HELP: Interactive fan fiction
Troels Pleimert replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in World O' Fan Wonders
Wow! That looks really cool! Just think of the amount of mayhem we could wield with that thing ... Has anyone got an invite? :) -
I cleared it with my wife before I made the World Clock announcement. ;) Perks of being the guy who ended up managing these things.
-
Right, with all the maybes and supposes, I see no other recourse than to make it official. Let's do this shit. Let's play Sierra games on Saturday. How do these times sound to you?

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if PCJ just focused all his energy on curing diseases and stuff. -
My fucking god. Does this mean the old-old Wilco's Domain is also in there somewhere?
-
Or we have this really ass-backwards game where I play the game, but four other people direct me where to go. Like Jones by Proxy.
-
Yeah, I think the idea is to just play it as we did the "Other Favorites" Hangout. Just pick a game to start out with and play it until you get bored and switch to a different game. ;) I, for one, don't think I can fill up 4 hours of just playing Jones. Unless we figure out a way to get other Superfans to play with me. Actually, now that I think about it, the more Sierra games we can squeeze in, the better. Sierra had a wide and varied history that just takes ages to cover. I think we should try not to stray from core Sierra, however -- no Coktel Vision, no Dynamix, or whatever else they had going back then. That'll just confuse things even further. ;)

I'm very glad you think so! I'm having a blast myself and I'm so thrilled we get to finally meet, face-to-face (sort of), and just have a laugh. If only we had been this privileged back in 1997. Edit: Er, by "we," I mean all us Space Quest fans. Just trying to shake the stalker image, is all. As for what game for the Hangout? I'm going to play the shit out of Jones in the Fast Lane! :D

Sadly for everyone, I'm with Jess on this one. I have a Christmas party this Saturday (seriously), so I can't possibly attend. And I really want to be in on this one. Next Saturday would be kick-ass.

Scott and I did our best to convince her on Twitter. Wouldn't hurt to have a third wingman. ;)
-
We might also get Pushing Up Roses (of That Guy With the Glasses fame) to join us. Interest was expressed on Twitter.
-
We might have another guest participant on our hands: https://twitter.com/SlashVohaul/status/294026254485704704 ;) Good point. Also, it bears reiterating that the old SQN archives still work -- which means you can get Space Quest soundtrack mp3's ahead of time. For instance, here's the SQ3 soundtrack: http://www.spacequest.net/archives/sq3/soundtrack/

Let's start the Hangout with our favorite SQ music and we can expand from there. I would think screen-sharing your playing app would carry the sound with it. Then again, I like the idea of a Hangout DJ. ;)

Mr. Allen would like to join us, but asks if we could move the Hangout back to an earlier time. How do people feel about these times? (7 am for him on the West Coast; 4pm for us Denmarkians.) http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Space+Quest+Superfan+Music+Hangout&iso=20130126T16&p1=69&ah=4

That's fantastic! I've sent out an invitation to Ken Allen. He expressed some sincere interest on Twitter in joining us.

Scratch that Monday business. Here's a new suggestion: next Saturday! http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Space+Quest+Superfan+Music+Hangout&iso=20130126T21&p1=69&ah=4

Hi, guys! In light of recent developments with Ken Allen joining the SpaceVenture cast as official musician, it might be time to relive the glory days of the Superfan Hangouts. We were talking about doing a Music Hangout where we each bring our favorite piece and talk poetically about it. And Ken Allen himself is interested in joining us as a special guest, if we can nail down a time. I know it's short notice, but how does people feel about this Monday, at our standard time?

Personally, I would disagree on that (despite loving a good fecal show). But that's the great thing about "art" -- it is, ultimately, in the eyes of the beholder. To me, art has intent, thought and purpose, even if that's entirely subconscious (e.g. a mentally retarded painter). And I have to be personally impressed by the effort to call it "art", even if it is a minute effort. Still, that's all subjective. Your mileage may, and probably should, vary. :)

And big up for the "Vohaulidays" pun. ;)

Lucida Handwriting for the caption and Comic Sans for the speech bubble! BOOYA! On-sight-identification! (I'm a font nerd. Which means I now have to hurt you for using Comic Sans.)

I like that onset: Finish something creative. Even if it's just a particularly well-formed poo. You could be the first ass-sculptor! Wouldn't that be creative? Okay, maybe I should be quiet now. Chase me down? I've never heard of anyone chasing me down; it's usually the other way around. Here's a quick way: chat me up on Google Plus; it shows up on my phone. Daniel Stacey and I use that as an SMS (text message) surrogate. And wow, I'm happy Steel Sky got under your skin. For a game with such a troubled development history, it's a wonder it turned out the way it did. Then again, maybe it helped the mood. ;)

Well, yes ... it would, because this time, Scott and Mark would be a) together, and B) not bound by corporate pressure to include multiplayer, 3D acceleration or any of the other nonsense that was getting shoved onto Scott and Leslie's desks back in 1997. If they really, deep in their hearts, don't want to make another Space Quest game, then they hide it pretty well. Scott in particular seems keen to straighten out a few loose ends and (assuming they only get one shot at the license) at least end the series with a glorious bang, instead of the somewhat flaccid pffft SQ6 left us with. (I'm talking about the one-screen talky ending of SQ6 here; not the game itself.) I love this style of thinking! :) And yes, that's basically what it is. Even if you somehow end up not liking the characters of SpaceVenture, what I've heard of the plot (shhh!) will be pleasing to any Space Quest fan. From what I understood, the original plan was to make a Space Quest game, and The Two Guys approached Activision with a proposal to do so. They were given permission to use the moniker Two Guys From Andromeda, but Activision wanted to hold on to the Space Quest license for a bit (for undisclosed reasons) until The Two Guys had proven they hadn't gone senile or delinquent in the interim between Sierra's demise and Double Fine's success. I think I might be allergic to that final remark.

I thought animation was an art form? ;) Hell, anything I'm terrible at is automatically an art form in my book. Yes, this means "math" is also an art form. When applied correctly. And hey, Jimmy, I'm glad we could twist your arm and threaten your family enough to make you see things our way. ;)

Hey, everyone. Thought I'd check in and spread a little New Year's cheer around here. It's 2013, and I hope everyone is still feeling safe -- and, since it's now Thursday after the fact, perhaps even a mite refreshed? So, anyway. I'm not going to ask something inane and pointless, like "what New Year's resolution do you plan on failing at this year?" I'm just going to flap my arms wildly and go, "Yay, 2012 was the best! 2013 can't possibly top any of that. Oh, wait, all those games that were announced in 2012 are coming out this year! Including the SpaceVenture! So maybe it can!" And then collapse into a heap of my own slobber. What are your plans for 2013?

I'm with Blackthorne. We've been waiting for SQ7 for two decades now. And it's not like Roger's been lying dormant; not with the great fan games that have been coming out. SpaceVenture is going to be a welcome breath of fresh air -- even if it's tinged with that delightful sewer-y funk.
