Death and Damnation. I had promised a video but it has been a few days and alas, nothing. I did make a small one. Is it too late? If nothing else, I will think wonderful thoughts about the team!

Since I've posted a few times, figured I might as well say hello. My name is Doug, I'm an ancient bugger at 52, I've been playing adventure games since many of you were still on your parents "to do" list. I was a mechanical engineer at IBM for many years and now I run a mechanical technology department at the local community college. I grew up on the water so I love all things sailing and motor boating, fishing, camping, that sort of stuff. I'm a computer geek back when that involved punch cards and for some reason (possible insanity say most), I've stuck with it. Actually won a division award at IBM for making all the lab equipment talk to each other (with an IEEE 488 interface people. Try finding one of those today). Like Tom King whose post is just above, I too am in Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded yelling PERVERT in the store (I'm the fat bald one closest to the clerk).
 
I have a lovely wife of 30 years who really should know better, 3 sons 22, 17, and 13. The oldest is an Ensign in the US Navy and just flew to Japan today to catch his ship for the next 2 years. The other 2 haven't figured out how to escape us yet!

Some of you may know me from Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded (I'm that bald jerk pounding beers in Lefty's), others may know me from Twitter (@DadsNewBF). Others may not know me at all, in which case, nice to meet you.
 
My hobbies/interests include (but certainly are not limited to) music, roadtrips, cooking, hiking, kayaking, cycling, unicycling, changing the size of my thumbs, learning new languages, juggling, poetry, playing air-instruments, playing real instruments, speaking braille, and sometimes, playing hopscotch with philosophers and kings.

Oh, well, no Death and Damnation. We'll go to Ill-will and Discontent. I'll get something to you! You have to forgive me MusicallyInspired, I'm still operating through the fog of antibiotics. I'm enjoying "Better living through chemistry" for a few more days! At least the fever that was most of last week has died down.

Count me in for a signature too. I'd love to see a new Larry game (I'm okay without remaking any more even if LSL2 was a "bit" (that means a WHOLE lot) buggy.

I will say it again and I can not stress it enough, you have no idea how fun Josh Mandel made it for us, getting to chat with him during late night phone conferences, seeing things others didn't and seeing your ideas and suggestions put in the game talked about or ignored was a genuine blast. Josh made it worth it I know the others will agree.

I haven't chatted with Josh in a while, but he has definitely left Replay Games. His LinkedIn profile lists him as "formerly" Chief Creative Office at Replay for one year from July 2012 until June 2013. So Josh left Replay 3 or 4 months ago.
 
Since Josh is no longer using Facebook, I am not going to bother him about this; he values his privacy. I'm sure he had good reasons for leaving. He is probably spending time with his family, getting away from it all, and possibly working on a new project on his own. That's all pure speculation on my part.
 
Oh, just for the fun of it (and because she deserves it), I gave Serena a shout-out in my latest Hero-U update - http://www.kickstart...on/posts/628169. She has been a great proponent of indie Kickstarter adventure games. I caught her by surprise. :-)
 
Incidentally, I supported LSL: Reloaded mostly because Adventure Mob did the prototype. Lori and I designed part of an Adventure Mob game in late 2011, so we wanted to support them. Shortly after the Kickstarter, they were thrown under the bus. However, as I understand it, Al and Josh were in on that decision and had good reasons for it. The game would undoubtedly have been different if developed by Adventure Mob rather than N-Fusion. It's impossible to say whether it would have taken longer or less time, and whether it would have been a better or worse game. N-Fusion (and by reflection, Replay Games) are to be congratulated in actually shipping a quality adventure game.

I am ashamed to say I haven't been banned from Replay for my one post yet. I see several folks are dropping turds throughout the forum which I agree, is a bit like pissing on roadkill. I have heard several folks talk about the swag arriving poorly wrapped, crushed, etc. This, sadly is true. The box was designed with a cardboard insert to hold stuff together and looks like it might have even held the shot glass in place, but all for nothing, stuff was tossed in the box and rattled all the way from Austin to upstate NY! There were signs of problems before, they are just a little more obvious now!

This is also something to keep in mind; nobody will ever remake an entire game (or create an entire fan-game) that was created by Paul Trowe. No one, out of pure love and admiration, will dedicate so much time and effort into such a thing. Something for which no compensation was required; just the sheer joy of doing it and sharing it with others.
 
He'll never have that. He can flap his mouth now, and boast about any successes, financial gook, whatever - but he'll never, ever, ever have that admiration and love. Ever. You can't buy that, you can't swindle that, and you can't fake your way to that.
 
He can claim to want to be "Sierra 2.0" but it'll never happen; he doesn't have the charisma to pull it off. Sure, Sierra was a business, we all know that. And inherent in that are lots of things that can be at conflict with the passions of the heart - but when that fades, and we're here - 20+ years later, still loving these games that made their financial "nut" a long time ago, and yet the love, dedication and devotion remains.
 
We'll still remember and love Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe long after we've all forgotten the name Paul Trowe. In the end, that will be his legacy. Nothing. There will be no legacy. That is kind of sad, if you can think about it from an outside perspective. But we all chose our own paths and we reap what we sow. You can shuffle off this mortal coil so easily - you have to ask yourself "What is it, really, that you want to leave behind? What kind of impression can I make on my fellow man?" I often asked myself this when I was on dialysis, as it seemed like I could be gone any second, and though I've not always been perfect - I have tried my best not to cast a shadow of darkness (Hah!).
 
I don't care what Paul Trowe has done with Leisure Suit Larry; it's honestly irrelevant to SpaceVenture. I don't know if it was really a "success", I don't know how it did financially. If people enjoyed the production of it, and got the joy of making a game, at least it could be a success on that level. However, I don't know if it was a great process making it. Whatever the case, I know there were lots of decent people who did work on that game - and worked hard.
 
But, again, their "sucess" or lack of it has nothing to do with SpaceVenture. SpaceVenture is its own project - and it has it's own needs, its own timeline and its own challenges. Maybe Paul is jealous that they didn't join "Sierra 2.0" but now it's obvious that he was never the right person for that job.
 
So, my friends and colleagues, I don't damn Paul Trowe or Replay Games; the noose of his hanging was fashioned by his own hands, and I don't want to take any joy in someone's bad/self-destructive behavior. I do, however, celebrate The Two Guys From Andromeda (And one Space Pope!) who have become friends and brothers-in-arms over the past few years, and continue my support of them, and I know they'll make a great game, full of adventure, fun, laughs and maybe even a gruesome death or two!!

I don't think sharing content that's publicly available is unethical, but the context sure makes all the difference! Personally, I can think of many other words than "LOVE", but some of you out there may have children looking over your shoulders.

Thanks for saving those posts. I've gotten some shots personally from Tom and Jeroen. It's so heartening to see so many people coming to my and others' defense. It's sad to see what Paul's been doing and angers me to no end to see him censoring so many great people. Even posters that I've had problems with I've heard were banned. As much as they were driving me and other mods insane, even THEY didn't deserve that kind of treatment.

Looks like the purge continues over at Replay. I may sneak over and steal some of
drdrslashvohaul's popcorn! I have to agree with Vega and others, I don't see Paul sweet talking his way out of this one. More interesting will be to see if all this hits his wallet.

Just stepping in to add my 2 cents worth and maybe add Paul Troll another twitter fan or 2! I guess its a crime to not hang on every word out of Paul's mouth. At this point, I'm honestly annoyed that I upped my pledge in LSLR to get my image in the game. Thankfully I backed a bunch of other games (like say, SQ and QFI to name a couple) so I know I'll still come out ahead. For what little it is worth, I put a note in the Replay forum that I'm done and unliked the FB page and I'm movin' on a few bucks poorer but with a couple of wonderfully drawn pictures (given the horrid subject matter)! I only hope the downfall is quick enough to keep LSL alive and that it doesn't get dragged down in the undertow. Now back to the broom closet for an old adventurer's nap!

I wonder if Trowe really understands how much damage he's doing to not only his own reputation but the reputation of his company name as well. Josh did, indeed, fix up the previous PR disaster very nicely, but if he's not there to keep things in check I guess we won't be seeing that much of Replay in the future. I think he doesn't fully understand that he's a head of his company and as such everything he says or does reflects back on it as well. A sad thing indeed.
