  1. The main reason for the timer bugs was that they used CPU cycles for timers instead of real time. Sloppy programming, but they never thought that anyone would still be playing the games long after they were first released.
  2. If there is a merging of the two, I would prefer that at least one normal forum be maintained. Blogging, even with comments enabled is too limiting for the community. If the blogging/social site/content management was in addition to a forum, sure, but don't kill the forum.
  3. Please. please, please, pretty please!
  4. Exactly. And ultra-cartoony describes what bugs me. The buildings look like distorted soap bubbles.
  5. Of course Sierra did games with cartoony graphics. I never claimed otherwise. I was speaking of current games. Too many modern games fit one of these two categories for my tastes. The sample of the LSL1 remake has Larry looking fairly like what he used to, But those buildings? Perhaps a cartoony style fits Larry more, but too many newer games that are supposedly of a more serious bent are going down this route.
  6. I don't expect much from Replay. I, too am turned off by the cartoony graphics. I am fed up with all of the games that fall back on such graphics. It seems that all we can expect is either action games or cartoons.
  7. Except that a lot of SCI has already been RE'ed. Much of it was originally done by the Free SCI group. Brian managed to make considerable progress for SCI Studio. The ScummVM team has much of it sorted out and documented. The SCI Resource Viewer is able to extract any resource, regardless of version or compression. Several have managed to do a lot of modification of scripts from existing SCI games, such as NRS, Endroz and others. I am not sure of another engine that has been more thoroughly dissected without having its source released. This is not to make light of the amount of work still required, but it is not quite as much as you are thinking. Without this huge amount of the work by others, you would be absolutely right.
  8. Unfortunately, without the game source and the tools to work with SCI1.1 games, a fan project to add a voice pack to SQ5 would have to involve remaking the whole game in another engine. Of course the existing graphics could be ripped, but that would open the project up to a C & D. I am sure that most here are aware that a talkie version of SQ5 was considered, but was given no budget after the floppy release.
  9. Shortly after AGDI first released their KQ1VGA, Sierra's (then under VU) number one selling game was MoE, even though it was not a new game at that point. Of course neither that nor the new fan games are conclusive evidence, but it does suggest that fan games do have a positive effect on the market.
  10. It is just a subforum inside of the General forum. Rath requested the forum and I dislike having so many forums listed on the index page that you have to do a lot of scrolling just to see if there are new posts.
  11. Or it got spam filtered out. You would have to guess that someone like Mark would be a lot more targeted for unwanted email. He has always been a lot more quiet on Facebook than Scott.
  12. Why don't you post them on SHP for those that don't check this forum? You can post them in them in the Bard's Forum.
  13. In the broom closet?
  14. I have problems with TSL, but I don't go trolling on the the various Sierra forums about how badly it deviates from KQ cannon and style. As said, if you don't like SQ Inc, ignore it. Most, including myself, do like it. Whining about it just get others to start ignoring your posts. Don't be offended and take this as everyone piling on you, but remember if you play nice and be polite, people will be more receptive to what you have to say.
  15. I have Ad Block set to delete that crap as much for safety reasons as well as to speed up the loading of the page (those Russian servers are slow as molasses) half a dozen images per post. I should probably just start ignoring this thread. They aren't funny, anyway.
  16. Another spambot.
  17. Try it with WINE.
  18. Just use the Resource Viewer.
  19. Spambot? Anyway, it's "they want to give the list" not "they want to gift the list".
  20. Is it missing the install files?
  21. The only one from the series from GOG that I have is KQ7 which came with MoE, so I cannot say if the GOG games are missing the original install files too. The KQ7 is not the same as the 2006 VU collection. It is version 2.00b with the DOS interpreter. What shipped with the VU collection was version 1.4 Windows only. Whether they tracked down a copy of 2.00b or used my patch (GOG has used my installers and patches for some of their Sierra releases) I don't know, but what GOG has is not a one to one copy of the VU collection. The other differences are that they have released them in groups of two to three rather than whole series and they include the original AGI versions instead of the SCI remakes as the VU collections.
  22. It is reported that my patch for the 2006 VU collection works on the Steam version.
  23. I think you are confusing it with CyberSniff 2000 and Al Lowe's CyberJoke 3000. Al has said in interviews that it was a novel idea for Sierra and SQ3 predated LSL7 by a good 7 years. The cutout snout was the gag for SQ3. It is probably just someone's false memory.
