Space Quest Historian Podcast - The Official Thread
Thanks for the suggestion. I really want the bits to be at least tangentially related to Space Quest or SpaceVenture. Serena's bit was centered around the SpaceVenture delay. But bringing up other games as examples is always welcome, as both she did in her bit and I did when discussing (throaty voice) FEAR.

Space Quest beta versions
It really sucks, though, because the earlier versions are the ones with the fun stuff in it; like the Ken Williams easter egg in SQ1.

New QfG style game in SCI
Yeah, all right. I GUESS you've got a good POINT. (sulks)

Someone on the Space Quest Facebook group did a dual-screen wallpaper of Fester's World o'Wonders.

SQ3 wasn't too shabby, either. ;)

New Droid
One of the weirder TNG episodes. They spent the majority of the latter seasons fucking with people's heads.

Well, he said it was named after Springfield, Oregon. He didn't say they lived there ... ;)

Bird and stuff in Space Quest III?
The price thing: I think one of the Two Guys says that if you leave the game alone for too long after springing them from the jello. Or maybe if you talk to them. Sure, I could check, but I'm lazy. ;)

Bird and stuff in Space Quest III?
Best guess: it refers to the Aluminum Mallard in the garbage freighter; "bird" being slang for airborne vessel.

Well, in that case, I'll defer my speculation in favor of people who actually did their research. Carry on. ;)

Oh, great, NOW you tell me. ;) I've actually been doing it old-school so far -- marking lines and sfx in Audacity and exporting them as individual samples. 'Cos I'm rigid and inflexible that way. That stone-age method only works with SQ4, though, since the audio in that game is uncompressed. If you load up SQ6's audio file, you just get a frightful burst of noise.

The mighty buckazoid
Well, there's the ATM, so you could perhaps argue that any larger transfer amounts are handled digitally and the coins are just left-over chump change froma nostalgic era? Okay, yeah, the real reason is that the Two Guys just didn't bother doing more than one inventory item for "moneys," then decided to have a little fun at the admittedly absurd prospect of Roger suddenly carrying around 1,999 buckazoid coins. (Also, off topic, but I thought the joke about Springfield's home state was that it couldn't possibly be any single one of the United States? :) The movie makes a crack about this when Flanders shows Bart the adjoining state lines.)

Bolt RIley - A Reggae Adventure (by Quest for Glory designers)
It's a great concept made all the sweeter by the (I'm assuming baked) presence of Lori & Corey Cole. And yes, this is the Adventure Mob who were supposed to have done LSL1:R.

Er, I thought Mark Crowe wrote the tunes for SQ2 as well? That's just what I thought; if Al told you otherwise, I'm sure it's true.

OH YEAH! I had completely forgotten about that! I remember finding that thing back in the old days when I was 17 years old and poking around the RESOURCE.AUD file with CoolEdit, wondering where that weird fucing line would actually crop up in the game. It had completely slipped my memory -- thanks so much for reminding me. :) That'd be a fun sample for the podcast. ;)

Stellar vs. Beatrice
Remember, Bea's personality was almost exclusively developed by Mark Crowe and David Selle for SQ5, without the input of Scott Murphy. The only thing we see of Beatrice in any of the Two Guys' games is the hologram at the end of SQ4. So we don't know if Bea was always supposed to be this take-no-bullshit strong woman type (although, personally, I see that as a great fit for someone like Roger). But if we take Bea's character from SQ5 (and in subsequent fan games) as read, then I'm actually with Bea. Roger's a complete fuck-up when she first meets him; he does come through for her and rescue her from the mutant pukoids, but, really, how is that a basis for any relationship? And once they return to StarCon, he's immediately busted back down to janitor and is back to being a fuck-up. Basically, it's the clichéd end line from the movie Speed: "I've heard relationships based on intense experiences never work." Apart from rescuing her (and doing so only because he's been told that this is his wife-to-be!), Roger hasn't really done anything to connect with her on an emotional level. At least, not from what we've seen. We've basically never seen them be "boyfriend/girlfriend," is what I'm saying. And something tells me that Roger's scatterbrained and clumsy approach to life, coupled with his supreme laziness, doesn't necessarily make him good boyfriend-material when there isn't a life-threatening danger around for him to foil. So that's one of the reasons I was so impressed with the way Chris Ushko handled the love triangle in Incinerations and also why I don't think Bea is "a bitch" (as many have accused her of) at all. I think she's behaving very rationally and, frankly, I understand her. She's not a mind reader; she doesn't know Roger's feelings, and he's not exactly adept at displaying them (they tend to come out wrong, if they come out at all). Welp. My two buckazoids there.

ever wish Roger had told Quirk to shove it?
Well, they did the gentlemanly thing and played Battle Cruiser for dominance instead.
