  1. I haven't checked the Kickstarter updates in ages, nor have I heard anything directly from the Guys about the game. But I did recently hear something that indicated that the game is more than well underway, but I can't elaborate. I'm not supposed to know anything. But going by what I do know, we (still) have little to worry about in regards to the March 2015 deadline. But if speculation is, once again, running rampant about the Guys running out of money and what have you, it only goes to show that asking for less updates wasn't a very good idea. When people asked for less updates, they arguably also asked them to spend more time on the game and be less transparent about what's going on. Frankly, "less updates, please" is a stupid thing to ask of a Kickstarter project, no matter how fluffy Pope's updates may or may not have been. Because sometimes, all you want an update to tell you is that the creators are still on the radar. We did at least get that on a bi-weekly basis before...
  2. Yeah, I'd suggest that you share this elsewhere too if you want more response, because not only can this place be pretty quiet at times (for better and for worse), but we rarely get that many newcomers either. Check out the "Sierra Chest", "Sierra Gamers" and "Space Quest" Facebook groups, if you're into that. If not, the Sierra Help Pages Forums are probably livelier. For good measure, I will add that I think the stuff you're making and showcasing here is extremely cool and among the more successful attempts at moving Space Quest into 3D that I've seen :)
  3. Zappa was indeed the original George Lucas. Letting that man near digital equipment as he was getting ill with cancer should've been a goddamn felony. I could never get into Sheik Yerbouti before I went out and bought the vinyl, which sounds amazing. Now it's one of my favourite albums of his, even though I think much of the humour of You Are What You Is is funnier and more clever. The launch of the Universal 2012 reissues was such a blessing. I remember finding Hot Rats on Spotify and nearly getting a seizure when I heard the drum intro for Peaches En Regalia. I hadn't listened much to the vinyl mix, but I knew what I was hearing. It sucks that Cruising With Ruben & the Jets, Uncle Meat, the remix of Cheepnis, Zappa In New York and The Man from Utopia are all stuck with digitalitis, though. Maybe we should start a Zappa thread before I start gushing over the 1973-1974 band ;)
  4. They also get to put out the game on a bigger market that way. Does anyone actually want to play vintage P&C on a console? Troels has spoken in the favour of the Wii, but the Wii U is still the most disappointing console, sales-wise, of the current generation. I can't blame them. Why limit what could be a mainstream rebirth of King's Quest just because the die-hards - who, I'm sorry, seem to rarely want any kind of renewal or rethinking - want it? I, for one, am still looking forward to this game. But as I've said many, many times, I'm not really a fan of Roberta's designs. So I'd be pretty disappointed if it was a P&C'er where you have to guess the name of the gnome Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
  5. "Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded" looks like a real remastered version in the same way Frank Zappa's early CD releases sound like real remastered versions.
  6. I had really been hoping for a classic point'n'click game. I nearly tripped over my Buffalo shoes and knocked over the fondue kit when I saw the trailer. Now I'm listening to Ace of Base to soothe the pain. Yes, that was really what the 90's were like here in Europe. I know, right?
  7. You know, I'm kinda happy that Grim Fandango is just a simple remaster and not some HD Director's Cut type thing, like the Broken Sword games. But I would also have settled with the original being made available. That said, I hope they plan to fix the now infamous bug that reportedly blocked the player from some important plot information.
  8. "Gwydion! I need a colon cleansing."
  9. "'Sup."
  10. Actually, it's about ethics in games journalism.
  11. Still beats the fucking owl.
  12. It's not that bad. Just don't look at the comb when you're playing as Valanice, lest you feel like playing "Depression Quest".
  13. I really enjoyed KQ7 last time I played it. It's good fun. KQ6 is absolutely brilliant, which you of course already know. Never been a fan of the rest of them.
  14. I disagree with the notion that she got better and better. By KQ5 - often hailed as a series highlight - we would have tambourine-playing rock monsters, Yeti-repellant custard pies and wand-recharging cheese machines. I can't speak for the Phantasmagoria games as I haven't played those, but I can't say I've heard good things about them either. Bear in mind that her games were always technologically impressive. But I believe Fronzel explained why ;) And I do agree with KQ1 being an interesting exercise in primitive non-linearity. If we stretch it a bit, it's also one of the very first open world games in video game history. KQ7 is actually fairly well-designed, I'd say, but it doesn't get a lot of credit for it, so I doubt you were referring to that.
  15. The Tex Murphy gamed have this thing about medieval castles. I don't really get why they're seemingly standing around all over the U.S. in the aftermath of WW3. Looks like solid masonry, but it's still deeply illogical. Someone has to mention the Datacorder puzzle in Space Quest 6. Say what you will about logic puzzles, but it really is a crime that the material that was to provide clues for the puzzle was just cut out. By then, Sierra was losing it, and unfortunately, this blunder just plain ruined a section of the game. I can understand why Josh was upset about it. I agree wholeheartedly with tomint too. The gnome puzzle could not be more evil - not even if it ran on a timer. It will always baffle me why Roberta is put on a pedestal when she mostly designed illogical rubbish like that.
  16. Something tells me these guys don't have a PR or community manager the way a studio like Phoenix does. Regardless of who's trying to screw over who, you can't expect any customer to be satisfied with a "Well, you did something wrong". From what I understand, they labeled their DLC "Special Edition", which is honestly just as stupid as people not reading the description of just what they're buying. Then again, when was the last time you read the terms of service for something? I must admit I also personally find their $30 price tag quite overblown. I've seen the trailer and a few screenshots, and this honestly doesn't look like it's worth the money. But I'm not likely to buy it either way, so it's not my place to complain. I might pick up the original version some day, though.
  17. Original all the way, though I agree with Fronzel that the remake is not bad. But it's not as good as the original either. Nowhere near it.
  18. No, I don't think he is. The team roster on the website seems to indicate that Scott Miller, Bryan Turner and Joe Siegler are the only returning veterans for now. They may well be better off without Broussard; I remember having seen similar comments from him in the past, though I think they were on another site. The company's community is in the right hands with Siegler, though. I'm with you as far as a physical copy goes. At the very least, they should offer that cover art as a poster. Heck, I'd gladly pay money for a nice, big coffee mug with that on it too. Their merchandise-section is still "Coming soon", though. Also, like all the other Apogee games from that era that, Bio Menace rocks. Apogee really knew what to do with EGA graphics and AdLib music. Haven't really sat down and (re-)played it much yet, though. Right now, I'm sticking with Duke Nukem, but I've been stuck on the last level in Episode I for weeks.
  19. I think part of my aversion towards it has stemmed from not being able to find a frontend I really liked, at least for PC. I was a pretty huge fan of D-Fend back when that project was still going (but have yet to try D-Fend Reloaded). Boxer covers what I expect on Mac. But really... if at any point during my rants it seemed like I don't admire the efforts of the people who've contributed to DOSBox, that's incorrect. I very much do. Being unable to get MUNT working outside ScummVM on the PC (Boxer's approach is insanely easy) has probably also been a bit of a chip on my shoulder. I recall trying out the SVN Daum build once before, but I couldn't get that particular feature working. Installing the driver isn't an (easy) option since I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, and I've never been able to get the QT app working either. Obviously can't blame DOSBox for that, though.
  20. Yes, most of the new additions are characterised by an unforgivable lack of logic. The new take on Gabriel breaking into Mosely's office is a welcome exception. But seriously, what the hell were Jane and Phoenix thinking? In my mind, this is how the dialogue between Gabriel and Wolfgang in Benin now kicks off: Gabriel: "You must be Uncle Wolfgang." Wolfgang: "Ah, Gabriel! Now do you know what it takes to be Schattenjäger?" Gabriel: "Yeah, I did the initiation ritual alright..." Wolfgang: "Gut, gut. And...?" Gabriel: "Well, I saw some kinda dream dragon." Wolfgang: "HÖH! Dream dragon, schmeam dragon! Did you solve the sliding puzzle?" Massive groan. I agree on the speech bubbles. Next time I play the game, I might just turn text of altogether; the dialogue is obviously much, much clearer than that of the original anyway.
  21. I have no definite idea why, but Hartridge's lecture is honestly one of my favourite parts of the game. It might be because the puzzle slowly begins coming together during that scene. The brush of (mostly, I suppose) genuine research makes the story feel a lot more real too.
  22. I think we're doing Monkey Island next (that sounds almost romantic). After that, we could tackle that subject. It is definitely a relevant one. Thanks for the suggestion, Josh! :)
  23. If all the symbols didn't look like Dali vomited all over the clock, it would've been easy. But, dude, the first message written out on the tomb is "DJ CONCLAVE TONIGHT BRING FWET KASH". Everything makes sense but the last two words, which can be picked up at Hartridge's lecture, along with "sekey madoule". It makes total sense to me, and puzzles like this rarely do. Less so with the GK 2 tape-splicing, which is too specific. Why is "show Mr. Knight our wolves" not equal to "show our wolves to Mr. Knight", for example?
  24. I don't get why people don't like the voodoo code-puzzle. To me, it feels very rewarding to solve. It makes you feel like you're uncovering something deeply forbidden and (mostly) forgotten. Plus, I've never found it that hard. The clock puzzle I could live without, though. Never been able to solve that one on my own.
