1. Ooh, I like this one.. Done!!
2. I'm sure I can accomodate your insistence ;) It will just likely be a bonus track. As for the soundtrack, working on finishing "Zondra and Thoreen" ala the QuestStudios' version, which was superb. Hard to live up to, but I will try. Puts us about 18/41 tracks so far.
3. The Two Guys said in an interview what would happen: (courtesy to Christian Giegerich for the transcript) My personal feelings: At one point, right before the temp media blackout, and during, I thought there was no chance. I admittedly was feeling cynical at the time. I'm pretty hopeful right now, though. At the end of the day, wishing and worrying doesn't do much good, we just have to get the word out.
4. Or we could run with the concept and have Scott write a fake letter ;) A somewhat serious, somewhat sarcastic and yet witty letter asking for pledges but being kinda sleazy about it. Maybe even quasi-threatening?
5. Heading into illogical territory here ;) Noone posting something dumb on the internet is worth getting quite this angry over. But yeah, it IS silly. And the whole thing is a joke, it's not like the Two Guys are even being serious about the whole thing, it's a gag, a jape, a JOKE!! That's all the more reason we need to get this funded. Itis something that HAS been missing.
6. Another great post from the man from the country that made the TV show that brought you.. beer milkshakes! I'm glad to have generated so much positive discussion. Many points (most points) made better than my original post. Great to see! Let's hope we can keep te positivity and help the project succeed. I still feel the KS page is a mess, but I guess it is what it is at this point and we need to improve/suggest things within our control to help the project succeed.
7. Excellent idea. Funny and positive. I guess so! I'm ashamed to say I didn't get it until you posted, Gareth. They need more of that obtuse sort of humour to get us over the line, I think. What comments are being made, BTW?
8. AGS makes a lot more sense. Keeps the vibe and nostalgia of a SCI1/32 game while retaining the features of later SQ's (i.e. 4).
9. Well, it's hard to say now, you confused me BB ;) I don't think he is a bad guy, more of a pawn, but I think his name was to in at least part construe (from Josh) that he was a bad guy, versus Admiral Smith or some other name. Similar to Captain Quirk, aside from the ST reference. I wonder if there was to be more about him that was excised from the final game.
10. Still, better than SQ ending on the note it currently has.. And thanks for the update, SQ historian himself! :)
11. "I never got exactly that Toolman was a bad guy (although his name does kind of point to that) but rather a military sort of guy who was a bit of a pawn in Sharpei's plot." ;)
12. My wife recently bought me the Sierra 3-pack, Lighthouse, SQ6 and PQ4. She also bought me over the last few years, the SQ trilogy boxset, and Mac SQ1VGA amongst others.
13. Well said and thankyou for your dedication, Rahul. I know full well with my website about working hours for fans and not for some altrustic reward. I wish more people would come out of the woodwork and do things to help promote this potentially awesome project, because there aren't many of us doing much (outside of the masses helping promote the thing or directly pledging, of course!). Anyway, kudos, and give Martin my best, I haven't spoken to him in years. Get him on these forums!! :)
14. Damn.. that explains a lot unfortunately. Hopefully that didn't torpedo the whole thing.. Moving right along, good news that we can see more info. Am i the only one who wants to see some sketches and music rather than play prototypes? :) Also, will we see a comment by the 2 Guys saying something ala LSL and Jane Jensen's Kickstarters, i.e. "If we're successful, we'll look at the SQ IP again, so make this game a reality!".
15. Folks, As everyone knows, I'm spending my free time trying to remake some Space Quest soundtracks for SQ's 20th anniversary, my website's 10th, and for the Two Guys' Kickstarter. So when I invest some limited time to post about this, you know I mean it from the heart. So, this is a mini-disclaimer saying I love the project, and want it to work, I'm not bashing the Pope, or anyone else associated with the (space) venture. That said- I went to the KS page for the 2 Guys today.. and I gotta say, it was a hot mess. Now *I* love it, because it has a lot of info. But let's be honest, for those who are NOT diehards like myself, it was very confusing and had WAY too much info in it. My opinions: (feel free to agree, disagree, constructively criticise- after all, we all want the KS to succeed) 1. The page needs to be simplified. Probably half the text needs to be removed, or the webpage needs to be edited and condensed Wiki-style to be more logically laid out. - My personal suggestion: All the backstory on the left hand side, for example, should be on the 2 Guys' webpage, maybe linked to, with more of an 'executive summary' on the Kickstarter page itself. 2. Too many tiers!! I know Rahul already touched on this with his "the more swag we give the less funds we have" comment, and I said we need swag so people will give their money in the hundreds for not just a digital download, BUT, we have so many tiers it's confusing for ME and I don't want to go through it to update my pledge beyond $100. Not only that, but there is starting to be too much swag. - My personal suggestion: NO new tiers added, rather, if suggestions come in for this expand existing tiers, especially higher ones. Potentially delete tiers (of course, this is fraught with danger). If you feel tiers have to be added in between to get people to upgrade, make it clear and brief on what exactly the tier adds. Make sure we have some alternate webpage that describes the tiers so people don't have to either use the long KS page or the complicated looking image. Alternately, simplify the explanation of tiers. Give a link at the top of the tier list on the KS page to the image of Chris Pope's and also include a basic explanation of each underneath, either in the image, or as part of a new webpage on the tiers. 3. News is out of date. The 2 Guys Facebook appears to be updated more than the 2 Guys' webpage. They all need to be in sync and have the same info. If people are going to pledge they need to have instant access to the latest stuff, that's why it's videod/prototyped/interviewed. - My personal suggestion: Instead of the news style currently on the KS front page, is it possible to change it to a Facebook feed, or the kind like we have here on SQN? http://www.spaceques...page/index.html Alternately, a direct link at the top of the 2 Guys' page to the 2 Guys' Facebook feed, advertising something like "To see the latest news from the Two Guys' SpaceVenture, visit the official Facebook page here!" 4. Final thoughts. I also think the KS 'Updates' section needs to be free of fan content like webcomics and stick to hard news like Protoypes and behind the scenes news. Conversely, the 2 Guys' webpage needs to be updated so the News section is in chronological order, not reverse chrono, and should include all the webcomics and such. The front page IMO should have the latest news right above the video links they have currently, which IMO are old news. Also, I'd love to see Roger Wilco's Google+ page linked to on all of the above, and imbue the KS with more of that SQ feeling (if legally that is allowable). I probably could say more, but I think that'll do for now. Curious to see what people think. :) Let's bring this baby home..
16. I think a lot of SQ6's intro is Josh's work, nothing to do with Scott. If I recall correctly (which I'm sure I'm not *exactly*, but still), Josh felt SQ5 had painted the series into a corner with Roger being a Captain and having his own ship, that his first objective when handed the reins of SQ6 was to put Roger back as a janitor, and this was the way to do it. I think it makes sense, and was a necessary evil to get Rog back into "comfy, reassuring janitorial duds". I just feel like the execution of the "tribunal" part of the SQ6 intro was pretty medicore and too negative One other thing- after the Tribunal, isn't Sharpei in the intro talking to Admiral Toolman? I never got exactly that Toolman was a bad guy (although his name does kind of point to that) but rather a military sort of guy who was a bit of a pawn in Sharpei's plot. As for the perpetrating a sequel line, that's just a standard Josh Mandel Sierra-style joke, I doubt it's a stab at anyone. Josh was never really about that sort of thing. Parody yes, personal attacks, veiled or otherwise, doubtful.
17. The only track I intend to not include is the "Return to Xenon Streets", yes. But in keeping with my completist attitude, it will likely be included as a bonus track after the closing theme. I may find a way to incorporate it into the soundtrack, but I think it would just detract from the flow, e.g. putting it between "The Stowaway" and "The Landing Bay". And I can't think of anywhere else to put it, and I'm trying very hard to not have optional tracks like in the vein of "Track 11- The Stowaway", "Track 11(a)- Return to Xenon Streets", "Track 12- The Landing Bay". But maybe that would work, thoughts please. I definitely want help wth SOME track titles, the example on the SMC thread right now is the Pterodactyl track, see http://forum.sierramusiccentral.com/index.php?topic=950 for more comments.
18. 1991 meant a lot to you, didn't it Ken? :) Awesome to see, great suggestions. Will do!
19. I think I know where you're coming from, but I always liked the Kehler/Grandstaff scores. Eco Quest 2 and Larry 6 are two of my faves from the GM era. And KQ7 also. Loads and loads of great music. Hardly a bad track in any of those scores. Now SQ6 is a mixed bag. I'm not saying it's the best Sierra score, or even the best SQ score, that award goes to SQ4 and we all know it. There are some bad tracks, in fact there's several, but something that is forgotten (I think) in such a long and large score, much of which is unrecorded in such scores as the QuestStudios score, is that over 50% of the score is very good, which looped is probably more than 45 minutes of music, longer than some of the EGA Sierra scores, JUST in good themes. I like the SQ6 theme, but I definitely agree it's not the SQ3, 4 or 1VGA theme. I think it fits the game very well, and probably the score fits the game well, being an experiment, a bit of a mishmash, a bit more serious and a bit more wacky, not a serious game with some comedy, matched with orchestral and goofy music like SQ4 and 5. I guess my point about SQ6 has always been, if you stop comparing SQ6 the game to SQ4 and 5 the games, and the soundtrack to those two soundtracks, what is left is a decent game with (IMO) a great soundtrack. The Orion's Belt themes and the 8-Rear themes are 5 tracks for example that are all very good (except maybe the 3rd Orion one)- 8-Rear Part Two is one of my all-time favourite SQ pieces. I think people have a hard time divorcing SQ6 the game from the soundtrack, and the comparisons to previous games and soundtracks. I like SQ6, so maybe that has an impact on my love for the score. Heh, and guess which Sierra composer I most recently got in touch with, Brandon- Neal Grandstaff ;) Enough about that- back to recording SQ4, funnily enough ;)
20. Sorry to hear that, brother. I had to sell most of my SQ coll to come over to the US from Australia, and that was disheartening. Lost some mint boxes and hintbooks, let me tell you. Thankfully we live in a digital age where eBay/Bonanza/etc are out there, and we can find mint ones again, even if we have to pay $$$ for 'em.
21. I think another point touched on by Leonard is that the tiers are way too complex. It makes for very confusing reading for Joe Spaceman who wants to balance a good pledge with some cool swag (sorry Rahul, not buying your Ultimate Fan idea, we're ultimate Fans for funding a game we know nothing about because of Scott and Mark). We probably need a PDF at the top of the tier list that describes the 'basic' tiers (or like the chart that Chris Pope did that compares the tiers) and then you can read down to the rest as per usual.
22. See, I think the SQ6 score gets a bum wrap. I think it's loads better than SQ5's for cohesiveness and variety, while maintaining a theme and having a few key themes through it, namely the SQ6 theme, the Sharpei theme and the Roger theme. I still like the SQ5 score a lot. But SQ6 is hardly much worse, IMO.
23. Means we need to add something to the 30 tier, or in press releases the new 45 tier needs to be brought up and pushed a bit.
24. I actually like this idea from Mr_Homn.. I must be going loony!!
25. X-posted from my website's forums: Second sample track out. Now at 15 out of 41 complete, so just over 33% done. Here's track 13, "Copy Protection Theme (The UIVPPP)": This only plays in the floppy version, although given the song does occur, with extra music at the end, in the CD version's resources, the song was probably meant to show up in the CD version too. Guess they decided they didn't need the protection. Not sure whether I'll change the second loop, or delete it entirely. Thoughts? While I'm pondering it, anyone up for helping me with track titles? I have some that are definite, and some I'm definitely not definite on.
