My father and I worked out a few ideas : SPEAM Simulated Protozoic Enyzme Activated Meatloaf (inspired by SPAM) : Space Kraken Eat it before it eats you. Xenobites Freshly roasted on Xenon! THE Supernova (Drink) Explodes with flavor directly in your mouth... literally. Burn-me-to (Burrito) Nobody's gonna have to pull your finger.

Uhmm... If I remember correctly, you need to use the screwdriver on the light multiple times. Two or three, I think.

My personnal review of the story (Warning. Spoiler alert) : This. this. is. incredible. I love everything, from the beginning to the end. I'm sorry for my lack of responses, but I was on a vacancy with family, and when I came back I realized that I was twenty chapters late, so I was not in good position to leave comments. I just finished it. My favorite thing is how you closed the gaps between the various time zones and Space Quest XII, explained why RJ was talking about Roger and Beatrice at the past tense and how did Zondra and Roger got together for the first time. You also completely ignored the fan games story, which I personnaly like. Some annoying plot inconsisties, like the famous "hum" Free "hum" Labion Terror Beast mating whistle, or Admiral Toolman's speech : "Your successful return of the SCS Eureka", are now explained, and they make sense (just as much as Space Quest makes sense). My second favorite thing of the story : the use of objects in puzzles. Even if it's a fan fiction and it isn't playable, it perfectly describes how Roger finds stuff, and uses it in a creative way. I can totally picture some of these puzzles in a fan game. My personnal favorite is passing the big red beast to get the Raphus back in the towing station. Absolutely hilarious. My favorite moments and lines of the story : Beatrice opened her mouth to speak, but before she could utter a word, Roger had jumped up from the bed and made a break for the only place in the hotel room where he felt he would be safe: the closet. Beatrice stared in the direction he had gone, barely able to even think. "I've just been contacted by a microscopic civilization living between the first and second toes on my right foot that says that I've destroyed most of their society by scratching that spot a couple of times. What do you think should I do?" "Okay," he said. "Now do it again, about...fifty-four more times." As he leaned against the inside of the booth with his teeth clenched and his injured foot hanging limply at his side, the machine added an additional line to its list of suggestions, advising him to avoid kicking BodyChecks as well. "Roger..." she said coldly, "Sludge Vohaul had a sex change operation, and the woman who's been dating you and calling herself Zondra is really him." "Did you ever stop and think that maybe I'm just a really lucky guy?" Roger asked. However, the someone in question had become so caught up in his own heroic euphoria that he had momentarily forgotten that A), the doors in the facility were far too strong to be kicked in by a member of his species, and B), he was barefoot. Then, after deciding that there was no way he could possibly make any logical sense out of what had just happened and no reason why he shouldn't immediately pass out right then and there, Roger was finally able to let go of the frayed ropes that were keeping him just above the waters of unconsciousness. I can totally imagine a game made out of this. 4.5 stars. Definitely the best Space Quest fan work I've seen for a long time. Well done Akril! Thanks for your contribution at making my holidays a better time. BlockMaster

Considering the fact that Akril is posting a wonderful fan fiction in World 'O Wonders, I won't be releasing the demo until mid January. But while waiting, just to keep you interested, I finally have some screenshots : And my Jerry's body 2.0 : The texturing is not complete, so for now the walls are pretty blank, but the structure is coming along pretty good. So be ready for... Space Quest Minecraft 2.0! btw, I want to know your opinion if I should release a YouTube trailer of the map. Anyways guys, that's all I got for now. Stay tuned! BlockMaster

UPDATE COMING SOON! I am going to release a demo of my map in a close future. The demo will contain the first(s) room(s) of the Arcada when I will have completed them. Just to give an idea on how the project is going : - Roger's avatar progress : half done, I still need to make an animation for the walking. - AGI parser concept : completed. - Texture pack : added EGA blocks, which are basically stained clay blocks retextured with one for each of the EGA colors. - Debug mode : completed with a special password activation. - Arcada wall textures : using Image to Map X to edit the map_.dat files, and then putting these custom maps into item frames. I'm pretty happy when I see what I did accomplish for the first week. That's all I got for now, and as always, stay tuned! BlockMaster

Roger Wilco - Over! ("The Stranger" DEMO)
BlockMaster replied to MiLO83's topic in World O' Fan Wonders
I love your SQ1 high definition, it looks really cool. Did you program that from scratch or did you use a special software for it? It Kinda reminds me of the Space Quest Minecraft map that I'm making, and MusicallyInspired's one as well. Not a so so fan of the other projects, but I did enjoy the Roger orchestra. It was unexpected, and the music is amazing. Keep up your good work! BlockMaster -
Support! :D I am anxiously awaiting for this game to come out since I discovered what a Kickstarter was (after SpaceVenture's one finished). Because I missed the demo, I have not many clues about what this game will be like. From what I saw on YouTube videos, this looks very promising. More progress updates would definitely be a good idea, and would give newcomers that didn't play Space Quest a better view of their game idea.

UPDATE! The project is back! With the new Minecraft 1.8 features, I am remaking the whole map. I managed to fix some problems on my computer so I can finish this project. The things that I will soon implement in the new project : - Custom characters, personnalized by armor stands and controlled with command blocks - A fully working AGI parser engine, where you type your actions in a book, like LOOK AROUND, TAKE KEYCARD... - Custom sounds and textures in resource pack - Lower resolution to mimic the EGA pixels? - Working inventory system with custom objects - Custom way to move your character at the third person, by making an armor stand for Roger, and giving you the ability to pilot it from a distance And that's just the beginning. I really want to continue and finish this map once and for all! I'll try to post progress updates more often now. Thanks for your feedback guys! Stay tuned! BlockMaster

This is great. Good job! Your Astro Chicken hate part was really funny (dang chicken), and the whole video was well-made. I loved the fact that you even showed the box contents, and played the game with the Andromedan glasses. You should make more of these, you do great commentary. BlockMaster

Akril did some pretty funny videos on YouTube with her favorite narrator lines from Space Quest 6. For one reason or another, I can't post the link here. Here is one line that I find really funny for some reason (even better when you hear Gary Owens saying it) : "These hermetically-sealed components house the Ascend-O-Pad's Direction Correction connections, the Quark Torque fork, and the Ascension-Descension Suspension Tension extensions." I had to bring this thread back. I have so many other posting ideas. BlockMaster

Most frequently-replayed Space Quest title?
BlockMaster replied to suejak's topic in Starcon Academy

I never thought making a topic about this would lead to a profile change. ;) btw, the Gabriel Knight parts were not so bad for me, but the Police Quest dumpster, gosh. If the image is not frightening enough, the sound does the job. You're right Fronzel about Klorox II. It's not really "scary", but the morbid atmosphere is one of the bests in Space Quest games. Especially with the computer logs.

Hey all! Long time no posting! I am still checking the forums regularly, but I was lacking of interesting things to post, until now. I was thinking about Halloween that is coming soon, and when I looked at some decorations, I said to myself : "Hey! Some stuff in Sierra games are scarier than that!". When I was still playing them for the first time, I found some of the scenes or pictures pretty frightening for a pixelized game. Sierra's artists did a pretty good job at that. Jump scares were pretty common in some of the games, and sometimes in the night, I was imagining the death state of Roger, in the state where I left him, haunting me, especially for some games like Space Quest I VGA. So the question that I have for you is : what is, of your point of view, the scariest scenes among all Sierra games, not just Space Quest, and I'll start with my top 3... Number 1 : In King's Quest V, the death music is really well done, but the ways to die aren't all that scary, except for one : the Innkeeper always creeped me out in that game. "Don't worry Graham, the Innkeeper will soon take care of your misery." Gosh, I always found him creepy, but he became even creepier when I found this video, where someone hacked the game animation to reinplement the unused Innkeeper death animation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niJZ4Z1cEEI. I can see why this got removed from the game : it is the scariest pixelised animation I have ever seen in a Sierra game, period. Number 2 : The zombie in Space Quest IV, without a doubt. "GHIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!". I was not used to the "newer" sound effects, and this totally suprised me the first time when this creature came to me with his skeletic face, eyelids maintained open permanently, and screams at the screen. Next thing I know, I'm dead, and the statement that recently appeared in a recent topic about it being future Roger is making it even more morbid. Number 3 : It was hard to decide, but I think my number 3 is the little animation at the end of the transmission between the Eureka and the Goliath in Space Quest V, where it shows Quirk after he turned into a Pukoid, with the creepy sound effect too. I think overall, from my opinion, Space Quest V is the scariest Space Quest game. The Pukoid affair is really morbid, and Genetix just reminds me of the genetic manipulations in today's life. So that's my top 3, I hope to see your feedback soon and see what's the scariest scenes in Sierra games from your point of view. Stay tuned! BlockMaster

Opened spore inventory item in Space Quest II?
BlockMaster replied to BlockMaster's topic in Starcon Academy
Yes, Troels, I know that there are some descriptions of the fish in the files. In my first post of this thread, I meant that there are none in-game. Dat Engineer, what did you try to modify in Space Quest II?- 29 replies

Space Quest references always make me smile. Nice find!

Or in my case, all of that, plus loving the amazing VGA version for what it is : an amazing game by itself. Go VGA! ;)

Stop thinking about it as the same game. Even if they're both called "Space Quest I", there are so many differences that it's like comparing two versions of a super-hero movie with different directors and actors. They're different. I prefer the VGA version for more than one reason. First, for young boys like I was at the time, a point-and-click interface was easier to control than a parsed interface. Space Quest I VGA is the first Space Quest game that I played, and the just-enough-detail trick of VGAs always caught my eye. The images give you enough details for you to be able to recognize your surroundings, but still leaves you with possibilities to imagine behind the scenes. The narration is absolutely excellent, and the death messages in the VGA version are so hilarious, that it makes me want to find more ways to kill Roger just to see them. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing; it gives a great ambiance to the gaming experience. I totally agree about the arcade sequences in VGA games. If I could name one thing that I dislike with VGA games, it would be that. On the other hand, EGAs can be really frustrating (don't ask me how many hours it took me to realize that I needed to type "HOLD BREATH" before diving in the swamp hole in Space Quest II). I understand that a lot of you played the EGA first, and therefore you like it more. I played the VGA first, so I see it from a different angle. Right from the start with the amazing soundtrack, passing in the part where a ship shaped like a chicken is chased by an interstellar mantis, to the abandoned amusement park of Ulence Flats (I caught that joke later), finishing with escaping from the Deltaur after self-detonating the Star Generator, everything seemed so cool, from the beginning to the end. Unlike other ones, I do not think that it stands out from the rest of the series. Instead, I see it as an intergrated part, an expansion, with new graphics and soundtrack, to the wonderful world or Roger Wilco. BlockMaster

A while ago, I was watching Back to the Future for the first time. Like any of their movies, at the start, you can see the Universal Studios logo. In that movie, I saw an older version of their logo that I never saw before. Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kx7JGbeqOI The first thing I thought was : "Hey! That reminds me of Space Quest 6 Sierra logo!" I'm pretty sure the Two Guys got inspired by the other one : They're both black and white, the're both representing a planet with a flying ship circling around. This is just a supposition though. Do you know anything about this? BlockMaster

Opened spore inventory item in Space Quest II?
BlockMaster replied to BlockMaster's topic in Starcon Academy
I know how games work, and that games do not "think" or "realize". My joke just didn't work well. This thread makes me rethink of all the things we think that are not in-game. How many of them are actually in-game, but just hard to trigger? Mind goggles with the possibilities. Also, I agree that it would be interesting if this was in the remake. BM- 29 replies
