let's TRY to contain each playthrough to 2 x 4 hrs.
  3. I'm sorry I'm not checking this more often. That was fun, chatting with PCJ and Brandon in my underwear last night, just before bed. ;) If anyone is up for an impromptu Hangout with no topic tonight, I'm game. (I promise, pants stay on.) Anyway, back on topic: I'm not sure I can "get away" with doing two 4 hr sessions back to back. It's not just the family life I'm wondering about, but also my own sanity. ;) I realize the games are big, but if I've got the actual designers sitting next to me, helping me whenever I get stuck, don't you think it's possible to breeze through the games in 4 hrs? I'll be concentrating on the games and you guys'll be doing the talking for the most part, anyway.
  4. Yeah, we'd need PCJ in there. (And I see my revisionist attempts at covering up my confusion was unsuccessful. ;) ) How about the 9th, then? Good ol' lazy Sunday?
  5. Man, typing that previous comment from my phone was a real bitch. ;) Let me try that again from an actual keyboard. I'm fine with firing up the commentary caboose any time you have free time. If we go by June 8 as a starting point, we could try to do one on the weekends from then on. I KNOW we won't be able to do one every weekend, but now that we have an order to go by (I didn't hear any complaints?), we can try to work out what weekends we need to clear out after June 8. Does that make any sense at all? And if it does, does it sound cool to you?
  6. June 8 works for me as a date for the VSB commentary. As for length, I didn't plan on meticulously going through every scene in the games. People have Let's Play's and their own damn free time for that. I want to breeze through the games, but stop and smell the roses whenever the mood strikes us. I don't think we should concern ourselves with trying to cover everything there possibly is to cover, 'cos, er, it's just not possible. And let's leave something in there for future generations to discover as well. ;)
  7. Yeah, let's talk about how cool Space Quest was. That's a novel idea. :)
  8. Well, I'm still up for the Hangout in an hour or so. After careful consideration (i.e. having a nap, waking up and then thinking it), I think we should just have a casual Hangout. Any theme is the theme you want. I'll probably fire up a Space Quest game after showing you my lame game collection I just fished out of the basement yesterday. Sound cool to you? We could title this one "Shoot the Shit." No, on second thought ... ;)
  9. Right. Well, let's give it a shot. I found a box of old game discs yesterday. :) My laptop doesn't actually have a CD drive, but should be fun nonetheless.
  10. Don't worry, there will be no mountain climbing of any kind in this Hangout. ;)
  11. How does this look for you guys tomorrow? http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Space+Quest+Superfan+Hangout%3A+Other+Sierra+Favorites&iso=20130511T20&p1=69&ah=4
  12. That's awesome, guys! Really happy you're on board with the idea. :) I see what Chris is saying about VSB. And I realize there will be quite the overlap between the VSB and Incinerations commentaries. You can fight amongst yourselves who wants to show up for which commentary -- I'm all for the relaxed atmosphere; meaning, for instance, Blackthorne could sit in on the Incinerations commentary if he wanted to, just as long as we remember what game is in focus. ;) As for the nitty-gritty: Really, the idea came from me just wanting to play these games again. So I'm thinking, I'll be hosting the Hangout and playing the actual games (start to finish), but it's really you guys I want to hear from. So I won't be mouthing off all the time, like I usually do in Hangouts. Actually, it's kind of like a "commentary /slash/ guide the idiot through my game" situation :) which will give you plenty of opportunity to comment. And also the trick is to get me through the game in 4 hours or less (which is the limit on the YouTube stream). Hope that all sounds good to you. As for when, well ... here's my dream playlist. Depending on what weekend the VSB guys are free, we can sort of figure out when the rest of you need to think about clearing schedules. ;) 1. Vohaul Strikes Back 2. Space Quest: Incinerations 3. Space Quest II VGA 4. Pledge Quest I & II (I'm thinking the Pledge Quest games are just the right ones to finish off on. Looking forward to the future and all that. Plus, maybe we can get The Pope to show up for it.)
  13. I had one of my crazy ideas today. Hearing The Two Guys comment on each of the original Space Quest games was a fun thrill. However, today it dawned on me that it had been over a year since I played "The Big Three", i.e. the three Space Quest fan games that came out around the start of 2012 - Space Quest: Incinerations, Vohaul Strikes Back and Space Quest II VGA. In fact, I only played the two first as betas and, yeah, I've taken SQ2VGA for a spin around the block a few times, but not in one solid stretch. Not to mention the two Pledge Quest games. So maybe you've already guessed what I had in mind. Instead of just playing them again by myself, I thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to make a public ass of myself again. And I'd always loved to pick the brains of the wonderful people who made them. I was thinking of maybe firing up a trio of Google Hangouts at selected times and inviting the clever, creative minds of the fan games in to join me on a play-through commentary. Chris Ushko (and whoever wants to butt in) for Incinerations; Frederik Olsen and PCJ (and whoever wants to butt in) for VSB; Blackthorne (and whoever wants to butt in) for SQ2VGA. I'm just mentioning these people because they've been in Hangouts before. Oh yeah, and while we're at it, why not take a marathon stroll through Pledge Quest I and II with DecafJedi and Akril? Could be fun. Only question is, of course, would they be up for it? Consider this an open-letter invitation. I'm thinking of weekends. Weekends are good. Personally, I'd really like to start with Incinerations. It's the one that's been the longest. Chris, when's good for you? Huh? Huh? ;) Edit: We would, of course, be live-streaming these babies on YouTube for the world to see and laugh at.
  14. Good, let's try for Saturday. So far, it's you and me. Bit short notice for most people, I would imagine. Not that I would mind just hanging out with you. In which case we should probably put the theme off until next time. ;)
  15. Actually, I neglected to take into account that Friday is no good for me. How's your Saturdays look?
  16. I have a 9-5 job as well, but I neglected to take into account that Friday technically isn't a day off; it's just sandwiched between two days off, so the lads at my company just let me have a long weekend. What would be good for you, Sam, on a Friday? Just for reference.
  17. Let's do the Sierra favorites thing as the official Hangout; then we can do an impromptu SQ thing if the mood and/or opportunity strikes us. :) How's everyone's Friday look? In Denmarkian terms, that's Friday evening.
  18. Also, I may be completely out of line, but maybe we could squeeze in two Hangouts. Having another go at "Other Sierra favorites" is all well and good, but I have an itching to play some goddamn Space Quest. ;)
  19. Sorry for being absent of late. But serendipity may be on our side: This coming week, I have Thursday and Friday off, as well as the weekend. It would be almost criminal of us not to capitalize on this unique opportunity. So -- anyone up for a Hangout this coming Thursday, Friday or Saturday?
  20. My computer stuttered and spat its way through the FMV sequences, but for the longest time I remained blissfully unaware of the Sickbay bug.
  21. Thanks -- you guys were great. Even though I haven't got a stable system set up yet, I just couldn't sit on this one anymore.
  22. They were Windows 3.1 games made with Klik-n-Play, I think. DatEngineer may be right; you'll have to go back to emulation. Well, you could just start up DosBox and install Windows 3.1 on your computer. :)
  23. Well, in that case, I hate it. ;)
  24. How they missed that Sickbay error message in testing, I'll never know. Surely they must have had fast computers in the Sierra testing labs back in 1996.
  25. Hey, guys. Happy Easter. It's Space Quest Historian time. Yes, with a new intro lovingly rendered by the always amazing Christian Giegerich (the announcer may sound familiar, but don't worry, he's harmless). And some invaluable help from Michael Smith (SokarsStudio) for rendering the video -- apparently, the sheer amount of awesome generated by my special guest left my computer incapable of rendering it. Anyway, enjoy. And sorry for the long, long, long-ass wait. (The guest appearances were filmed back in November/December!) http-~~-//youtu.be/AlHXLJHBO8s Big thanks to Colin Davis, PCJ and you-know-who for being great sports. :) So, episode 2? Umm ... let me think about that ...
