If this follows Paul's usual modus operandi, I predict a public apology to Mark, Scott, Chris, and the fan community sometime within the next 12 hours.

Ugh, hate to see stuff like this happen in a community like ours which is such a small niche of the games industry and naturally could benefit from the solidarity. Since starting work on our own KS, and following the progress of many peers and heroes doing likewise, I have been so impressed by the level of support from the fans but also other developers. It is in all our best interests, fans and devs alike, to make this adventure game revival a success and a big part of that is fostering an attitude of camaraderie. There is no benefit on a personal, or genre-wide level to bad mouthing other projects, but even if one were to take an entirely selfish view of the situation, it should suffice to say that when it comes to adventure games, it's a small world, everyone knows everyone else. Burn your bridges with enough people and eventually you're gonna be marooned on your own little island of spite.

Fair enough, express your concerns if a project looks like it's in trouble, but do it in a respectful, helpful manner, or you just make yourself look like short sighted a-hole. I agree with the overall sentiment here, kudos to all for your classy response to this situation, it's an honour to be a part of this community with you.

As long as I have a few days' notice, I should be able to make it to the Pledge Quest commentary whenever. I can probably even coax my daughter Bea to make a cameo while we're talking about Pledge Quest's Bea. ;)

Good point. The fact that Incinerations didn't at least win Best Animation is a perfect example of the drawbacks of using a popular vote for this kind of award. It's simply too difficult for a "smaller" game -- even one that may be creatively, artistically, or technically superior -- to compete with a massively successful commercial title. Yes, Space Quest fan games are a relatively small niche in the overall AGS community (one that may never appeal to many players), but it's a shame to see outstanding work overlooked.

There's a reason why we tend to place more stock in the Oscars (decided by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) than the People's Choice Awards (decided by...<shudder>...the general public). Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to produce a whole new crop of SQ fan games for the 2013 Awards, right? ;)

Jess is right. We need to have our own awards and give them only to ourselves. :y:

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the games, Ascii! They were a blast to work on.

I'd like to see more out of Roger, too. Design-wise, I'm not clever enough to think of something as cool as the Fate of Atlantis-style sidekick mechanism, but if there's ever another installment in the Pledge Quest series, it would be fun getting Roger a bit more involved.

I'm 100% to blame for the title. We established the noodle shop at the end of PQ1, and I couldn't resist the corny Little Shop of Horrors wordplay. I briefly considered "Vohaul the Cat's Revenge" (hence the alternate title), but I wanted something that would reveal as little as possible about the plot of the game. So, "Noodle Shop of Horrors" it was!

We're launching a Kickstarter soon for the expansion pack/DLC. Right now, our projected budget is $14 million, but a decent chunk of that is going toward renting a private island for development. ;)

I finally got around to playing both this game and its prequel not long ago. Excellent work :D but a couple of comments:

--It feels like there was a bit of a shortcoming regarding Roger the boyfriend. When he first showed up, I was expecting the game to have some sort of "sidekick" mechanism (ala Fate of Atlantis) where Roger would tag along with Bea and offer hints and/or assist in one or two puzzle solutions. Having him show up in the intro and then just sort of get left behind seems like a bit of a missed opportunity.

--Giving the game the subtitle "Noodle Shop of Horrors" is a bit misleading. I was expecting the game to take place in said noodle shop rather than Bea's apartment again.

--When is that expansion pack coming out? Get to work, already. ;)

--Vohaul the cat. Best. Pet name. Ever.

Simply gorgeous. The first shot reminds me of the Eureka from SQ5 and the second is totally the pipe tube from SQ3 in the garbage freighter.

Haha, having seen the couple of screenshots from the facebook page, I am COMPLETELY sold now on the look...
I assumed the look would be slightly different to the test version with the dome, but the difference really is night and day,
I think they've totally nailed it! Can't wait to see other characters, locations, etc.

Well, alright then. Now that that's settled...

...I expect to see every last person on these boards voting for SQ in every single category. *Especially* for Incinerations. Nothing against SQ2 VGA, but epic new Space Quest game beats out classic game remake every time. :D

Oh, and the two Pledge Quests, of course. ;) </kissing up to Jess>

On a side note, I notice that Vohaul Strikes Back isn't in here anywhere - I'm assuming it wasn't eligible, for some reason. Was it not made with AGS, or something? I confess to being ignorant of the criteria for getting on the nominee list...

    Hello, All.

Finally got around to browsing over here after getting involved in the KickStarter.

I'm a 39 year old Technology Architect for 1,000+ retail stores that you (or your wife) probably know. My wife & I live in sunny Southwest Florida. My first computer gaming memories go back to the Commodore ViC20 playing Scott Adams text adventure games. My first Sierra game was KQ1 (borrowed from a schoolmate) that I played on my Tandy 1000. The first Sierra game that I bought was Space Quest for that same Tandy... in fact, I've immortalized it. Count me in for a non-SQ Sierra Hangout. Should we all choose a game or series we want to talk about? Then share gameplay footage and discuss?

And I forgot to plug "Space Quest -1: Decision of the Elders" as well. That would make FIVE Space Quest-themed games in the running. Six if you count Cosmos Quest. Seven if "The Outer Edge of Earnon" travels back in time to 2012 and registers itself in the AGS database. Eight if "SpaceVenture" ends up in AGS somehow and does the same thing.

I approve of Vohaul Cat as a nominee.
