Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter update

A bit late, I suppose, but I updated the original post with Paul's rebuttal and added direct source links. -

Hehe, yes. Interestingly, I've had this song stuck in my head for a little while now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJgcH9PMtVA (The chorus goes, "I cannot spend more time listening to your lies..." - oddly apt, somehow.) -

Me too. The overly sappy video montage appeals to me a lot. ;) For a scoop, MAYBE we could get Jane to reprise her "the SQ series was a great inspiration to me - it helped define what I wanted to do with my games, and what I didn't want to do" line, only adding, "I hope the SpaceVenture fares better." ;) First of all, it would be a hilarious balance to all the over-sap. And second, the timing couldn't be better - it's a throwback to both GK1 and the SQ heydays. :) Except Jane is notoriously hard to get in front of a camera, it seems. -

Josh deactivating his Facebook page, as far as I know, had nothing to do with him leaving/being asked to leave Replay. It may have been related to it, but I got the feeling it was just him needing to wind down his on-line social life? (I also have no idea of the story surrounding his departure from Replay, either. I'm guessing that, in due time, the man himself -- or Trowe -- will let us know. Hopefully, they both will -- Josh for the honesty, and Trowe for the snidey, unintentionally funny, mostly-fictional side. ;) Sorry, that was mean. Back on my high horse.) Sounds like someone got busy with the ban-hammer. Unlikely, my friend, since he now believes that SQN is populated solely by trolls. Not troels'; trolls. ;) From his witty and insightful retort on Kickstarter: "So go troll on spacequest.net and gossip about me because honestly, I won't lose sleep over anything you guys have to say about me." He's right; I think he has more pressing things to lose sleep about, to be honest. -

I'm just glad in a way that this happened when it did, because it's showed me that there is still hardcore support for the game. Even though it may be late, it seems people are more willing to wait for a polished, finished product than to see something rushed getting pushed out there in the limelight and flop around for a bit. That's been one of the main concerns in the Andromedan bunker lately: that there would be a storm of negative or downright hostile backlash from fans from the coming announcement; the contents of which I think you've all pretty much guessed at this point (the game's late). From this rallying of support, it warms my heart greatly to see that that doesn't seem to be the case. At least not for this core group of supporters. :) -

I'm sorry for you guys who volunteered for the Larry remake who are now getting backlashed by Trowe. It really means a lot to know that you have the Guys' backs and that you would sacrifice your standings for speaking your minds. Tom, your post at the Kickstarter comments were a scary insight. I'm sorry it came to that. Intendent_S, I'm sorry to hear you got excommunicated for your troubles. DutchMagic, thank you for being awesome. -

Actually, maybe his appearance was timed just right. For all its incensing content, it's proven a good catalyst for gauging the true fans' reactions to the project status. From what I can gather, you still have faith that The Two Guys will deliver a game that will, by the very definition, deliver, instead of skimping on things to reach milestones. -

I'm so glad to hear people rallying for this and seeing through the bully tactics. And even though we have a right to be furious, I'm happy to see that we're also taking the high road on this. -

Good call, Fred. It's worth reiterating that there will be a grand Kickstarter update to shed light on the status of the project and what the difficulties have been on October 16th. That announcement/update was actually planned before Paul made his comment, so it's kind of annoying that he's accusing 2GFA of being secretive and sly and not giving out any information, which makes it seem like the update is a direct reaction to his criticism. It isn't. :) -
Hey, gang. Maybe you've seen this on the Kickstarter comments page; maybe you haven't. Here it is, in all its dubious glory: Source: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que/posts/615568?cursor=4596069#comment-4596068 If you're late to the party, meet Paul Trowe. He's the CEO of Replay, who did the Leisure Suit Larry remake. And he's taking a mighty big interest in what the Two Guys are doing, for reasons that we of course can only speculate about (but are really quite obvious when you think about it). It's no secret that the SpaceVenture project has had a rocky ride -- first with people sabotaging the Kickstarter funding itself, and now with difficulties in the programming department. That a programmer left because he "wasn't being paid," however, is pure speculation on Paul's part. This isn't the first time Paul Trowe has tried his best to sow distrust in Chris Pope as manager/producer of the SpaceVenture. The irony is that he's calling out for transparency when, as some of you Superfans already know, Pope and 2GFA were planning a big announcement on the 16th where everything would be revealed. What are your thoughts on this whole shebang? Update: Paul's response to the negative backlash: Source: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que/posts/615568?cursor=4620757#comment-4620756

Anyone interested in making an AGS based fangame?
Troels Pleimert replied to anonymous's topic in World O' Fan Wonders
Interesting. I have long wanted to jumpstart a SQ fan game repository. Maybe your framework could be added to that, as a sort of, "hey, here's a shell of a game. Go nuts." If you want help fleshing out a story idea, I think we can be of some assistance there, too. ;) -
No joke; that guy still gets my heart racing. One time, I was playing SQ4 at 2 in the morning and I clenched my buttocks so hard when he came at me, I peed a little.

Sorry for not checking in as often as I probably should. Mjomble's got a point. Let's look into what weekends in September would work for people. Maybe we should bank on doing VSB first. I still wanna save the Pledge Quest games for last; on account of being so darn adorable. ;)- 82 replies

Sorry, nothing to report yet. Blackthorne was just recently diagnosed with something horrible in his bone marrow, so he may be focusing on other things right now.- 82 replies

Hey, man. Glad to hear it! We like being called awesome. ;) Don't be shy if you have any questions or just want to shoot the breeze.
-
No, I meant "this sounds familiar" as in "this reminds me of that time Roger Wilco woke up in the janitor's closet aboard the Arcada and the Sariens had slaughtered all his crewmates." No bell ringing on your end? ;)
-
This sounds familiar. :)

I think that was mostly for being completionist. I thought it was cool, too, that they both showed up for SQ5 and SQ6. But should they ever regain the rights to Space Quest, I'd much rather have them pick up from when it was just Mark and Scott (i.e. at the end of SQ4). Maybe that's just me. ;) Anyway, we've been over all that a zillion times and truthfully no one really knows what might happen except Mark, Scott and whichever guy at Activision is responsible for signing off rights. ;)
-
Everything that happened from SQ4 and onwards could just as easily be retconned, if you wanted to skip having to deal with SQ5+SQ6 altogether. ;) But we've already had that discussion ...

For the record, DecafJedi now has a daughter named Bea. :)

A scary one. With horns. And a huge foam sign on the top that says, "Incinerations is still better than whatever won."

The SQ2VGA one depends on when the IQ gang have time. I'm not even sure who'd join, other than your fine self and Blackthorne. We should probably get Jenny (@Estirdalin) in there as well. Any more that comes to mind?- 82 replies

That was tons of fun, by the way. Look -- all of Space Quest Incinerations, in just under four hours! (Admittedly, we rushed the ending a bit, but we DID get the "greatest ending ever"! Chris reveals a special cheat for those of you who have patience to sit through the whole th-- no, do NOT fast forward! Cheaters!) http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-9iCbMDEyY I've already gushed a lot, but hey, one more time: Thanks, Fred, Akril and Chris! That was such a blast! So ... when are we doing VSB, SQ2VGA and PQ1+2? :)- 82 replies
