Sq7.org is Back Online
Actually, this is a fun interesting exercise. A lot of the files for SQ7 are pretty hidden. ;) The last time I touched these was 4-5 years, and several computers ago, but I think I still have all the important ones. Ironically, the fact that we pulled/archived a lot of it to send to VU makes it easier to publish, even without their involvement.

Use tgakick.com to help promote the Kickstarter
Sure, I had seen his blog at http://martinkool.com/post/22706224644/how-i-brought-html5-to-the-space-quest-creators-kickstar, but I was hoping they might consider using the HTML5 solution for the actual game, not just the demos. It think it's the ultimate future for this sort of thing- Wrappers can be made for every machine if necessary, and it's a fast, powerful, and already deployed virtual machine. I'd strongly recommend it, anyway ;)

I'm curious- You're doing these demos in HTML5. Are you doing the actual game that way as well? That seems like a brilliant move, if so. Easy to go Cross-Platform. I'd love to hear more about what engine/etc you're using.

Sq7.org is Back Online
I'm happy to give them anything they want, but I suspect that them creating stuff on their own is half the fun. Besides, the Plot is still Josh's, I'm not posting that. He may find other uses for it, or something derived from it.

Collection Thread (Image Heavy)
I was never as big of a collector as some folk, mostly on a account of being poor. But these were the ones I pulled together. On the top, I have SQ1 EGA ( regular and cheesy version), SQ2 playable and shrinkwrapped, SQ3, the collection. Then SQ4, and a duplicate CD-only version I ended up with, SQ5, and the hardest one to get.. SQ6. SQ6 was by far the hardest SQ game for me, since I kept getting people sending me the CD only. I have a pile of dupes in the next row ;( I have the Austrailian 3 quest game collections. The 3 comics, and the companions. I also have two non SQ, SQ things- A DVD that happens to be named "Space Quest", and Roger Wilco beer.

Sq7.org is Back Online
PCJ- It should be up as soon as DNS propogates for you. If you don't see it, you could try adding 74.200.243.251 sq7.org to your etc hosts, but it's a bit of a work around. I can load it from everywhere I try.

Sq7.org is Back Online
Greetings, Space Denizens! In honor of the Two Guys Kickstarter, I'm re-launching SQ7.org. The website, that is, not the project. I'm going to Open the Kimono, and show you some of the sights, sounds, and smells of our SQ7. I'll be posting what we did, why, and hopefully encouraging you to go buy the SpaceVenture. We did a lot of really cool stuff, and it's getting a bit smelly in the back of the closet. So enjoy this trip through my hard drive, and the making of SQ7. -E "Post it before I accidentily delete it!" This post has been promoted to an article

How much money would you invest in Kickstarting the Two Guys?
jocolloman- LSL raised more than that, for a REMAKE. I think they'll be able to do it, if the fans pitch in.

KICKSTARTER IS LIVE!
I'm so glad this is launched. +Respect ;) That said, I think your reward tiers are a little broken. If you want Physical + Digital, you need to upgrade to the next level. Or, buy the Physical, and then a cheaper digital version, to make up for it. For example, if I want a Steam version of the game, and a version in a box, the cheapest option is to do two pledges, for $115 total, for Physical $100 tier, and a digital copy. You see the same thing at the $500 tier. If I want a physical copy, with the Let's Play, but also want a copy of the game on Steam, it's best to do two separate pledges? This seems like really weird breakdown ;) Am I missing something?

Brett Johnson SQ7 art
Not sure if this was already posted- I searched and didn't see it. You can see a lot of art from the failed Escape Factory SQ7 project, at http://www.brett3d.com/ld_adventure.html Remember, this was a game that was intentionally nothing like the SQ we knwo and love. They were asked explicitly not to play the older Space Quest games. Anyway, found it interesting.

Larry Remake announced
I have my reservations, but they're fighting the good fight. They were able to get the licenses, and they're trying. I'm for giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Larry Remake announced
Times are good. Let's hope the Kickstarter for Larry is funded ;) For SQ, from what I've heard, the current rightsholders are looking for $250K for the base rights to do a game, plus a royalty on each copy sold. Yoinks. That's crazy expensive, but not 100% impossible.

Larry Remake announced
http://mixnmojo.com/news/Leisure-Suit-L ... -announced Replay Games, which earlier this year licenced the rights to the Leisure Suit Larry games and re-released the first one on their website, has announced that they're working on a HD remake of this very game. Larry creator Al Lowe has joined the team and the plan is to continue making original adventures in 2012. If the remake proves successful they may also attempt to remake the rest of the series. When asked about Larry in today's world, Al said: “As a software salesman, I think Larry would feel right at home [in today's Internet age], and would stay current … at least with pornography.”

TellTale games to revive classic Sierra titles. KQ first.
I agree on the style.. The company is was founded by Ex-Lucasarts people, and LOVES Sam&Max and Monkey Island... But I think that the core of the Space Quest series is Humor, Story and Character. TellTale excels in those.

As am I. The key phrase is "The first will be King’s Quest. " TellTale is an amazing studio, and I'm terribly envious of them and their success. I have a great deal of admiration and respect for them, and I'm sure the game will be amazing. -CPD

New SQ7 beta thread
Our biggest problem with Sq7 was that Vivendi wanted full copyright assignment of the game to allow release. IIRC, that's the same deal they offered The KQ9 team. We had promised several people, mainly Josh, we'd never give it to them- We had several people work on the game under the promise that we wouldn't give over their work to anyone else. We made a lot of mistakes with SQ7. Most of them were my fault, but I think the core of the game was really fun. I'm sorry I didn't do better at getting it out there.. At this point, I'd want to redo a lot of stuff.. Some of the plot was a bit klunky- One of the puzzles in particular involved time warps through space, which is a really hard concept to bring across.. I was always in a tough position- The writers were often more experienced than I was, so pushing back was hard, and the artists were volunteering their time, and would resent it if I pushed back on trying to make the images fit the descriptions correctly. The engine was great for the early 2000s when it was conceived, but it's looking very dated compared to 2009-era games, such as Sam & Max, and Wallace and Gromit. They do 3d adventure games very well, and doing a lot of the stuff we discussed and had wanted to do. Honestly, I think that TellTale is a really great studio. I don't know if you've looked at their games, I love what they're doing, and would love to see them come out with a SQ game if we can't be the ones to do it. Colin "Stopping By" Davis

SQ4 Kerona Bar - Johnny B Goode?
Not being a musical scholar, I can't say with certainty, but I'd agree with Olzen- It's not the same song at all. That said, it's clearly influenced- I suspect that the writer of the audio pulled upon his mental collection of generic Rock and Roll songs, as well as listening to a few Key songs. Johnny was likely amoung these keys. -E "Reminiscent of, but not identical to"
