Tomorrow night would be best for me (meaning Saturday morning for you Americanos). Same time as last, different day. How's that sound?

SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
Troels Pleimert replied to Johnathon's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
We've had some good chats on #sq lately. Figures, though, the one time two anonymous chatters popped in to say hello, I was afk. ;) Sound of crickets ... -
SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
Troels Pleimert replied to Johnathon's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Blackthorne is right. That being said, I really wish I had more time to go all out with fan projects. If nothing else, then for the sake of being able to say, "Well, I did my part." ;) -
A little update on the situation: I actually got an e-mail from Charles Cecil last night, because he seems to be doing some pretty damn good damage control on the subject. He has openly expressed admiration for Cummins' work, he greenlit BASS2 even though BS5 didn't meet the required stretch goal, and he expressed interest in reconciling with Cummins in the e-mail I received. Trouble is, he has no idea where Cummins has got to. If any of us can track down Dave Cummins, we might have a chance of a proper Steel Sky 2. That is, if he'd be willing to work with Charles Cecil again -- and, based on the e-mails I got from him back in '97/'98, probably not. But hey -- Dave Gibbons is on board with BASS2. So there's always that. :)

POSITION WITH GFA: 3D Character Modeler/Animator
Troels Pleimert replied to ChrisPope's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Hi, Ushko! *waves feverishly* I still can't believe Chris helped me design a game that took place in Hell. Even if I never get around to making that game, I will treasure the design document forever.- 11 replies

SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
Troels Pleimert replied to Johnathon's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
To be honest, I think the fan fervor seems to have dwindled quite considerably the past couple of months. Yes, much of that can be attributed to things seemingly moving slowly in the 2GFA camp (although I have it on good authority that that's far from the truth). I know I have also been guilty of dialing down my fever-pitch cheerleading, not for lack of interest or want, though. It seems the two big things happening, fan-wise, to spread the joy: the Superfan Hangouts and Jess' "Pledge Quest II". And once Jess is done with that, I fear we are down to the Superfan Hangouts. I really wanted to kick-start (forgive the expression) the fan community by building that "graphics toolkit" so people could create fan games without having to worry about artwork. I think the project's kinda stalled with me; I was supposed to write up some planets and characters and what not. Oh, and some artists were supposed to step up to the game. I think the community's still around; we're just sitting back, waiting for something to happen. When I guess -- not to sound assholish or anything -- we should be out there making things happen. -
PCJ is such a card. I'm seriously gonna have a SQ2 shirt made. Maybe use that verbose picture I put up on Facebook a while back.
-
Next weekend sounds like a plan. :) PCJ really seems to love these, huh?
-
Yes, this weekend is a bit short notice for me, too. Next weekend, maybe? Blimey, this'll still be the fastest we've gone from one Hangout to the next ...
-
I would LOVE to see you give Loom a whack. That game is so ripe for some affectionate riffing.

I saw red and wrote a long, angry post about the Steel Sky return. Then I got my ass handed to me on this forum by some people and was defended by others. (I suspect "Infinitron" to be one of the Undergrounders ... ;) ) Well, Steel Sky 1 was released in 1994; Space Quest IV was released in 1991. But I doubt the background artist for Steel Sky played SQ4 -- that was Dave Gibbons, who drew the Watchmen comics. Maybe Revolution did, but I don't think their intention was to rip anything off. Also, there are way fewer zombies in Steel Sky than in the streets of Xenon. ;)

Thank you, my dear friend. You know I wouldn't make a stink about this unless it was really, really important to my fragile sense of masculinity. ;) That's a good idea. You probably already know what game I'd want to play. Here's a hint: it takes place under a sky made of metal. That's also not a bad idea. Unless PCJ plays. We can't talk that fast. That's a very good idea! The whole point of the first Hangout was to raise awareness for the Kickstarter. If anyone really is interested in watching us make fools of ourselves in public, we could at least get some moolah out of it. I'll have to take your word for it. ;) Personally, very few things could take away my high of winning the Skate-o-Rama challenge. That was a piece of vindication long in the waiting.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined in the fun! The first Space Quest Olympics, dare I say it, was a resounding success. Here are the events, bookmarked for your convenience and pleasure: Spider Droid Survival Trial: Astro Chicken Deathmatch: Monolith Burger Mayhem: Skimmer Survival Trial: StarCon EGA Crest Cleaning: Skate-O-Rama!!!!: Super Computer Droid Slugout: * This is the do-over, after my computer died on me during the first try. Also, (I'm the right-most screen; Jess is second-to-left), I so got there first.

Well, a short experiment later, and it seems to work. I can start a Hangout from the 2GFA page, and even send it to YouTube as well. Oh, glory days! Spikey, my good man, add this to your circles and I'll make you part of the VIP crowd. (The Hangout will be live for anyone on 2GFA's circles.)
-
It works like Skype, except better. ;) Seriously. I see you've already added me on G+ -- that means you should see an invitation to hang out when it starts. If for some reason you don't see an invitation, you should see a status update that so-and-so are "hanging out" with a big green "Join" button next to it. Right, I'm off experimenting to see if the 2GFA page will actually let me host a Hangout the way I want it to. ;)
-
Someone check PCJ's vocabulary unit. I think it's stuck in a loop.
-
I'll try hosting it this time, so if you haven't added 2GFA to your circles yet, you can do so here: gplus.to/rogerwilco Finger's crossed it works this time. ;)
-
No celebs invited yet, but I'll yank The Pope's chain and see what happens.
-
Also, can I get an amen from everyone interested? Spikey, did you say last weekend was your birthday weekend, or this weekend? PCJ, are you up for it? Ferde, how's your participation looking? Wolfgang, you ready to leap into the obscene fray? Dat Engineer is apparently off the map, but any chance of a pop-in? Jess seems to be cool -- as usual. :)

Right. We're on for Sunday the 16th! This Sunday, that is. I propose we do it at the same time as the last hangout, meaning: 2.00pm Eastern 11.00am Pacific 8pm Denmarkian If you want to know what time that is for you, check out this neat trick I stole from Jess. How many are loving that so far?
-
Sunday the 16th is the new date everyone will learn to love. How many are loving it so far?
-
Too many are bailing, methinks. We'll look into an alternative date. How's next weekend look?
-
So, Sunday is fast approaching. Can I get an amen from people interested in participating? Or should we find another date?

"I don't get it ... Ooooh, NOW I get it!"

I never understood the screw in Stellar's stomach as a double entendre until now. So thanks right back, Johnathon! :D
