  1. I'm actually replaying that these days. Visually, it's fantastic, but I do think the comedic elements clash with its darker leanings. "It's wheezing and banging like an asthmatic dinosaur in the mating season" is a brilliant line no matter what, though. Back on-topic, I'm already torn regarding which game I should play. "The Curse of Monkey Island," "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis," "The Pandora Directive" and "LOOM" all spring to mind as adventure games that are very dear to me. Also considering "Flight of the Amazon Queen" since it's quite funny and wonderfully self-ironic.
  2. Great to hear you guys had a good time - I'll be back to ruin it for the fifth one. Let's keep the "Leisure Suit Larry"-thing going! Speaking of the fifth Hangout, I'd love to do one where we play non-SQ adventure games that are special to us and talk a bit about the genre in general.
  3. I'm probably not going to participate this time around. Let's see someone else have a go! I'm sure you're all very disappointed you'll be missing out on my cam-whoring :P
  4. I already thought I'd made those headlines after the last Hangout...
  5. The Skate-O-Rama Drinking Game You must play the Skate-O-Rama sequence on a PC with at least 500 MHz. No patches or CPU slowing tools allowed. Everytime you die, you have to drink a shot. ;)
  6. I know that more podcasts are planned, but I'm sure Pope will surprise us with some great content.
  7. He's vacuuming in the SQ6 intro as well, but that's obviously not user-controlled either.
  8. Well, what do you know. The performance of the MT-32 emulator is completely flawless for me in the latest stable release of ScummVM. No lag whatsoever, and it sounds fantastic. I urge anyone interested to go download it.
  9. Glad you enjoyed them. Without TLC, there wouldn't be much of a fangame scene to begin with, so.I think we're the ones thanking you :) I hope you do turn in an audition. It'd be fun. Our work on the talkie was kinda put on hold by all this SpaceVenture business, but I see we're slowly picking it up where we left off, and I would be honoured to have your voice in it.
  10. I think I'm gonna go with the SQ3 garbage freighter as well. I like SQ1 and parts of SQ2, but there's something about that sequence that just makes everything gel, making it pretty synonymous with the title "Space Quest." The Arcada in SQ1 would be a close contender, I think.
  11. Running "Command & Conquer" on x64-systems is actually possible if you use these fanmade patches. I haven't got the game installed right now, but I have made it work in the past. "Red Alert" is different story, however. I could make the (inferior) DOS version run in DOSBox, but the graphics kept screwing up, rendering the game unplayable. I have considered it, but I might always hold out till I'm able to buy a new computer. I do have a cheap little Behringer USB interface for recording guitar, and after reading your post, I tried running MUNT while using that as sound device. No luck; audio still stutters in DOSBox while using the emulator in ScummVM slows everything down. It's more than a bit frustrating, cause the emulation does, indeed, sound fantastic. I honestly can't tell the difference from the recordings of the real thing I've heard :)
  12. I wouldn't call it an old dinosaur. Just an Asus 2.3 GHz laptop with 3 GB of RAM. Performance normally isn't an issue for the kind of games I want to play, but its pathetic excuse for a sound card is indeed shit - as is the graphics card - and I am very wary of the fact that I'll need a proper desktop PC at one point. In that department, it's a wonder I've been able to create any music on it at all! Heck, I have to use ASIO4ALL when running FL Studio. The sound card can't handle it otherwise. Still, it's a sturdy machine and it's serving me well, so I don't mind the occasional performance issues that much. The MT-32 emulation is a luxury problem, really. I grew up with AdLib, so I don't miss what I never had. Besides, I assume MUNT will become less CPU-heavy later on; dinosaur or not, emulating a device from 1987 should not bring a laptop from 2010 to its knees :P
  13. Ooh, thanks for the hint, Brandon. Prior to reading your post, I was pulling hair out on account of my soundcard being way too ineffective to use the Win32 driver for MUNT. For some reason, the MT-32 emulator within ScummVM works a lot better, though it renders the gameplay a bit sluggish. Oh, well; what can one expect from a crappy Realtek chipset?
  14. I've only tried MUNT briefly, but maybe I should give it a chance. I have been using the built-in ScummVM MT-32 emulator, though, and that is what I based my judgement on.
  15. I really do need to get such a machine as well. The current emulating efforts, while showing potential, mostly sound horrible. I'll hold off till the day I actually have a stationary PC with a proper MIDI interface, though.
  16. You format your posts like one as well ;) Sorry, that one was too easy. I can totally relate to how you feel!
  17. I had no idea you were contemplating doing SQ2SCI as well. Would definitely love to hear you going Vangelis or TD on that. The thought is positively mouthwatering, actually. Any chance you can get started on that project sooner? ;) Spybreaka, I forgot to mention that, should you be interested, you can hear some of my own non-game music here, and my band's debut album can be found here, though apart from writing one track and co-writing another, I primarily did the guitars, along with some minor synth work. My contributions for the "Space Quest: Incinerations" soundtrack are also available for download here, but there are only three tracks on it that fit the genre I mentioned. "Bugs In the System", "Explorers" and "A New World." Check it out, and let me know if you're interested in my services :)
  18. Even an SQ2-hater like me will have to admit the ending is beautiful. But I also like the poetic nuances of the whole hypersleep-thing, like in "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the "Alien"-films. Oh boy, if only SQ2 could end with the (which was also used in "Aliens"). Seriously.
  19. This looks stunning! I'm really interested in helping you guys out with some music. Thinking my Vangelis/Tangerine Dream-leanings could work well here...
  20. I suppose it has to be for all of it; the $15 shipping costs likely won't cover multiple shippings. It is important to note that it's just an estimate, though...
  21. That is rather cool! Thanks for sharing, Alistair. I love NRS' patches as well. The timer bug patch for SQ4CD was a needed stroke of genius.
  22. Heh, I'm way too polite to point out something like that, but I've been called nastier things in this community anyway ;) By the way, is that "Fer-day", "Fer-dee" or "Ferd-uh"? I love that idea myself, and I do wish I could contribute. I have actually considered whether some of the resources of VSB should be made available this way some day (our Roger is already out there anyway), but I'd like the game to have a life of its own for at least a few years.
  23. Yes and yes. According to what we've heard, there will be a fifth protype and a SpaceVenture demo. You clearly read Jared's answer since you "liked" his post, so asking again won't make prototype #5 get out sooner ;) Also, since I can't help noting the nickname similarities... if you're the same guy as mward99, you may want to stick with one account; more than one goes against the forum rules, I think. Just a friendly hint.
  24. Interesting observations, Captain, and I can certainly relate. Primarily because I can't draw for the life of me. If I hadn't somehow been lucky enough to get a good team assembled, VSB would have ended with the idea. But since we made this game as a team effort, I can't understand what keeps other people from doing the same. There are some very, very talented artists and composers out there that just like working on games. It seems that some of these "rippers" just want to get famous from doing a one-man project, cause getting a team together isn't too difficult. So while I understand your sentiments completely, I fear that this sort of credit-hogging is also a factor.
  25. You really are a slob, Jess. What are you going to do next? Create a website named after a "Space Quest"-character?
