In that case, count me in; I only came aboard in 2002. There was talks of an official SQ7 coming out back then, but the original project had already folded and hopes were getting pretty dim. So that's my "joining date", unless you count that one playthrough of the SQ6 demo where I was barely out of my diaper yet. Okay, I probably wasn't wearing a diaper back then. I hope.

Space Quest Historian Podcast - The Official Thread
Frede replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Thanks for another great episode. Really interesting content all around! Kudos to Brandon, Ken, Steven, LordKaT and, of course, my fellow bacon-muncher, for a fun listen :) Here's hoping you get plenty of women (I don't believe there are any transsexuals or transgenders among us, no) out of the woodwork for the next episode! With that premise, I'm looking forward to hearing it already. -
I like to think I'm in the "second generation" given that I, too, was around 14 when I discovered these games. But seeing as I'm now 25, I think we can chalk it up to a case of wishful thinking.

Must be the year the first "mobile phone" appeared. Though they obviously weren't very mobile back then, to say the least.

Mass Collaborative Tribute Video *COMPLETE!!*
Frede replied to MusicallyInspired's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Yeah, we could change the G+ name, but I kinda screwed up as far as the custom URL goes. That'll be unchangeable. I just thought it'd be odd if I went for youtube.com/SpaceQuestNet or somesuch when the G+ page is called Two Guys from Andromeda and didn't really consider the official YouTube channel till after I'd clicked. IMO, the best things we can do are to exclusively upload and repost fanmade content and point to the official channel wherever we can. -

I kinda changed gears on this one. Well, not really, but I found out the easiest way to create a new YouTube channel was via the Two Guys from Andromeda G+ page. No new accounts needed. You just need to ping Troels (or me, I guess) if you want administrator privileges. For this project, I can imagine it's considerably easier to make Brandon an admin if he isn't one already. So it's not a channel named "SpaceQuest.Net", but I imagine it'd cover the same ground. It's also linked to @SpaceQuestNet. The URL is http://www.youtube.c...sFromAndromeda EDIT: Added two playlists. One for the SQH videos. One for the Superfan Hangouts. Tell me if I've missed something! -
LSL3 is another noteworthy mention. Sierra could really squeeze a lot out of those 16 colours.

If I remember correctly, there should be a txt-file in the game folder with a version number and a release history, but I wasn't involved in that much programming, so I'm not completely sure. If you want to make sure, the latest version can be downloaded from: https://s3.amazonaws.../SQVSB/vsb.zip. Off the top of my head, we had tons of trouble with this area during beta testing, so the bugs should've been cleared out ages ago. However, if you downloaded the game directly from our website relatively recently (the latest version is from January 2012), there's definitely a problem. I'll make a note to check it out. pcj is normally the guy to page about bugs, but if he's too busy with SpaceVenture, we will at least try to make sure this gets fixed for the talkie version.
-
That's weird. You're running the latest version, right? As far as I know, we've had similar bugs regarding the sewers, but this is the first I've heard of in ages.

He did tell him to "buzz off". That's about as far as Dynamix thought they could go, I suppose.

Truth: Wolves don't worry about the throes of sleep. Yeah, I think that's how it goes.

Come on, don't be hard on yourself. You're a great guy, man. Preach it, brother.

As far as I can tell from various sources - e.g. the original SpaceQuest.Net and the Sierra Chest - Sierra was sued over the Droids-R-Us gag. They won the suit, but would still have to change the name to Droids-B-Us. Both Frans and Rudy have obviously spent a lot of time researching over the years, so I personally believe this story, even though I've never talked to Scott or Mark about it. As far as Radio Shock goes, you're probably right; Frans' wording states that the Two Guys were "almost" sent to court. I suppose that makes it more likely that Ken Williams, possibly after reaching an agreement with Radio Shack, ordered them to change that name into Hz. So Good. So I suppose it was mostly paranoia, albeit some well-founded cases of it, given that Sierra was apparently hauled into court on account of the Guys at least once.
-
Oh, I think they gave plenty of those after all the legal hassle they'd already had to go through on account of the Two Guys. Droids 'B Us, ZZ Top, Radio Shock, etc. I honestly don't think they'd want to pit their own army of lawyers against Paramount's ditto. They could come out a whole lot poorer.
-
I wonder if Sierra had the rights to use an actual screencap of a Talosian. Fair use, I suppose?

Same here. My favourite SQ depends lot on my mood, but it always boils down to those two.

I'll put in another vote for Space Quest 5. Great-looking, well-designed game. I like that Roger finally got to be a real space hero, even if it's a bit out of character. And I like the Star Trek riffing. The game's got a great retro sci-fi vibe, without being as obvious in that style as SQ1VGA. Space Quest 3 lands on a really close second. Between the beautiful EGA graphics, the atmospheric locations, the satiric plot and Bob Siebenberg's mighty score, I think that one was the best game that both Guys from Andromeda worked on.

I feel your pain. I had to break mine into bits and stitch them together. Had to do the same for my segment in the first SQH podcast. I got rid of all the outtakes for both, but by god, there were a lot of farting noises, angry faces, a meowing cat (yes, really) and expletives (both in Danish and English) in there. -
Awesome! Some of the computers have been cast and recorded, as have the Bird heads. I just haven't gotten to slap Andres around about it yet. He's the one updating that cast list. All the noted apemen are open for auditions, so you're welcome to send in some stuff. You obviously know where to reach me!

Agreed. We're in luck on Team VSB since we do have a certain number of professionals who've been willing to voice their characters for free. But we're down to quite a few uncast roles and compared to some of the major ones, they're pretty small. So they're not worth the expenses. Nor are they worth the time of a professional voice actor. Heck, the other day, I was thinking about giving those roles a go myself :P

This is for Scott and Mark. If they can't handle half an hour's worth of sarcasm, I'm not sure I even want to play SpaceVenture ;) -
I hadn't noticed that at all. Nice find!
-
That's funny; Space Quest 5 is actually my favourite, though it's very closely followed by Space Quest 3 (which you do need to grab from GOG.com ASAP). Maybe it's because Mark often favoured slapstick in Space Quest 5, and those jokes are easy to grasp regardless of your English skills. I was decent at English back when I first encountered these games, but certainly not more than that, so I may have missed out on some of the more subtle nuances of Scott's humour. Today, I find myself favouring Space Quest 5 because it, just for once, lets you be a genuine space hero, if a somewhat bumbling one at that. And the artwork and music are stunning all the way through. The design is pretty good as well. No puzzle ever comes off as too improbable or unfair. It does have that damn Goliath maze, though... As for my least favourite, Space Quest 2 doesn't really do much for me. I've completed IA's remake, but I've never had the patience to make it through the original game itself. It's basically King's Quest In Space and I'm just not a fan of the early King's Quest games. Labion is a dull setting, the game somehow feels more cruel and unforgiving than usual (kissing alien, anyone?) and there's not that much humour in it. Vohaul's asteroid fortress and the Alien-esque ending are both highlights, but the rest just doesn't cut it, in my opinion.
-
Yeah, remakes are tricky for some reason. Probably because a well-made fan remake can be difficult to distinguish from an official, licenced product. When we did Vohaul Strikes Back, we were never contacted by Vivendi, or once the Sierra properties changed hands, Activision. And we kept going for nine years during which we were quite open about the project. We only turned to near-complete radio silence once Space Quest 7 was axed. A theory that was making the rounds on our team was that the lack of a number probably cleared us. Had we called ourselves Space Quest 8 or something like that, all hell would probably have broken loose. That, and people have largely referred to the game sans the "Space Quest" prefix. Neither strategy can be used for a remake, obviously. But it is apparently possible to steer clear of Activision should you have to. Or maybe it was just all dumb luck.
