  1. Thou shalt not speak of the sekey madoule puzzle! As MusicallyInspired touched on, the link is Dan Kehler and Neal Grandstaff, the composers for LSL6, KQ7 and SQ6. Collector's comment also seems pertinent. Yep. KQ7 has the Graveyard music which is Poly LX in SQ6, and most notably SQ6 has the Elevator Ride music which is the Make-Up (Shablee) music from LSL6, and also the Orion's Belt Bar Theme 2 piece which is Thunderbird's theme in LSL6. I'm fairly sure there is at least one more SQ6 piece that is based off of a LSL6 piece. Maybe it's "Boot Liquor". LSL6's resources also have the 'Tape Worm Ride" in there, and that game predates SQ6 by a good chunk o' time.
  2. Akril, don't make me contact you via every way I can think of to encourage you into doing this ;) How about, if myself, who's never done video anything for his own website, does it, you might be tempted?
  3. Good time to start ;) Maybe we'll see Scotty soon.
  4. Heh, and Dean Erickson and Jane are friends on FB as of yesterday. Who would have thought this could happen even a year ago.. :)
  5. You like *Eve*, Cap'n? Give me Passionate Patti in 16 glorious colors, any day. ;)
  6. Everything's been said, so no value in Scott and Mark posting (although if they want to say hi in a different topic I'm sure that would be fun!) . But thank them for their interest- just tell 'em we want a new game :) And Kickstarter before September so I can claim it's for my birthday ;) Thanks for your post, though, Mr Pope. You're a rockstar even if you're not the 3rd or 4th Guy from Andromeda. The fact is that you have a job to do and you're doing it well (sorry Mr McCartney!), so you really don't need to have these concerns about "your name" or "what is said about you". other than one comment that has now been more or less rescinded, people really have more questions than statements about you. I think you've answered a lot of them today. So, thankyou and good to meet you. And I'm glad at the resolution of this thread. Not to sound too altruistic or vain, but I did start the thread with the (naive?) hope that it would let people hash things out. While it didn't exactly do that (reconcile differences that is), Josh and Paul were able to chat and Paul could figure out what was important. So, good deal, and great post, Mr Trowe. I'm still a fan, don't worry. Probably more so now. Looking forward to Larry and SpaceVenture maybe a little more now.
  7. Jane says on the Kickstarter page that GK4 is a possibility if the PR games are a success and she can get the IP. If I had time and money, I would pledge the full 250, and be a minor staff member at Pinkerton. But I don't. LSL1 has probably cleaned me out.
  8. One of the best posts I've read in years, Johnathon- kudos Sir. Paul- you said you won't reply, so OK. And Johnathon has summed it up already. But since I started this topic I'll post my 2 cents. I actually like you, what you've done so far and are trying to achieve. I'm disappointed to hear your, for want of a better word, rants, given that my aim was for the air to be cleared so we could move on from accusations and quiet whispers (divisiveness in the "new Sierra" community). So you know, I'm a LSL1VGA Kickstarter funder. I pledged $100 (that I don't really have, BTW), because I feel it's worth it and I love Josh and Al to pieces. They've been generous to me over the years, too. So while you have them, don't waste them. This opportunity will NOT come along again. I will continue to fund LSL Kickstarter projects and try to do the others. but stay positive. Stay community minded. I understand your frustrations at the Two Guys, even if I don't know the personal situations and complex machinations of your relationships, but they have made decisions and that's the reality of the game. So what's done is done. Calling names will not make you look good or professional, and it certainly won't give them incentive to sign on board with you or Replay in the future. I am going to put this one down to past frustrations on your part (legitimate or otherwise) and possibly a lack of sleep due to your frenetic work on LSL1/Kickstarter, but if you're serious about a united Sierra community at some point, I probably speak for more than just myself when I say that I don't want to see a repeat. There's just nothing to be gained for you, for them, and for the fans. You've seen the comments in this thread, whether you've enjoyed them or not. They're the future of companies like Replay reviving old Sierra IP's. Listen to them. I will close by saying that there have been some comments in this thread that could be construed as slanderous or offensive, and as the starter of the topic and a senior member of the Sierra community, I take responsibility for that and apologise. Because I want to see you continue to do great things with the old IP. You're the only person who has been able to get it and do something with it for 20 years. So, kudos to you, Paul. Hey, you liked a comment I made on Facebook. I can't be all bad. Let's work hand in hand to make money and (re)make some great games.
  9. Note Ken Allen's subtle "positive and nothing but fun" comment ;) I'm not trying to incite a riot, or anything. I just think that news like this should be covered so we know what the history is- that Replay wanted 2Guys, that they didn't sign on board, and so forth.
  10. Of course, Scott may have had nothing to do with the LSl in SQ4 thing, either.. Awesome interview. Thanks so much for posting. i've done a few interviews with Josh over the years, and posted some, but none had quite as much SQ detail and answered as many questions as I had. Thnaks, Sledgy!
  11. Great post, Frans. Spot on. And I also agree with what people are saying. I would love SQ, but I guess a new franchise or stand alone, whatever, with the Two Guys, with Gary Owens- I can't complain. But what do I get for my money and what do I know about the game. But as MI said we'll know more soon. Hopefully.
  12. I tried to keep my own opinion kind of quiet, because I know a lot of people involved with this, but I agree with nearly 100% of what has been said. great posts. And Jess (Jedi) did sum it up perfectly. Kudos, Jess, and as FM80 said in another thread, please revive "Apropos of Something". Probably the only thing I can say in regret that they didn't build a super-company is that perhaps Space Quest would be under that umbrella, rather than starting on something new. But perhaps it is still an option if SpaceVenture is a success. I guess if we don't like how it turns out, we can always get in the timepod and go back to the Space Quest VII time period, right? ;) EDIT: I will also say that as much as I admire Paul Trowe's vision, I don't like his divisive remarks, and I can see what someone said about a "Ken Williams" complex.
  13. For those who haven't seen it, Paul Trowe (Replay Games, with Josh/Al doing LSL1VGA on Kickstarter) said this to Ken Allen (former SQ4 composer and about to be interviewed by the Two Guys) on Facebook today: "Ask them a hard question. Ask them why they didn't join up with the folks at Replay Games to create Sierra 2.0 and instead chose some guy they've never heard of, Chris Pope, to run a company they don't own." Thoughts/comments please! Talk about putting the flarx amongst the kjorn.
  14. Nope, my wife is the Schafer fan, not me. There's a few other reasons why i'm unsure about investment, including, how sustainable beyond one game is SpaceVenture going to be, will they ever get back to SQ if this is a moderate success, but those are the main reasons. I think the 2Guys would have a bad day if they released as little info as Double Fine. They are unlikely to get 500K on the whiff of an oily rag- at least, for a project that isn't SQ.
  15. I voted 50-100, but it all depends. We have near to zero info about SpaceVenture so far, so if they went on Kickstarter tomorrow, my pledge would be zero. It depends on: 1. What the game they propose looks like, and 2. What incentives they offer. LSl1VGA had awesome incentives for the 100 tier, an artbook, soundtrack amongst others, so that was a bargain. If SpaceVenture can offer goodies I'd go up to 100, but without it being Space Quest, it'd have to be something special.
  16. Welcome back, Cap'n! It's crazy, I was JUST thinking this morning, am I gonna have to revisit IRC and drag Ascii, Jeysie and BLusk back from the time rip. But now you're here :) Give my best to the old gang.
  17. Happy Bday :) Someday we'll have to bump heads in T-town.
  18. Yes, when I finish the project sometime in 2013 ;) Naw, seriously, I'd have to dig it out. SQ6 has mostly reused themes that are slightly different, e.g. feature an additional intro or outro, or differ somehow from what is the final in-game piece. But just for you Troels, since I don't have a life on Saturday night- here's a ZIP of what I have labeled as SQ6 unused tracks: http://www.sierramusiccentral.com/assorted/SQ6U.zip Some may be lemons, but I'm sure there's some good ones in there. The one that starts with whistles and ends with brass and is about 1-2 minutes long is an unused Orion's Belt Bar theme, I remember that. Brandon: Thanks. Anything you're interested in specifically? I have loooong resources.
  19. I spent a long time on Mono Burger, but never THAT long :) I'm referring to the SQ4 unreleased beta version. I guess "alternate ending" is stretching it a bit, but there is text that comes before the ending we know and love. Here's two bits: 1. Beatrice holo (goes in the middle of the next one) string_02e6 = "\"** See I told you.\"" string_02fb = "realyStupidScript" string_030d = "**holo of Rogers future wife." string_032b = "**Her golden hair blows in the breeze, and you wonder how you will get so lucky." string_037c = "hair" string_0381 = "**Holo of your future wife." string_039d = "**You gaze at the beautiful woman in the holo and look forward to the day that you finally meet her." 2. Roger and son exchange (prior to ending) string_055a = "\"** You did so get all your good looks from me!\"" string_058b = "\"** I did not, I look like mom, see I'll show you.\"" string_05bf = "holoScript" string_05ca = "\"** I'd hurl every time I looked in the mirror if I looked like you!\"" string_0610 = "\"** I bet your just jealous that I'm such a famous hero.\"" string_064a = "\"** O.K., I'll bet a thousand buckazoids that I'm not, you wad of vark crap!\"" string_0698 = "finaleScript" Don't quite know how all that would've fit into the relatively PC version that was the real ending.. ;) Also, it's implied that there would have been click events during the ending, like the Beatrice holo mentioned above, and also the intro (there are click event descriptions for the aliens at the Magmetheus bar). Anyway, that's most of the goodies from the resources. Guess I should post the ZIP in a new thread, eh?
  20. Heh.. I could post another rant-length post about them. SQ6 has a lot of alternate ones, for example (easily the most in SQ, and some full length ones). Generally speaking the later MIDI games had a lot more space size and so had a lot more resources left in (you know this from your general trawling I'm sure). We should start a thread on SMC. According to my SMC archives, KQ7 has 28 unused pieces.. Zow, that's a lot. SQ6 has about 17. Although these figures are old and I know more about the resources these days,, that's probably pretty close. That's almost half a soundtrack's worth in just those two games. Although, they are probably the best examples too. And, thankyou :)
  21. Even scarier, I live in *Tulsa* now too.. :)
  22. Lol, Shannon was playing DrawSomething last night.. And I know I'm lame, but I finished SQ4 (disk) yesterday. I'm currently playing Pokemon:White, also Tales of Graces f on PS3. Sonic Adventure (remake) on PS3 also. And a zillion other half-finished games.
  23. With my $100 pledge :) Just on the art.. one thing I'm VERY curious about is whether LSL1VGA+ is going to keep the art deco style of the original remake. One very nostalgic memory of LSL1VGA is that it had such a great look to it, different to say LSL5 which tried much harder to look like modern America, and succeeded too, but Larry 1 has an almost iconic retro look to it that I wonder if they LSL7-ify it, if it will still succed or whether it'll either be too classy or too cheesy. Yow, that was a mouthful. But let's see. I guess the fact that a live orchestra is either redoing the old music or doing totally new music (hopefully not the latter) is in the same boat, it'll either be awesome or be too awesome (is that even a thing?). OK, obviously I'm torn. Someone wanna help me out..
  24. Thanks guys, and thanks for the detailed feedback Mad, I don't get nearly as much as I would like. I really appreciate it. How you doing by the way. :) It's funny you mention SQ4 themes, I'm actually working on a secret project which I may as well confess happens to be SQ4 (I finished the MIDI score yesterday, been working on it since April 1). There's actually, I believe, 4(?) distinct pieces that cover you returning to the Xenon Streets, from the ship, to landing, to back in the manhole, to some 4th thing I've forgotten. I originally had an "Additional and Alternate Themes" track laid out as track 42 in my revamped SQ4 CD, but I ditched it, since the only music I had in it was that 4 part "Return to Xenon Streets" medley. All other content (Back to SQ1, all the various pieces of intro sequence music, time travelling, Meanwhile in SQXII, Ms. Astro Chicken, and so forth) I believe I was able to fit into the 41 tracks, which IIRC totals 72:11 minutes. I tell you what I did find- aside from some interesting things in the SQ4 beta yesterday, which had an alternate part of the intro time rip quasi-music, sadly only a few seconds, and a version of the Super Computer maze music that was the same but different instrument volume- but in the CD version, the copy protection music (which is unused in SQ4CD because there is no UIVPPP) has an extra loop which is I think the nursery rhyme "I'm a Little Teapot", which plays alongside the SQ theme. Sounds as hilarious as it, uh, sounds. You'll hear that one. Back to SQ5- I can't remember now if there was an extra theme. There may have been some musical piece I left out for some reason, maybe one, but I have a feeling it's all there. The reason I did the alt track track is because there is a lot of music that only plays if you take the wrong option, and that doesn't flow in a musical soundtrack CD (unless it's Willy Beamish where you die even more than in a SQ game and there's different music for all of it- hey, you ever play WB? :) ). SQ4 just doesn't have enough. SQ5 alternate death theme- yeah, I liked it too, was a little snazzier, has elements of the SQ5 theme if I recall. I have a soft spot for the original though. I just wonder why it was changed, given there's no reason to have a death theme that's over a minute in length.. all previous games' ones were about 5-10 seconds! Starcon alternate- Hmm. I never heard it in game either but I figured it was a demo that was unused. If Roger doesn't go to the crest in time, I think it's game over ,but maybe it is a more urgent 'Starcon Academy' tune to give more impetus to complete your objective. You may be onto something. Let me know ;) One other thing- I forget if this has been mentioned, but SQ5 has a lot of GS drum changes, so part of the reason the orchestral drum sounds are in there is because I think it sounds cool and works with SQ5's music, but part is that Stevens/Clarke composed it that way, but sadly the game's driver blocks the MIDI messages from being sent and you get stuck with the 'Standard' drumkit for tracks that should have Roland GS's 'Orchestra'. Enough from me tonight ;)
