This looks really, really ace. I gotta admit, I never played more than the first couple of screens of the original Gold Rush, because I couldn't make any headway in it. (And then I found out about the world timer and got really scared.) Regardless of my own cowardice, the game is still regarded as a classic -- let's just coin the term "brutal classic" :) -- and the new graphics look really sweet. So, what's next? Codename: ICEMAN Redux? ;)

Hey, guys. I'm giving this a shot on these hallowed forums before I finally cave and just rip the sound from a Let's Play on YouTube. Because I'm covering the Space Quest III soundtrack on this season of my podcast, I'm very intrigued by the different versions of the soundtrack that exist out there. We all know (I'm guessing) how the AdLib and MT-32 versions sound, because those are readily available for mp3 download from the SpaceQuest.net archives. But I've been watching a Let's Play of the Amiga version of Space Quest III -- and, knowing a bit about tracker music, I find it really interesting how that soundtrack was adapted for the 4 digital channel Amiga hardware. So, my question is: Does anyone have a high-quality mp3 rip of the Amiga soundtrack of Space Quest III? Like I said, I could just rip the sound from a Let's Play on YouTube, but the quality is probably going to suck hard and that would really be my last resort.

Angry Video Game Nerd plays an adventure game...

I love AVGN. I love him so much I did an adventure game with him in it. I'm okay with him bitching about Maniac Mansion. Another online reviewer I love, Yahtzee Croshaw, did a phenomenal amount of bitching over Space Quest III and I still love him. -

Cool, nice job! I always wanted a time pod figurine sitting on my desk. This, I suppose, is the closest thing. -
Blue frogs in the Time Pod NEW : Now (maybe) solved!
Troels Pleimert replied to BlockMaster's topic in Starcon Academy
Nice job, Blocky! I always thought it was some obscure line triggered by using the smell/taste icon on something, but I must have clicked on every single pixel of that time pod and it never showed up. For the record, I think the tennis shoe line comes up when you're outside the time pod on Estros. I seem to remember the Look message describing the time pod as an overgrown tennis shoe.- 53 replies

What, and risk having the Pope reach his long Pope-arm all across the Atlantic and Pope-slap me into Space Quest XI? -
Hey, kids! Long time no speaky. Just wanted to drop in and let you guys know that season 2 of my silly little podcast is up and running. This first episode I've got Bob Siebenberg, James Mulvale and Jess Morrissette in the house. And if you don't listen I will continue to speak in wildly inappropriate 90's white rapper lingo until you do. Linky linky: http://spacequesthistorian.com/2014/07/09/episode-13-fandom-through-the-ages/ Or just search for the show on iTunes. Oh, and, thanks to a kind soul on Twitter, I've put in an application to get this joint on Stitcher, too. I had no idea that existed but, hey, now I do. As always, feedback is welcome, good and bad, and if you have anything you want me to read on the air, this is as good a place to throw it at me as any!

Nice one! -
I've beat Tex Murphy: Tesla Effect twice now (and, I'll reiterate, I fucking loved it). Granted, when you try to recap the plot to your wife as part of your "using adventure games as bedtime stories" thing, the plot does tend to fall apart in certain places, and it can't all be because I forget details. Anyway. I still loved it. I'm on to Still Life now, by the people who bored us to death with Syberia. This one looks much more interesting, being that there is actually more to do than tinker with gears and machinery, and that there's a gritty murder mystery to solve.

So whats the news for SpaceVenture

Check your Kickstarter settings. :) Maybe you've got it on "leave me alone" mode. -

I just saw a screenshot of a location in the game that puts the "ugh, why no details?" argument to shame. This thing is packed. Worry ye not, gents. -

Yes, you should have been receiving regular updates from the Kickstarter page. If not, you can hop by there and spend an afternoon reading all the old updates: http://kickstarter.com/projects/spaceventure/two-guys-spaceventure-by-the-creators-of-space-que -

I'm putting this in the game as an easter egg. (Which will then be removed before release.) -

I just wanted to chime in unhelpfully and thank those guys'n'gals (you know who you are) who have stepped in to bring some much needed balance to the criticisms in the latest Kickstarter update. It's not that criticism isn't valued. I know the Space Pope reads every single thing and the team are having regular meetings to discuss these as well as game matters. No one's opinions are being ignored. But there's also something to be said for keeping your heads down and staying true to your vision, which is exactly what the Guys are doing. To unnecessarily reiterate, sliding/motion puzzles will NOT be the bread and butter for this game. The demo is NOT to be taken as indication of the final product. The demo was a gift to us backers to show what was going on AT THAT TIME. Anyone who has been involved in a creative process knows how unnerving it is to show a work-in-progress that may have little to no bearing on what the finished product might be -- you hope that people will look at the elements individually and realize it's not a cohesive package yet, and this was exactly the case with the backer alpha demo. Delays in projects are annoying and it's understandable that people are frustrated. Sitting on the sidelines making easy snide comments about what should and shouldn't have been anticipated is just that: easy -- and not helping anything or anyone. Everyone's hindsight is always 20/20. Real life just has a way of never turning out exactly how you planned. -
Does anyone have a gif of the "throw rock with jockstrap at guard" from Infamous' SQ2VGA? These guys clearly favorited this approach as well.

Very this! Not even the Pacman easter egg redeems this scourge.

The Two Guys have always done what they felt like. I'm acting as sort of a liason between them and my experiences playing other adventure games, because they honestly don't want to be influenced by anything else. And I'm trying my hardest not to inadvertently push them in a direction where we go, "Oh, popular opinion dictates that this and this is considered bad form or a bad idea, so we probably shouldn't do that." In the end I may be completely biased (in fact, I totally am -- hell, I probably love the Space Quest series much more than anyone would consider healthy), but I am determined to let Scott and Mark build whatever the hell they want to build. Because, at least from my completely biased personal experiences, that's usually what gets the best results. The Two Guys have been masters at taking something that on paper probably sounded like a horrible idea to adventure game purists and turning it into something that inexplicably works. I mean, they pioneered the arcade sequence. They made timer puzzles fun. They made killing off your main character something not to be avoided, but that players actively sought out. That's why I'm not worried. If anything looks or sounds like a bad idea, just wait until you play it. It could change your mind if you give it a chance. The whole business of the art style, I think, does boil down to taste. I'm sorry. It has nothing to do with detail or lack thereof. This other game we're talking about looks damned amazing; no question about that. SpaceVenture, in my book, does too, but in a completely different way. It's more crisp, dare I say more cartoonish without making that sound derogatory. It takes a no frills approach. This, more than anything, I think is a stylistic choice. It may not appeal to everyone; it may scare people into thinking we're going in a Toy Story sort of direction. I happen to know that's not true. Tl;dr: The Two Guys are punk as fuck. -
Thanks for checking that out -- I couldn't remember if that actually was an option, or if my long-term substance abuse-riddled brain had just made it up. Yeah, you're pretty much screwed without the gem. Well, not pretty much. You are screwed. ;) You mean this guy? :D Come on, everyone loves the MarrowMatic.

Will run on Android phones using this app: http://jjs.at/daily/AGS_2013-10-24_16-22-13.apk (No, this is not spam. It's just an unofficial app, so you have to disable your phone's babysitter option of not letting you install apps that don't come from Google Play.)
