I won't say too much, but Scott and I figured out a way to bypass the whole StarCon thing for a potential SQ sequel (effectively nullifying SQ5 and SQ6). Just for fun. It's really, REALLY obvious when you think about it ... ;)

We'll try to nail down a specific time soon. Spike, my man, sorry you weren't kept informed of the Music Hangout. Per your recent thrust, I will keep you abreast in the future.

It's not necessarily conceited; it can come across as conceited without that being the intention. :) I'm not going to harp on about this, because a big part of it comes down to personal preference. For me, personally, parodying fans is essentially meta-parody; it reflects back on the source material, and it has the uncomfortable power to be able to potentially distort the tone and style of the narrative. I don't want to meet Roger Wilco's biggest fan. But that's just me, it seems. ;)

See. That's finesse. :) No, but seriously. That's just a portrait. It doesn't move; it doesn't talk. It doesn't interact. Therein lies the finesse challenge.

I proposed we did the planned "roundtable" discussion where we told our favorite moments from the series and basked in the glow of yesteryears. But since we got The Two Guys with us, we might also talk about the things we're most looking forward to with the SpaceVenture.

Personally, I find the concept of parodying "number one fans" self-aggrqndizing and conceited. I'm sorry, Jess, but that Monkey Island guy was one of the reasons I vowed not to play the rest of the Tales; likewise, the "Back to Earth" episode of Red Dwarf, my otherwise all-time favorite sit-com, was toe-cringingly feeble. The movie "Galaxy Quest" is a similarly abysmal exercise in my book for exactly those reasons. It's just never funny, and it always comes off as either bitter, egotistical, pandering, or all of the above. It would take an ungodly amount of finesse to make something like "parodying the fans" work.

Hero-U - New game from Lori & Corey Cole
Troels Pleimert replied to rogerxy's topic in The Rocket Bar
For a game that values honor and heroism, you QfG fans sure are a perverted lot. You give Wilco-fans a run for their buckazoids. ;) -
THIS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME TO PASS!

The "Cedric Effect" -- now there's a whole new phenomenon (well, not really) to describe an innate feeling of disgusted irritation. Speaking of which, behold ... CyberCedric! And why? Well ... Decaffeinated Jedi @decafjedi @TorbenFrost The fact that #CyberCedric isn't trending right now is incontrovertible proof that there's no justice in this world. Damn straight.

HELP: Interactive fan fiction
Troels Pleimert replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in World O' Fan Wonders
I'd be very much up for a project like that! Actually, Cadbury Wookie and I have been kicking around some stuff in the Space Quest universe lately (yeah, we're back and up to our old tricks). One of them was a plot idea I had for a text adventure that Dan went off and started writing as a fiction story. The working title is "Bea Dies." ;) Shoot me an e-mail (troels@pleimert.dk); let's see where this goes. -
Which is one of the appeals of Roger in the first place -- he's not just the underdog in the Guybrush-sense, where he saves the day but lets fame go to his head, but the true kind of underdog where he saves the day and no one gives a rat's ass. :) Also, as far as Roger is concerned, he's not in this for the fame, the glory or to save the day. Roger's a coward. He just wants to go back to sleep.

SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?

I'll e-mail you. ;) -
I've got a turntable! It occasionally works, too -- most of the time it just needs a little warming up. Which is strange, 'cos it's got an electrical motor, so it should technically outlive me. Oh well. I've got a bunch of neat vinyls (at least, I think so), but most of the time, I listen to music on my little girly pink iPod. It's a hand-me-down from my sister-in-law -- the "hold" button is broken, the entire top half of it is missing, and the file system occasionally rewrites itself, but other than that, it's a real trooper of a device. So here's what's in heavy rotation on my iPod for the past couple of weeks ... no, scratch that, months (I obsess easily): Sybreed - entire discography My favorite band of the moment is the Swiss cybermetal outfit Sybreed, who effortlessly blend staccato off-beat rhythms with 4/4 industrial-tinged EBM sounds. Also, the lead singer can't speak English worth shit, so he has a really funny accent while he screams and sings about turning into a robot and hating all mankind. Apart from the music being friggin' awesome, the accent was the final clinch that made me fall in love with the band. That, and the fact that he's about 150 cm tall and has to wear platform boots on stage just to see over the monitors. I saw these guys play in Copenhagen last month and it was a wet dream come true, despite the fact they were the opening act and only played about 5 songs. Favorite song of the moment: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMQPFT-G82A Amogh Symphony - Abolishing the Obsolete System Some guy from India going absolutely ballistic on guitars, bass and what I presume are programmed drums, because holy shit. And then, all of a sudden, he switches gears and fires up the Goa-techno synths, complete with Indian-style wordless vocals. And then it's back to spazzing out. I love schizophrenic music (Dillinger Escape Plan is another favorite band of mine), but this is way beyond schizophrenic. It's like two styles of music colliding in one guy's head, fighting over who gets the most screentime. Also, you can hear the bass -- not a mean feat in "metal" music. The entire record is streamable/downloadable here: http://amoghsymphony.bandcamp.com/album/abolishing-the-obsolete-system-platinum-edition Synthetic Breed - Perpetual Motion Machine Yes, first Sybreed, now Synthetic Breed. Cybermetal bands aren't that inventive when it comes to band names. Anyhoo, these guys are Australians, and they really, REALLY take themselves seriously. I mean BEYOND serious. Which makes them hilarious. Also, the guy's vocals really stand out for me. I'm not really into "growly" metal, so this type of "screaming" vocals suits me much better. Funnily enough, that's what everyone criticized about the album, but it's what made it stick in my head. That, and the fact that these guys know how to build up tension and release it. Check this out: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TRyeGCde2A Also, I've got a bunch of Frede's music on my iPod ... stuff no one else, apart from (I assume) his girlfriend, has heard. Jealous? ;)

According to the SQ2 opening, "Heroes come and go, and people soon forget." ;)

What role do you think the Two Guys will play?
Troels Pleimert replied to Sir Procestuous's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Well, they didn't write their own appearance in SQ1VGA, and being the "control panel" voices in SQ4 hardly counts as an appearance. But you have a point -- saying they're "always" the victims based on one major appearance (SQ3) is jumping the gun a bit. I don't know; it's just the impression I got. They're not the sorts to get themselves willfully into trouble; they just want to hang out at the beach(dome), sipping fruity drinks, making games. If something gets in the way of that, they need bailing-out. Okay, so I may be reaching. Consider my statement recanted. So that's what this is all about. ;) -
It just wasn't meant to be. It's still a good idea, though. Let's concentrate on getting next Saturday to turn out cool, though. Any idea how many would like to show up? Remember, there's a 10 people limit on Hangouts; barring myself, Scott, Mark, The Pope and PCJ, that leaves just five slots. Unless Scott/Mark/Pope turn up as one guy. Can't imagine how that would work.

SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
Troels Pleimert replied to Johnathon's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
I would love to turn the tables and interview Chris for his own podcast. Not sure he'd be up for that, though, since we pretty much did that when he interviewed me. ;) -
What role do you think the Two Guys will play?
Troels Pleimert replied to Sir Procestuous's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Scott and Mark have always been "victims" in their own games ... and always have some despondent attitude when they get rescued. SQ3 being the prime example, where you have to save them from Elmo Pug, only to have Mark whine about how hungry he is. ;) I'd imagine their role in SpaceVenture would be something similar; e.g. Scott's stuck in the bathroom and you have to help Mark rewire the door controls to get him out. -
Yeah, you know what? This Hangout wouldn't work without Brandon and Fred. It just wouldn't. So I'm pulling the plug in the nick of time here. Please let's do this some other time, and have a bang-up Hangout with The Two Guys.
-
Maybe we should just hold up the Hangout for this time. I'd love to do one, but I'm feeling a bit under the weather as well, and it doesn't look like anyone's gonna come. ;) Let's make the 27th Hangout... er, I mean, the Hangout on the 27th something extra special -- and pick up on the Music Hangout later on.
-
This is gonna be a short Hangout, I can tell. ;) How many are still up for it?

Will you be there in spirit, and / or on camera? Possibly in swimwear?
