  1. KS appoved. Launcing 1/22.
  2. Hi all. The countdown has begun. I've submitted everything to Kickstarter and am awaiting their approval. I wanted to launch on 1/21/13 there were a few delays in getting everything lined up properly. If funded, I will be creating all new recordings of music I created over the course of my game composing career 1989-1996. But to get started, I'd like to share the various links for the project. My blog for this Kickstarter project is at www.kenspace.com My Twitter handle is @mrkenallen The Twitter hashtag for this project is #KSDome The Facebook page is www.facebook.com/UnderTheHalfdome (shortened to http://goo.gl/ES2Dd for Twitter purposes) And on Google Plus, http://goo.gl/jQe0i Please visit the project page on whichever of these two social networks is you home. Please SHARE the page URLs in your feed. SHARE spreads the word. LIKE and +1 just keeps YOU updated. When KS approves the project, I'll announce it in these awesome forums. Ken "your music pal" Allen

  5. Heard back from Activision. They hinted at the possibility of re-releasing parts the old catalog, so, now the question is, is there interest in an "Inspired By" album that is "close enough"?
  6. There's a common technique in Hollywood of using a virtual orchestra and then adding a small number of live musicians. So I am considering this as an option. Also might have guest musicians from the Sierra fan base perform along with me. Just thinking out loud Music Pal
  7. Allistar Brimble's Kickstarter project got me thinking: http://www.kickstart...the-amiga-works Is there any interest for a freshly produced and updated album of music I created for games? If so, would you fund it on Kickstarter? Just in the feeler stage. I've not yet made a choice. Thanks Ken "Your Music Pal" Allen
  8. I'm not 100% sure. Possibly other funding options...
  9. Hey All I've been asked to compose the soundtrack for the upcoming film, PWNED, which is being funded on Kickstarter. If you'd like to see this film get made, go here and pledge. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1848546141/pwned-the-ultimate-geek-anthem-film Your Music Pal Ken
  10. Hi Friends Ken "Your Music Pal" Allen here. If you missed it, Ken and Roberta Williams made a surprise appearance in the chat room for the livecast of the Director's Commentary SQ3 playthrough. When the video is posted, it will be here:http://www.twitch.tv/andromedaguys/ ...and more details soon to be posted here: http://www.tqakick.com/ Ken
  11. A pledge of $32k would make it happen... Mr Ward?
  12. Here are a few suggestions. Update your Facebook page or Google+ every time something new is released. Use a Guys From Andromeda wallpaper as your timeline cover, and if you're brave enough, use part of the image featuring the belt buckles for your portrait. Get on your Twitter account, follow the Two Guys, and then re-tweet each update. Log into your YouTube account, Subscribe to the Guys From Andromeda channel, Like each video, create a playlist of all their videos for your channel, and update the playlist every time a new video is released. Go to the iTunes store, subscribe to the Guys From Andromeda podcasts, and click the Share On Twitter and Share On Facebook links next to your favorite podcast. Do it again each time a new podcast is released. Use the iTunes PING feature If your employer's or school's email service has a mailing list for off topic threads, use it to promote the 2GA Kickstarter. If your company uses Yammer, do the same. If you are a member of other forums and boards, find the thread for the off topic threads and start a topic about the 2GA Kickstarter. Go to THIS thread, visit every link, post comments, beg the readers to pledge. Promote, Promote, Promote. We gotta help make this happen! Ken "your music pal" Allen
  13. So what if we held a Sierra-con at Yosemite HS?
  14. Hey SQ friends, So I'm setting up a new home studio around Cubase. I would like your recommendations for the best VST libraries out there. My goal is to bring the awesomeness of the SQ4 soundtrack into the 21st century. I already have the Garritan Personal Orchestra as well as LASS and Edriol's Orchestral. Honestly, if this is the this is at best that's out there? Meh. But, you musician working stiffs, you know what's best. What do you recommend? As always, your music pal, Ken Allen
  15. A Sierra-con might be fun.
  16. Plus it's just best to move on and look forward.
  17. I was at the Star Trek Experience when it was hosted at the Las Vegas Hilton. The casino area around the STE was called Space Quest and you could buy merchandise that bore the Las Vegas Hilton Space Quest logo. I bought a mug and sent it to Mark. Hopefully, he still has it. Troels is right. It's best to stay away from stuff that can get you sued. Also market-wise, it may be better to create a new IP anyway. The SQ brand has a bit of baggage and fans have certain expectations for any products that bear the name. In addition, historically, sequels tend to have an attach rate of 70%, which means if episode 1 had $1,000,000 worth of unit sales, a sequel would only generate $700,000. There are execptions, but only a magical few. There is also the unknown risk of what Activision plans to do with the brand. If they make a new game under the brand and it does not live up to the awesomeness of the games by the two guys, a new SQ game by Mark and Scott would have an uphill battle. In this circumstance I think it's far better to use the marquis value of the creators' name and reputation to create a new IP. "From the creators of..." This is something they will always own. But this also comes with some risks, like for example, how many people know the whole two guys saga enough to want to buy their games. I think it's pretty high, but that's seat of the pants. Creating a new brand is easier if you know there is a pent up demand for it.
  18. Actually, I think my memory is a little off. I'm chatting with one of the other composers and we're sorting out who did what. I don't want to wrongly take credit. Stand by.
  19. OK, I've reached out to the other contributors to the music for the Descent soundtrack and I think I've identified the ones I composed. If someone with a clearer recollection than mine of "who did what" disputes my taking credit for these songs, please let me know. I do NOT want to take credit for your work. Kudos to Allistar Brimble for his awesome arrangements of the Descent soundtrack for the Mac version. Links below.
  20. Hey all, Paul did an awesome job with LSL Come Again. How cool is it that Al and Josh are gonna rock our world and tickle our Larry funnybone. How awesome is that!!!! As for me doing the music for SpaceVenture, let's get this baby funded first, then we can talk music. I just pledged at the level where I get a real buckazoid coin. You, dear fans, are more awesome than me. Show your love for the Two Guys! Make this happen! Make me stop using exclamation points!!!
  21. A voice parser would be genius. I endorse it.
  22. The game's correct title is Protostar. I may have mumbled in that part of the podcast. And I did misspeak. It was supposed to be a sequel to Starflight 3. See the Wikipedia article on Starflight 2 for confirmation. The producer at EA assigned to Starflight 3 didn't believe in our team and recommended to the EA honchos to terminate the deal. Tsunami went with Time Warner Interactive Group (or TWIG as we referred to them). TWIG was a new player in the computer game space and their marketing kinda reflected theat. They were not very effective in selling Protostar, which is a shame because I think Protostar was the best game released under the Tsunami label. Ken "Your Music Pal" Allen
  23. After leaving Sierra, I eventually landed at Tsunami Media and created music for all their games, one of which was Blue Force, an adventure game from Jim Walls, designer and creator of Sierra's Police Quest series. Here is a link to a playlist on my YouTube channel for the music for that game.
