1. GK1 was my first thought. That and SQ5/6 were my impetus for getting it. I payed SQ5 on the MT-32 but it didn't sound quite right.
2. Heh, more trouble...just won an auction for an SC-55 :)
3. Got Loom up and running last night. Luckily LucasArts still has the "Roland patch" for the original EGA version available for download from their support site. I didn't like the initial error message saying it was switching me to AdLib mode!
4. Oh I guess sucking up the space trash bags in SQ5 is also indirectly player controlled in as much as you order it to happen. Come to think of it that would have been a half decent arcade sequence.
5. The only other major player-controlled cleaning I can think of is zapping the trash cans in SQ3. You see Rog sweeping at the beginning of SQ2 but of course he quickly loses his space broom.
6. Yeah, I tried those installers but alas they don't work with the GoG versions. Once I figured it out it was a simple as changing the entry in the resource.cfg to MT32.DRV. I am quite confused as to why they'd bother removing the install.exe, I can't imagine it was more then a couple of K.
7. Yeah, the installer was the tougher part. I was running off the GoG version, they remove the installer exe. I had to manually change the resource.cfg. That's what took a bit of digging. Wing Commander was worse since they don't reference files in their config file, they use a cryptic code. I got it running and now that I know, it's dead easy, just saying ScummVM is a bit more straightforward in that regard. Well, this thread sure works well as a distraction, don't it? :)
8. Figuring that out took a bit more effort then checking a box in ScummVM options.
9. I must say as well, getting my real MT-32 to run using ScummVM is about a million times easier then on DOSBox. Gonna be playing Loom next week for my podcast so I think I'll be using it!
10. I always enjoyed SQ6 despite some of the story issues. When it comes to difiuclty however, I have to say SQ2 by far, a lot of logic leaps that have already been covered. While I didn't find SQ3 particularly hard, I never really felt like the story was communicated super well. I never really felt a compelling reason to go rescue the two guys. I need cutscenes!
11. Gonna give this a try, thanks for the info.
12. Yeah, that's the version I ended up using. no matter which patches I applied, the color palette always got messed on load on Win7 64. I got it and the followup games running on my older XP laptop. No issues there.
13. I think my next acquisition is going to be an SC-55 or SC-88, always wanted this stuff when I was younger.
14. Hm, cool. Defintiely something to look into then.
15. Only problem was that old version of C&C is the Win95 release. I built the machine as a little side project to chat about on the show. It was there so I figured why not!
16. You could always get one of those USB breakout sound processor deals instead of using the poor excuse for a sound card you have in the laptop.
17. It's funny, I'm covering Command & Conquer for my next podcast and I actually had to use my "DOS gaming box" (P-II 450Mhz, Voodoo2, 128MB SDRAM, SBAWE32, Win98SE) to run C&C Win95 edition. My i7 running Win7 64 couldn't deal with it even under compatibility mode. Glad I built that thing (and so were my coworkers who were happy to dump me with all their old beige boxes!).
18. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind, just having fun listening to the MT-32 files, playing through some SQ and Wing Commander and staring at the little green screen :)
19. I poured my nervous energy into getting my hands on a real MT-32. It came in the mail last week and I spent part of the weekend getting it hooked up and running via DOSBox/Cakewalk. I've wanted one forever! This is probably the coolest thing I've messed with in a long time. Sooo much fun! I'm spending quite a bit of time over at Quest Studios :) I'm sure the prototype will be great, and great things take time.
20. While the Tex page is definitely a bit clearer, It's still too much of a wall of text. Honestly I'm not a big fan of the guysfromandromeda site design in general. I find it very cluttered and the galaxy background is quite distracting. The center "content" area is very narrow which makes it difficult to lay out more complex information (like the reward tiers). I do agree (with less vehemence) that there should just be a button for international backers. You want to make things as easy as possible. Yes, add 15 to your intended total isn't a big deal, but it may deter people.
21. ...and now we've really done it. Great work everyone.
22. *ahem* WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
23. Apologies in advance....
