Oh, no, no. I'm glad you're having fun finding the secret content. There are a lot of newcomers to this board that may not know about those, so I'm glad you posted them.

I think we've found them all -- people have looked through the assets of the game and the only unused asset is the screenshot MI showed. The secret time code to SQ3 always cracks me up, though. :)

Funniest thing that ever happened while playing Space Quest
Troels Pleimert replied to BlockMaster's topic in Starcon Academy
Probably getting chased around Vohaul's asteroid by that kissy alien with my childhood friend. We were 6 or 7 at the time, playing the game with a walkthrough (we could barely speak English at the time), so we knew what to do. But we still panicked every time that thing came out of its cage and drove each other into a frenzy.- 19 replies

Space Quest Lego UPDATE : Galaxy Galleria

Roger kicking the Monochrome Boys's bikes complex scene by MaitreDesBlocs, on Flickr Aaaaah, ha ha ha ha! That's great! I love Roger's shit-eating grin as he runs from the biker. :) -
Tired reiteration being my specialty, I'd like to swing for SQ2, if I may. Sure, it's not the most gripping or thrilling of the series, but I've warmed on it quite a bit recently. If I may just, in the spirit of aforementioned tired reiteration, highlight the almost poetic ending: Roger, having saved the universe once again, is finally allowed to go full circle from when he woke up in SQ1 and go back to sleep (just in the cryo-chamber, rather than a broomcloset).

SQ5 Space Bar Music Easter Egg
Troels Pleimert replied to MusicallyInspired's topic in Starcon Academy
It would be quite the pleasant shrooms-soundtrack, actually. :) And it was my friend's couch, actually. It had a very pleasant-looking crosshatch pattern that gently undulated when you stared at it. Nothing creepy; nothing morphing or changing shapes. Just little tiny, very gentle movements of patterns. -
Truth: Sierra changed Radio Shock to Hz So Good of their own free will because they didn't want a lawsuit. Truth: No women's organizations ever sued or complained over the Latex Babes. Mark was kind of disappointed, actually. Truth: They actually did get in trouble for using the Eveready/Energizer/Duracell bunny in SQ4, because, apparently, the bunny is owned by one company overseas and another company domestically (in U.S.). It was settled out of court, though, so no lawsuit. Truth: ZZ-Top actually found out about their appearance, years after the release of the game, and threatened to sue (ironic having no sense of humor and sporting beards like that, eh?). Again, settled out of court. Truth: I'm a jerk. Truth: So is Fred. Truth: Space Quest fans are awesome. Truth: My foot itches.

If I knew even the slightest thing about Minecraft apart from the videos I've seen on-line and if had the time, I'd be all over that sucker. Sadly, both shortcomings apply.

Space Quest Lego UPDATE : Galaxy Galleria

Ooh, ooh. Roger getting kicked out of the Keronian bar by the Monochrome Boys, then knocking their bikes over. :D My favorite punk-rock / "fuck you guys" moment in any of the games. -

Good topic, man. :) Hoo boy, there are a lot ... Off the top of my head, the one that springs to mind is, for some reason, "The change machine looks more like a time machine than a time machine looks like a time machine (for a change!)" But, oh, there are so, so many good ones ...

My next jaunt is going to be through Agustin Cordes' "Scratches." I've been talking to the guy for ages on Twitter, and knew that he is a much-respected horror game designer, but I've never actually played his game. My shame brings me to rectify this. I just gotta find time to light a few candles, dim all the lights and play that sucker loud on my tv.

Huh ... I actually found SQ1 harder. There's a lot of insta-deaths in SQ2, sure, but there's only one crashed shuttle glass shard. ;)

SQ5 Space Bar Music Easter Egg
Troels Pleimert replied to MusicallyInspired's topic in Starcon Academy
I like how it "reminded" you of what a shrooms trip "must be like" ... how can it remind you of something unspecific in your imagination? :) I've been on shrooms. I'd love to kick back and listen to the Spacebar music all evening on shrooms, but it wouldn't sound any different. The couch might bubble and undulate a bit, though. -
Well, he is under a lot of pressure to, uh, not get killed. ;) I've forgotten more important things than money in more stupid places than the broomcloset of an evil software conglomerate. So, I'm thinking, pressure. In SQ4, when you buy a new uniform at the Big & Tall store, the narrator says, "You change your clothes, not forgetting the items in your pocket. You never know when you'll need 'em." So at least Roger's learned from his mistakes. ;) Wait, what? Dude's a chick magnet. For reasons I can't fathom, sure, but the evidence is all there: Beatrice will stick with him through thick and thin, and he still somehow ends up partying with a latex-clad babe from Estros somewhere down the line.

Yeah, I liked* prefer copy protection that feels seamlessly integrated into the game. That's why SQ5, in my mind, somehow has a better scheme than SQ4, even though they're the exact same thing. Because in SQ5, you needed the codes every time you wanted to go somewhere, whereas in SQ4 it's only the first time pod that for some reason has a security system. So, in SQ5, it feels integral to the story -- whereas in SQ4, it was just tacked on. I kind of like creative modern copy protection gimmicks, too. Anyone heard of the giant invincible red scorpion in Serious Sam III? Or the guns that shoot only chickens in one of the Far Cry games? It's sort of the same principle, wherein the game will let you get a taste of what you could get if you paid for it -- but it won't let you get to the end (or, really, anywhere). * Edited, because, hell, I don't fucking like copy protection. I hate it. But if you must have it, at least be creative about it. ;)

What roles are those? (I know you have a spreadsheet. No, I can't be bothered to go lo-- okay, I could.) I'll volunteer for a couple of additional incidental voices. I'd love to be one of the computers. Since the different computers use different voices, I could just do one of them. In fact, I'd let you pick which computer I should be. I'd also love to do Private Simians; he sounds like a fun weakling. ;) Have you thought of getting Gareth Millward to do both of the bird heads? He's got that authentic Britishness about him, being British and all, so he could do the stupid head in a chavvy accent and the clever head in a posh accent. And it would actually sound British. (Edit: Of course, I meant I'd send you auditions for those voices -- of course I don't expect to be just put in the game because I said I'd do it. ;) )- 39 replies

If PCJ requests anything other than "SpaceVenture intern," I will cry in my sleep. -
I think maybe he means that asinine copy protection that was on the disk version. It was omitted from the CD version, which is only a shame because the music that played during it was actually pretty cool.

SQ5 Space Bar Music Easter Egg

That it would. I wonder how hard it would be to track Stevens and Clarke down. I doubt Mark would still know where they hang out. Does anyone have any friends in what used to be Dynamix? -
Try uploading them to imgur.com and just link to them in your post.
