So there are a few of us already backing Papier Adventure http://www.kickstart...apier-adventure but I expected there to be more. Some people at Pinkerton forums have said they are holding back for lack of information. Recently there was a nice interview posted with some additional info http://alternativema...ycraft-studios/ and now there is a reddit IAmA being held so please come help ask questions, especially if you're holding back due to lack of info: http://www.reddit.co...ead_for_papier/

SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?

I would say links in both directions should be prominent. -
SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
penguinfan replied to Johnathon's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Yeah I suspect having the reward site split off doesn't attract as much traffic here at the main forums. At Pinkerton Road and Double Fine they have a password-ed backer-only area among the others on the main forum page. -
Rather unique topic, though it must be a really short game to be that cheap http://www.kickstart...cking-adventure What do you guys think, intriguing or not? Hm I see now that the theme is ethical hacking OR linux, not both in same game. I guess it might be fun for somebody just starting out in Linux though, like my friend's 11-year-old kid...

SpaceVenture Haiku, Limericks, Ballads, and other poetry
penguinfan replied to penguinfan's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Here is an odd one, and I blame Nockgeneer for it; he literally asked for it. Actually it's probably 3 separate little poems, since they really have nothing in common except being rhyming 1337-speak. B01D 7a11 7a1e 7e11 Dead 1095 fe17 7a11 C01d c01d 9a1e fe11 Dead 1eaf fade fa11 Doe5 1ead f0a1 1a57 Sa9e ca75 90ad d095 90a7 9e7s 1057 fa57 70ad b0a5 5109 b095 900d deed bea7 c057 1e57 be57 90a1 1057 ** 'Does' meaning Deer, as opposed to the verb form *** No I don't know what the f0a1 was doing with the Does, foster mothers? Or maybe mama horse was also towards the back, just not mentioned. **** No it has nothing to do with SpaceVenture, other than coming from the SpaceVenture comment thread; luckily Nockgeneer didn't make that part of the challenge. I will be in awe of anybody who manages to do a hex poem that is actually on-topic. -
Hey, when I was in college in the early '90s, the head IT guy was an early Linux adopter, running the library on an RS/6000! I wasn't into Linux yet myself back then, unlike one of my best friends who was working for the IT guy... thought I was going to be a hardware engineer rather than software

Nockgeneer gets editing credits on this one... he must be one of those geeks who excelled in English class in addition to math A SpaceVenture Sonnet Who calls the hotline, panic level high? a flooded client, seeking plumber Ace. The mighty Ace then rockets through the sky while robot Rooter guards their secret base. The water level threatens ever more, the lobby will be underwater soon! Our hero Ace pounds firmly on the door and whistles cheerful notes not quite in tune. The door bursts open, water pouring out! Concierge and doorman, elegant but wet describe disaster, how it came about but Ace calls halt -- no time for stories yet. An expert observation shows the source: an island dome descent with too much force! [1] My editor was skeptical that the line with 'concierge' had the proper meter, but that turned out to be the ambiguity of alternative pronunciations of the word. For best effect, use the less anglicized version when reading this poem, "kawn-syerzh" http://dictionary.re...rowse/concierge -
How has nobody else called you on this? Don't people read things through any more ;) Longtime adventure game and RPG fan, played some of both on family C64 (Zorks, StarCross, Enchanter, Bard's Tale...) Did not have a PC at all during the hey-day of Sierra Online / Lucas Arts, but those text adventures were so dang hard without internet for hints that they took a right long time to finish (ahem, some of them not until years later, courtesy of UHS via modem). So I'm a Space Quest newbie, but looking forward very much to playing SpaceVenture on Linux. Combination of adventure games and sci-fi comedy seems like a natural winner. Plus the community here is pretty fun itself, so that's another good sign (speaking of which, a certain NWN machinima IS going to get finished someday, right???) Oh yeah, I'm a Linux programmer by trade, and have a just few years to go before my Answer birthday. Then I'll have to start building a beowulf of beagleboards (or maybe pandaboards) to help research the Question.

Another one looking forward to SpaceVenture on Linux :D Regarding Apple, I had a PPC ibook which I enjoyed very much. It got assimilated with Linux as soon as I got it though, it was the hardware not the software that I favored. Not quite as happy with modern Apple after they dumped PowerPCs and started bringing ridiculous patent suits against all their competitors, of the sort that would have killed off a young Apple start if Xerox had been similarly nasty.

Well in a way it would be fair, because you guys are the hard-core fans who kept the candle burning before all the kickstarter publicity. -
Possibly Doug has calmed down in recent years, and worth giving another try? It is sort of weird to be discussing the character of someone neither of us knows, but if your conclusion that he's gone insane and gun-crazy was based on his blog, then I'd like to point out that the blog that's up now doesn't show evidence of being a gun-toting irrational fundamentalist. Well no evidence unless one accepts certain stereotypes, e.g. that all Christians are completely irrational or all American conservatives are trigger-happy gun lovers, in which case yes there is clear proof ;) A bit of counter-evidence on the trigger-happy gun-lover theory: he lives in California, and the self-described anarchist in my family will not even consider living here due to all the gun control laws. (She could be described as gun-toting, but luckily not a hot-head who would use it for other than self-defense; we do have plenty of hot-heads driving on California freeways who are definitely better off gun-free.)

"By winning, you will be inducted into the Twinkie Nose Tuesday Wall of Fame⦠oh and these photos will be included as content in our up and coming game. Yeah, you read that right!" Maybe you're all going to end up in an andromedan crowd in SpaceVenture, because all submissions were deemed worthy... -
The short-lived Earthworm Jim cartoon series was somewhat insane, but in a really good way. So I have hopes for more of the same, if it actually gets made, not grade B writing like Hubbard.
-
I hope Creature Tech actually makes it to theaters: an adaptation of a story by Doug TenNapel (who was the genius behind Earthworm Jim along with classic nemeses Bob the Goldfish and Professor Monkey-for-a-head) "Set in the American heartland, an evil wizard creates a space eel to destroy the world, but is opposed by an atheist with an alien strapped to his chest." http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/441900/Creature-Tech/overview

If multiplayer anti-cheat is what was really desired, they could make characters that are played offline only valid for single player games. But that's only one of their goals...

That's exactly what turned me off. It offends my sensibilities, even if I am online most of the time. Sets a bad precedent, so don't want to encourage it. Power play by companies coveting more and more power over players.

SpaceVenture Haiku, Limericks, Ballads, and other poetry
penguinfan replied to penguinfan's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Now there's an introduction, if I ever saw one! There once was a robot named Rooter serving Ace as both friend and computer. She could upgrade herself, with spare parts off the shelf; there was merely a need to reboot her. -

I have one more Limmerick (about Rooter) but I think it must be somebody else's turn next. -

Our most famous Andromedan pair were out sipping their beer in fresh air... when their dome was uncloaked, by some fans who were stoked to discover the Two Guys were there! Note: inspired by comic courtesy of Aging Still http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5fm5v4lrV1ryqkzlo1_500.jpg -

That slime poem is pretty fun; wonder if Mark ended up evicting the slime from his den, or perhaps made friends with it after the initial shock wore off. -

There once was a kickstarter board on which thousands of comments were stored, and its message was clear: "Sci-fi fans far and near, come and claim your buckazoid hoard!" -
wine should play a decent number of them, worth a try anyways
