  1. I didn't even bother to download it as I knew it wasn't the final release.
  2. That is the Space Quest for Glory mini game that was released a while back. SQ2VGA has not been released yet.
  3. The audio in DOSBox is quite superb. You have to go back to before 0.58 before the audio becomes subpar. What can be problematic is some Sierra SoundBlaster drivers, but this is often fixed by using ThunderBoard. Cycles are easy with SCI games. Most do well at around 10000 cycles. This is a good compromise between reasonable speed/load times and avoiding unpatched timer bugs. A couple of games need to be set slower because of initialization problems and the later SCI32 games are not as prone to timer bugs and can have increased cycles for better load times. If you do not set cycles for the older pre protected mode games, DOSBox will automatically set itself to just 3000 cycles, which is really too slow for the AGI/SCI games. But again, all of this is accounted for in the installers and patches. They set cycles to optimal settings and any audio issues are addressed. They really do make it as simple as install and play.
  4. That is the conf file from a very old version of DOSBox, so I am going to assume that you did not apply the patch. The Steam collection is just the 2006 VU collection that was seriously flawed, with missing files and poorly configured. The patch restores the missing files, applies all relevant patches, upgrades the version of DOSBox and properly configures it. It is the first thing that should be done with this collection. Also, ScummVM does not support SQ6 and does not offer anything over DOSBox worth noting. In fact, the sound is better in DOSBox.
  5. To simplify things for the owners of the 2006 Space Quest Collection from VU, I have made a new installer it. This saves having to use the original installer first and then having to apply the DOSBox patch to fix the many problems of this flawed collection. Now you can install the Space Quest games in one easy operation. Just insert your Space Quest Collection CD and run the installer. As with the DOSBox patch, if you place the SQ1 files are in the same folder as the new installer when you run it, the installer can add the AGI version of SQ1 to the collection. New Installer for the 2006 VU Space Quest Collection
  6. SQ4 was SCI1. SCI Companion and SCI Studio 3 use the same template game, which is SCI0. SCI Studio 4 was going to be VGA, but the developer gave up on it. If you cannot abide EGA and must have VGA, as suggested, AGS would be something to consider.
  7. Well, as I said, if you were thinking about a Mac anyway for other reasons, that is one thing. But I would still avoid Boxer. If you do not like fussing with setting games up in DOSBox, take a look here. http://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/N ... llers.html
  8. It's just not finding the IMG. You might want to mention it to Cloudee.
  9. And on top of that, drag and drop with DOSBox works on Windows without any special frontends or extra software. It is a matter of the Windows APIs. Drag and drop fro DOSBox does not work well on non-Windows platforms. Also, the Boxer version of DOSBox is more outdated than the official DOSBox. It relies on one developer to keep it up to date, which even if he does, it still lags the official builds. There are a number of things that simply do not work as well on the Mac as Windows. If I were on Mac, I would not use Boxer. If you like the game management/cataloging abilities, DBGL, a nice Java frontend/games manager, does this quite well without the draw backs of Boxer. And because it is written in Java it will also work on Mac and Linux, as is. You can use the Official DOSBox or any of the special developmental builds as is. No waiting for the author to update his build. Even D-fend Reloaded does this, but it is Windows only and I would avoid this one anyway, because it sinks its roots in too deeply into the system for my tastes. For retro gaming, if you do not want to use Windows, even Linux with DOSBox and WINE is far better than Mac OS. If you want to get a Mac anyway for other reasons, that is one thing, but it would be plain stupid to get one because of Boxer.
  10. Not sure what you are asking. If you are asking where, you can get it from GOG.
  11. Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, Temba, his arms wide open. LOL
  12. Not to pile on, but many SQ fans would find that offensive, or at best, rather juvenile. Don't be surprised when the reaction to it is negative. Some of the people in this thread have been involved with the production of well known games that have been released to the public. They understand criticism, whether justified or not. When dealing with subject matter of the Sierra Quest series you have to expect fans will have strong reactions to what they perceive as a negative portrayal. It is partially why certain fan based game projects were dropped. It is also why Quest for Glory 4.5 is nearly universally hated. Learn from it and don't take it personally. MI is an admin here. He has ask you to cool it. Wow. When was anything posted here that even slightly suggested racism. That is like some angry old white redneck throwing out the racism charge before anyone else can accuse him right before he commits a racist act for real. How do you even know what race most of the people here are?
  13. Well as I said, I have someone that is working with me to make Mac versions of some on my installers. We'll see what becomes of it.
  14. Jut remember that Boxer is not just a frontend and does not use an official release of DOSBox. The author of Boxer has tampered with it, breaking portability for a few tweaks for questionable "improvement" on Mac. Both official DOSBox and ScummVM run fine on Mac, but whatever works for you. BTW, I am working with someone to develop Mac versions of my installers.
  15. There was a similar thread on SHP and Rudy of Sierra Chest, who has made contact with a number of old Sierra people, posted this:
  16. Found this, which suggests a different address, 48677 Victoria Ln Oakhurst, CA. http://dosguru.tumblr.com/post/27268088 ... l-building http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40033+Sie ... CBUQ8gEwAA Neither show any hills behind like in the photo of the building. It might be possible to ask Al Lowe if he remembers the address, as he is about the most approachable of the old Sierra employees.
  17. Yeah, I had tried street view, too. Could be that since it is at the end of that long (private?) drive that the street view never got photographed. Still, the roof of the building looks right.
  18. Found this: http://foursquare.com/venue/9113359, which claims it was 40033 Sierra Way 426 Oakhurst, CA http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40033+Sie ... CBUQ8gEwAA
  19. I understand the viewpoint that many hold about the parser interface's flexibility, especially for dialog, but the thing that I was always irritated by it was that often the vocabulary was too limited, so often the games would degenerate into a "tell me what exact word I am thinking of now" game with the developer.
  20. Hey, I would be willing to write an installer for it when it is finished, but so far you are the only one to respond about my KQ3 installer. I think that an installer gives it a feeling of a more professional package as opposed to a plain ZIP or RAR.
  21. If you feel like there is no point in caring any more, why do you even bother to read this thread?
  22. It was a Dynamix game that had boards for a number of Sierra and Dynamix games. The LSL Collection Series included the Larry board. It was a 16-bit Windows only game, so no go on Vista 64.
  23. Besides, who would want to run the Win version of 4, anyway? It has NOTHING over the DOS version and the Sierra Win games were much buggier than the DOS versions. You can't even play the Win version on 64 bit Windows, a nontrivial issue these days and will become an even bigger issue as newer versions of Windows comes out. Windows 7 is in release candidate status already. As good as DOSBox is, it keeps getting better and better all the time. Run the DOS versions in DOSBox and be happy.
