  1. Keep in mind that Disney plan on hiring outsiders to write and direct. "The Avengers" didn't suffer even though that was technically a Disney film as well. But sure, they better hire someone who has the guts to do the opposite of everything the prequels did...
  2. Oh, yeah, and the classic: if he was an animal, what animal would he be? That one has to be there.
  3. I can't really find a source for it, so I don't know how reliable it is. The word has been out there among fans, but now it seems that Disney will be eschewing the EU in favour of an original story. I wish they'd just hire someone like Lawrence Kasdan (or Timothy Zahn, yeah) and try to recapture that ESB-greatness.
  4. Good question; the planned "Monkey Island"-film turned into "Pirates of the Caribbean" so maybe something will happen in that department.
  5. Definitely did not anticipate this either. My feelings were somewhat mixed to begin with, but I've gradually grown to be a lot more positive about it for several reasons. First of all, the continuing Blu-ray output of Disney has proven to me that they respect their back catalogue. Several of their animated classics Blu-rays are among the finest Blu-rays yet to be released. The days where Disney would censor their films for home video release also appear to be gone, with the exception of - a case of censorship I actually applaud; this particular gag is just tasteless and best forgotten if you ask me. When you combine these facts with Lucas himself basically being out of the equation now, I reckon we're closer to getting a proper home video release of the original theatrical trilogy of "Star Wars" than we've ever been. The elements needed to carry out a restoration are out there, but for years, we've been fed the lie that a proper restoration couldn't be done. Lucas' growing insanity culminated with him actually trying to have the original prints of the trilogy stored in the Library of Congress (!) replaced with prints of the Special Editions. I'm positive Disney treat their legacy with more dignity than that, so let's hope "Star Wars" actually gets to be treated as something historically significant, for once. In my view, the odds are in favour of it. Secondly, you know what? The prospect of "Star Wars Episode VII" excites me. So there. Again largely because Lucas is no longer in charge as a writer/director, but is observing from the sidelines as a Gene Roddenberry-like "creative consultant." Compare the prequel trilogy, where Lucas was in total creative control, to Episode V, which was both written and directed by other people, and you'll understand why this is such a huge deal. Obviously, Lucas is still going to be the one writing story treatments for Episode VII-IX, but there is a major difference between a short treatment and a full script. Besides, word has it that Lucas believes that this post-Jedi trilogy should be based on the Thrawn Trilogy. I haven't read the novels, but as far as Expanded Universe-stuff goes, they're pretty much legendary among the die-hard fans. It doesn't sound like a bad place to start. There's still a lot that could go wrong, but again, as Lucas himself has been taken out of the equation, I believe that Disney might be off to a good start. They certainly seem to have done something right with "The Avengers" and the other Marvel films preceding it. Bottom line: "Star Wars" could be (and certainly has been) in wronger hands than Disney's.
  6. This is awesome indeed. Just shared it on the "Vohaul Strikes Back"-pages on Facebook and Google+. Great job, man!
  7. You should also talk to him a bit about his primary job as agent for all of these great voice actors. How did he end up representing all these talented people? And let's not forget getting Gary "I got a letter from the Pope on my Xerox machine" Owens on-board.
  8. I want to hear more about how he got into Space Quest. He has been asking us fans why we love these games so much, had Scott and Mark share their recollections on the making of 'em. Now I want to hear why he loves this series, and adventure games in general. Also, since this is going to be a social media guru interviewing another, I think you could get into a discussion about the KU, the Kickstarter, the roles FB, Twitter and G+ are playing in this, etc. I find it a very fascinating subject.
  9. I know exactly what part of the game you're talking about here. And that was definitely the scene that got the biggest laugh out of me :)
  10. Heh. As you can tell from my new avatar, I've been watching a lot of "Firefly" lately, and your idea sounds a lot like the episode "Jaynestown." I'd love to see how Roger would handle a situation like that.
  11. Currently imagining cybermetal with Cedric vocals. I'm blaming you for this.
  12. This discussion brings back some horrible memories. Though I do agree that someone else could probably make the idea of an in-universe Wilco fan work better. It would also be a good device for comedy (like the Creevey brothers from the Harry Potter-series, for instance).
  13. Since there are so many musically inclined people here, I thought it'd be nice to have a thread where we discuss the music we're currently listening to. I'll obviously go first. Magma An acquired taste, but among my all-time favourites. They're French, but their music revolves around sci-fi stories on and about the planet Kobaïa, a utopia founded by disgruntled Earthlings. As a result, most of their lyrics are in the fictional language Kobaïan, which sounds kind of Slavic-Germanic, but also draws inspiration from scat-singing. Their music, dubbed "Zeuhl" ("Music of the Celestial Might"), ranges from jazz fusion (the debut album "Kobaïa"), over a Wagner/Orff-inspired space opera ("Mëkanïk Destruktïẁ Kömmandöh") to more hypnotic and lyrical pieces (the trilogy "K.A.," "Köhntarkösz" and "Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré"). They've also done a few wonderfully doomy compositions that highlight the often superb basswork, most famously the composition "De Futura." I've never found another band that sounds quite like these guys - this is definitely music from another world. Frank Zappa I've been a fan for a few years, but since most of his discography hit Spotify a while ago, I've been discovering a lot of material I'd been neglecting before. He was definitely a versatile artist, and no matter if you go for the avantgarde Zappa ("Lumpy Gravy"), Zappa the merciless satiric ("We're Only In It For the Money" and "You Are What You Is"), funky-as-heck Zappa ("Roxy & Elsewhere"), juvenile Zappa ("Sheik Yerbouti") or the mostly-serious classical composer ("The Yellow Shark"), there's lots of excellent stuff to discover. His death definitely left a huge void; such multi-facetted thinkers and artists really are far and inbetween. Rival Sons As you can tell from the above, I like listening to advanced stuff, but sometimes, I like turning my brain off and rocking out (and here you thought I was gonna mention KISS). At times, Rival Sons kinda sound like Led Zeppelin being fronted by Jim Morrison. They're far from original, but the songs are excellent, the energy level is consistently high and swagger and groove is there. They've also got a wonderful sense of self-irony about them, which keeps the proceedings from becoming self-indulgent - something some of the classic 70's bands could have used to a higher degree. Their two most recent albums, "Pressure & Time" and "Head Down," both have my highest recommendations. The former is a little more focused and never outstays its welcome, while the latter is more explorative, and may need to grow on you a bit. So what's in rotation on your mp3 players, phones, CD players or (if you're really awesome) turntables? :)
  14. I, for one, don't want to miss this Hangout. I'll behave this time, and stay away from Google Effects. I promise!
  15. I'm genuinely sorry to hear that ;)
  16. After a long break, I finally completed Portal. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. By the way, did you know that GLaDOS' "Anger Core" was voiced by the ever-amazing Mike Patton? Now, that's a voice actor I'd love to hear in SpaceVenture ;) Along with that, I'm also finally picking up HL2 again, as well as the Black Mesa. I echo Brandon's sentiments (I think he mentioned it a while ago) wholeheartedly on the latter. It's mindblowingly awesome, and you should definitely try it if you're a fan of Half-Life.
  17. I've written this story countless of times, but if you want my blunt take on it, Peter(the author of SQ4.5) might just have scavenged those remixes from other sources; Datadog had him do part of the music for "Incinerations," but it turned out his contributions consisted of cues taken from "BATTLE: Los Angeles" and "TRON: Legacy." Chris didn't realise till it was too late, but when he found out by chance, it made sense why Peter had explicitly refused to compose anything based on the SQ theme :P Of course, when confronted with this, he began rambling about not knowing his cues had ended up in those films, about how he was going to confront his record company (?!), etc. Not very believeable. I'll admit I haven't listened to the SQ4.5 soundtrack, but knowing this guy's track record, I'm personally taking his credit for the soundtrack with a grain of salt...
  18. Sad to say I'll probably have to bail. My nose is a haven of snot right now, so I'm not really feeling up for it tonight. Hope you all enjoy it, though!
  19. This is one of the few adventure games (not counting "The Dik") that has made me laugh out loud. You guys did a brilliant job - there's just so much unadulterated fun packed into these three rooms. So my sincere congratulations - you deserve all the praise you can get :) You're a great team, obviously. Any plans to do non-"Pledge Quest" games?
  20. Love the website. Make sure you promote this on the AGS forums :)
  21. Superfan Hangout #1: The Andromedan Encounter Superfan Hangout #2: En attendant Mark Crowe Superfan Hangout #5: Beneath a Steel Sky (Troels Pleimert commentary)
  22. A Music Hangout would definitely be fun. Count me in for that.
  23. I'd be up for that; to me, a problem with playing games while hanging out is that I tend play enormously slowly and do a lot of game-hopping. Simply because it's funnier (read: to me) to just act like an idiot on camera ;) So I think a "Space Quest Debate"-Hangout would be quite fun, both for us Superfans and for the die-hards that'll be watching via YouTube. If all fails, I shall get wasted and describe my theory on Bea's pregnancy, in colourful terms.
  24. Should be able to make it, then :) If we're going with the non-SQ adventures theme, I think we should decide in advance what we're going to play so there's no overlap. Troels has selected "Beneath a Steel Sky," and I'm going to be playing "LOOM." As far as I can tell, Jess will be playing "The Secret of Monkey Island" while Brandon is on "Myst." Sounds like Sam has got a few potential games lined up as well. Plenty of awesome adventure games out there, then - any other takers?
  25. "LOOM" it is, then. Since we have to play with audio disabled, I should go for expert mode :P I may be occupied this weekend, though, so I'd prefer to go for the weekend after next week.
