  1. For those of you who have rightly complained about the lack of a digital-and-physical package, they added a $115 tier where you get both: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que/pledge/new?backing[amount]=115.0
  2. I played through Rex and loved it. It got a bit stale towards the end, when you were traipsing around an abandoned city with just yourself for company. But then i watched Serenity, the Firefly movie, and got immediate Rex flashbacks ... so it must've struck some chord. To me, it was more like a Leisure Suit Larry in space -- something Al Lowe had threatened to do with the never-made Larry 8. It even has a "filthy" setting. :) And I thought the interface was quite good. I wish Microprose had done more space games; I tried playing their other adventure games, Dragonsphere and Phantom of the Opera, but they just didn't stick -- Phantom was one of their earliest games, so it didn't play very well, and while Dragonsphere was a beauty to look at, I immediately hit the King's Quest wall and couldn't get past the first few screens. Anyway. Even though Rex has a bumbling protagonist and an ever-present, almost oppressive air of solitude, especially towards the end, I didn't think it encroached on any territories, so to speak. Your mileage may, of course, vary.
  3. I just posted Doc's video on the Roger Wilco G+ page. (Here's finger's crossed he won't mind! ;) ) If anyone else have some public things they want to share on camera for the world to see -- some things that may be in excess of the 60 seconds we were given here -- this is your chance to let the world know. Throw me a link, any link -- YouTube, Vimeo, whatever -- and I'll post it on the G+ page. This is your chance to speak your mind about the new Kickstarter and the new SpaceVenture game!
  4. This is really awesome stuff. Looking forward to what's coming! Just reading about it makes me go all tingly in places I probably shouldn't mention.
  5. Hi, Ken. A couple of years back, I did a medley of three Space Quest tunes, the last of which is the ever-famous (in my mind, at least) Format Countdown from Space Quest IV. (The two others are the Space Quest III main theme, and Fester's World'o'Wonders, also from SQ3.) Now, I don't know if you did the actual Format Countdown music in SQ4, but that's what I've been telling everyone, so that's why I'm posting it here. The Format Countdown is, by far, my favorite theme in SQ4, and over the course of a long and amateurish music career, it's the one obscure theme from the series I keep coming back to. I just love the urgent, but melancholic melody. Anyway, here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b48FnH30nU
  6. Yo, guys. You know that semi-regular schedule I vaguely committed to in the Guys From Andromeda podcast? Well, here's some video fun to help explain what I meant. Google+ link: https://plus.google....sts/3XqBmwJ3Bdt Or just watch the sucker right here: http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMmseTnITWA Oh, and if you need help convincing someone that this is worth donating to, maybe shooting them this link instead of trying to write out all the juicy bits of goodness and probably forgetting some along the way may help drive some traffic to the Kickstarter. Or it might deter them. Use at your own discretion. Either way, massive amounts of enthusiasm means: A new regular schedule for Space Quest Historian episodes A video you can use to explain to friends why this particular Kickstarter kicks SO much ass Something involving hair
  7. "Backing" still doesn't imply what you're getting back in exchange. I'm sorry, this is just me being pedantic. :) I'm looking for a word where you get that there's an immediate reward and a future reward, which come to fruition if a common goal is met. Haven't found that word yet.
  8. Got mine posted. :P Akril, you could always just do a piece of "speaking fan art," if you don't want to get on camera yourself? I don't remember seeing "artistic likenesses discouraged" in the rules list. ;)
  9. How stupid of me. Sorry, Josh! (If you're reading this!)
  10. Awesome! Thanks for checking in, Mark. Great to see you here in the fan pit. ;) And yeah, this is, to my recollection as well, a first! :D In fact, did we ever have any Sierra guys on the old boards? Chipping in on a new website sounds like fun. Maybe we could work out a friendly contest and have a poll going right here?
  11. All right, so it's not "investing." But it's not "donating," either. What's a good word, then? The word "pledging" gets thrown around.
  12. Mr. Ken, Chris Giegerich wanted to ask you this question, but he's in a panic because his forum registration hasn't gone through yet. Or something. Anyway, he asked me to post this on his behalf:
  13. Oh, sure. Gotta have ice cream.
  14. Personally, I'm most interested in letting the past be the past and moving on. We've got shit to do, right? :)
  15. Paul, that was really awesome of you and that took balls. I'm glad to see you embrace the collaborative and reconcillatory spirit that permeates this whole new phenomenon. With that, I would like to apologize for my insinuations (in case you get a chance to read this). Let's put the nonsense behind us and concentrate on the future. Everything is possible when you're not afraid to ask for a little help.
  16. Excited about what's right around the corner ...

  17. Here's my list of things adventure games can do to piss me off: Throw in a quick-reflexes arcade sequences without letting me skip it (or adjust the difficulty at least!). Throw in a timed puzzle, where I have very limited time to do something. (Access' "Countdown" nearly gave me panic attacks, and I didn't even get out of the hospital!) THIS INCLUDES having the whole game running on a timer! "Freddy Pharkas," I'm looking at YOU! Throw in a maze. Any maze. ("Shadow of the Comet," you devious bastard you -- making a maze where the dead ends teleport you to random other rooms is just sadistic!) Throw in a 7th Guest/Myst-style logic puzzle that grinds the game to an absolute halt while you claw at your hair for hours, trying to work out which damned levers cause which damned colorful crystrals to align themselves just right, or some crap. ("Longest Journey," you get an honorable mention for not having the imagination to make YOUR logic puzzles hard! ;) But "Black Dahlia" can go to hell for all I care.) Throw in situations where I have to be at a specific spot at a specific time in order to catch vital information, and not have the decency to tell me ahead of time. (I know everyone loves "The Last Express," but that thing just makes me stressed as hell! "Colonel's Bequest," too.) Throwing in a puzzle with a solution so obscure, it could only be the result of a programming error. Or whatever Jane Jensen was smoking when she wrote the mustache-disguise puzzle in GK3. ;) Nice list, but you left out the acid drops. Man; I hated those. :D
  18. Frans, why don't you throw up a Kickstarter and see what happens? You could offer prizes like "I'll do your laundry for a week," or "I'll call your mom for you." :)
  19. Frans makes a good point, but that is precisely why the Kickstarters are so fundamentally different than what we perceive as "classic investment." It does play into the emotional attachments, far beyond "logical" thinking. Kickstarters ask us to give something extra for rewards that they're hoping we can't really put a price on. I mean, what would dinner with The Two Guys be worth to you, monetarily? It's apples and oranges in my book. If I were asked to invest in just any project, I would weight the pros and cons like Frans does. And I would make rational decisions about how much I could reasonably part with. Kickstarters play up to our emotions precisely because they want us to part with more than what we'd normally, rationally part with -- but, in turn, they're giving us unique rewards for doing so. And that sounds perfectly harmless and beneficial for both parties, unless someone starts selling his house and kidneys for it. ;)
  20. Yes, if you make it look like an electrical thing. (Big points for the Futurama reference, Cap'n!)
  21. For my personal sake, I wouldn't like to see this page wiped. Even though we're linked to from the Guys From Andromeda website, this is still a fan forum and free opinions are encouraged. As for the rest of the debacle, I stand by my sarcastic outbursts. Paul's wording in his post suggests he has no intentions of taking the high road in any of this. I'm glad to see that all of you, however, do. With that said, I have said my piece and I have nothing more to add.
  22. Hi, Mr. Allen! Great to see you! I have to tell you, the SQ4 soundtrack is my favorite of the series. Long-time forum members here will attest to the fact that I have probably played the Format Countdown tune more times than the Star-Spangled Banner has been sung at sporting events. I forwarded a question to Chris earlier today, but I might as well post it here. Some unused music files in SQ6 were recently recovered, probably due to the fact that there was so much space left on the CD-ROM they didn't bother deleting them. Are there any unused gems from SQ1VGA or SQ4 lying around the archives somewhere?
  23. I'm not for mudslinging myself -- I'd like to think those days are past me -- but Paul's remarks against Chris Pope just struck me as being a tad disrespectful.
  24. This just goes to show, you can always count on Jess to provide the level-headed opinion without succumbing to personal hyperbole.
  25. OMG (and other acronyms). Thanks, you guys'es. :) You can tell I'm nervous, right? ;) But seriously, my goal here is to bridge the gap between developers and fans. This stuff isn't going to happen without fan support, and I'm going to look damn well ridiculous if this thing doesn't follow through. ;) So thank you, guys!
