  1. If I may take a step back for a moment, I think we can all sleep safe knowing that SpaceVenture won't be a cartoon adventure, at least not in the Tex Avery sense. It may borrow elements from that style, just as it borrows elements from graphic novels and the Alien movies. I think the predominant influence we've seen from the concept art thus far has been the modern style of computer animation like Pixar and such, but with a grungier tone. I, for one, have no problem with that. Hell, I loved Wall-E. ;)
  2. I'd be anxious too, knowing what was in there. ;)
  3. And I thought this was a family-friendly forum. A "reammaster" sounds like a very volatile career choice.
  4. If I know Datadog, he's off somewhere, weeping contentedly that someone out there likes his game as much as Vohaul Strikes Back. ;) I'm just kidding. Chris did an amazing job (and he was the sole writer, too! Well, I contributed a single line in that game, and others probably did so, too, but the major bulk of writing - and all of the plot - was all Chris). Incinerations probably belongs somewhere at the end of the series, though, in this "alternate StarCon timeline" I've been banging on about. It definitely feels like there's some gaps in between that need filling out. It's like all of the SQ community is still waiting for SQ7 to finally happen so all the other ideas we've had can finally be tied together. Also, hear hear for Mr. Mandel.
  5. Pardon my absence. Those look awesome, Akril! I especially like how Roger has his head hunched forward, the lazy dope that he is. ;) And also, the shading and the coloring is ... er, for lack of a better word, yummy! (Yeah, 'yummy' is the best I can do right now.)
  6. Someone (cough) needs to do a video of this. ;)
  7. I heard some people were giving Akril a hard time here. I'm here to join in on that. ;) No, I'm sorry. I'm just here to spout nonsense. In my book, pronounciation is an odd beast. Words like "laboratory" and "controversy" are examples of words that have two wildly varying pronounciations, depending on which part of the world you're in. I didn't know "Andromeda" fell into that category as well, but hey. I always pronounce "Andromeda" the way Barry T. Smith does it in Current Inside Copy. That way, I'm sure I'm at least somewhat on track.
  8. I'm not spoiling anything, but that's pretty much what happens after the credits in Infamous' SQ2 remake. :)
  9. Hi, guys. Not much out of me lately, huh? Well, here's something brand new. Google+ opened up the possibility to build "communities." Since the original intention behind the 2GFA Google+ page (http://gplus.to/rogerwilco) was to just post nostalgic screenshots from the Space Quest past and wax romantically about them, I thought I'd graciously give the rest of the world the chance to do likewise. Especially since the focus of the Google+ page has moved on from nostalgia to more current topics (cough-SpaceVenture!-cough). Enough smarm already. Here's the nostalgia channel for all you "Plussers" out there. (God, I hope they come up with a better name for G+ users soon.) https://plus.google.com/communities/108373190608713835984
  10. I think neither Colin Davis nor Josh Mandel would agree with that. ;) It would have been the closest thing to an official sequel, had SQ7.org come through on the other side. But the intention wasn't to... Wait, why am I waxing on about SQ7.org? There really should be a video explaining all of this. (And maybe one is underway ... hint, hint, nudge, wink.)
  11. I like it. :) The thought of giving other Kickstarters some attention, that is. Despite Kickstarter Fatigue now being a very real thing indeed, we in the Keronian Underground spent a lot of time trolling other game forums during the SpaceVenture Kickstarter and it's only fair that other noble ventures do the same with ours. ;)
  12. That was a great teaser! I agree with the speed of the crawl, and also the D in "Replicated" somehow went missing on the lower-third title card. That minor nitpicking aside, I'm really looking forward to your reviews! Be sure to let us know when the first one's ready. :)
  13. Hey, Jimmy. Thanks for stopping by. There's Keronian ale in the fridge; help yourself. I'm with you on the grime thing. From the blood-stained corridors of the Arcada in SQ1 to the dingy feel of XOS4 in SQ2; from the jumbled shithole that was the garbage freighter in SQ3 to the war-torn shithole that was the streets of Xenon in SQ4/SQ12, from the puke-infested Goliath in SQ5 to the gungy, smog-infested streets of Polysorbate LX in SQ6. I loved all that, and I'm completely with you on that. I wouldn't go so far as to call it realistic, though. When we talked with Mark Crowe in the fan Hangout from the Tennessee convention, we learned that the earlier games in the series didn't really have a "style," so to speak. It was more a question of creating graphics using very limited means that looked impressive. There wasn't any conscious realistic nor cartoonish style in play. With the advent of VGA graphics and higher color palette, SQ4 took the first turn towards "comic book" style graphics, but coupled with rotoscoped character animations and, again, a healthy dose of grime. SQ5 is, I think we can all agree, the most "cartoonish" of the series, and even that game was crawling with gunk. With SQ6 and Super-VGA, the character animations were admittedly at times very cartoonish, but the background art wasn't exactly Tex Avery, if you know what I mean -- and SQ6, as we know, was the only Space Quest in which Mark Crowe didn't have any input on the graphic style. What I'm saying is, I completely get what you say about the "dirtiness" of the Space Quest series, but I don't agree that that somehow made it "realistic." With Ace Hardway and the new SpaceVenture, I get the feeling the artwork is a direct continuation of the "graphic novel/comic book/computer graphics" hybrid of art style that SQ4 (the game I feel has the strongest visual style of the original series) wanted to be. The art style that we've seen at www.svrewards.com seems to be inspired by many diverse art styles; again, comic books being one of them but not necessarily the main influence. There are plenty of other games that take the "cartoonish" style to artful heights, like Day of the Tentacle, or some of the old Coktel Vision games like Goblins 3 and Woodruff and the Schnibble of Azimuth. Also, Ace works in waste disposal and cleans people's gunk out of pipes. That's hardly Tom & Jerry material. ;) For my money, the art for SpaceVenture that we've seen thus far looks awesome. But hey, if you've seen my Facebook profile pic, you'll know I'm a bit biased on this. ;)
  14. Hell, why not a video mockumentary? All we need is someone who can convincingly fake a posh British narration voice ... Oh, I have just the candidate in mind! ;)
  15. Thanks! Jess and I were actually talking on Twitter about maybe doing a podcast of our own (as you yourself replied to positively - thanks again). Because, hey, we haven't got enough spare time projects as it is. ;) Akril is a powerhouse of entertainment. I'd seriously be out of my depth if I had to co-host anything with her. Wouldn't get a word in.
  16. I really hope the Coles get their project funded. I have heard from enough rabid QfG fans to know that the interest is definitely out there. So, perish the thought, should Hero-U not meet its projected minimum, dare I say it has nothing to do with lack of interest, and probably more to do with lack of promotion. Though I haven't been following the Hero-U Kickstarter enough to know if this is really the case. Personally I haven't backed Hero-U because I have never been much of a QfG fan. In fact, anything that remotely smells of stats and character building turns me off. That's why I've never been able to complete games I otherwise thought were brilliant, like Final Fantasy VII or Anachronox.
  17. Holy crap, I had no idea that existed. What a great idea! Wish it had been updated with more stuff to fill out the second floor. Fun idea to have a 3D museum.
  18. Thanks, guys. It was tons of fun. We'll have a transcript, or rather a summary, of the interview up on SQN shortly. :)
  19. Wait, who said anything about me buyin'? ;) I'm going to work my PERSUASIVE MAGIC on your ass.
  20. Being driven by Jess Morrissette cross-country with Fred puking in the back? I smell epic road trip. And regurgitated airline meals.
  21. I wanna get Fred drunk on the plane and watch him puke in the van for the whole drive. Wait, did I just say that out loud?
  22. I like the idea of some guy cramming 10 European Sierra nerds into a van and driving up from Los Angeles to Oakhurst. Not sure if the guy would. ;) But hey, we could crash in the van. What, why is that a bad idea?
  23. I would really love to go. I already wrote this on the FB page, but we should really try to figure out the math for this. What would it take to get the European Space Quest fans on a single plane to Oakhurst?
  24. Ohboyohboyohboy ... DecafJedi, that's the guy who came second in Astro Chicken, right? ;)
