Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter update
MusicallyInspired replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Good words, Alistair. And a good idea to send Josh an email. I'll be doing that myself. Regarding the aforementioned tribute video for the Two Guys, here's a brand new shiny thread for it filled with useless information as a formality to just have a place for you to dump your videos! I've received Troels' video and it is absolutely hilarious. Others, please follow suit! http://www.spacequest.net/index.php/topic/657-mass-collaborative-tribute-video/ -
Mass Collaborative Tribute Video *COMPLETE!!*
MusicallyInspired replied to MusicallyInspired's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
I'll add that I received Troels' video and it is absolutely hilarious and perfect. It's utterly and completely sarcastic to the core and I know you know, Troels, that they'll appreciate it immensely. So to add, it doesn't have to be fake-emotional if you don't want, guys. Whatever ideas you got just send it! Doesn't have to be my half-brained ideas! -
Deadline: November 1st Deadline passed! Video complete! http-~~-//youtu.be/Uy_q4y1LiG0 Decided to make a new thread for this. For those not in the know, following the events on the latest Kickstarter update, I thought it'd be nice to make a mass tribute video to the Two Guys and the Space Pope for all they've done and are going to do and for giving then some encouragement and a morale boost. I don't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes, but after the...comment on the update, and the events that transpired afterward including the incredible level-headed and unwavering support from the backers, it seemed aporopriate to reinforce that support by blasting them with a completely unnecessary but heartfelt gob of sobbing thanks to the Two Guys for getting back together to make us games and to Chris Pope for being the great mind and engine that put them together again in the first place. My idea for the video is simple. A short video (about 5-10 mins? I'm open to suggestions) of edited footage of the fans being overly emotional about all the Two Guys have done for them and how they changed their lives. Maybe even with a lot of sarcasm in places. And then ending on a serious note to show that we really do support them and that we support SpaceVenture and all of their future endeavours. Something to make them laugh and cry all at the same time. :) I'll throw some sappy music in there too for maximum sappage effect. I might even compose something myself, or just use some tracks from the SQ games or something. Or if anybody feels like contributing music or something else then by all means please feel free! So if you'd like to submit a video here are some guidelines. -Make it about 5 minutes or so. A couple minutes of a comedic over-emotional monologue of thanks and support, and a short note of serious business and honest well wishing and support at the end. I'll be picking and choosing the best bits I find to keep it condensed down. Or if it all fits then I'll use it all! If we don't mind this thing going 15-20 minutes then I'm game for that too! But don't limit yourself. If you've got some gold then just let it all out! I'll be editing clips back and forth of different sections between people and not putting whole videos back to back, if you know what I mean...what do you call that? -Don't worry, it doesn't matter if you don't think of yourself as a particularly funny person. But if you think you can only be serious, then don't let that stop you. Send what you got! Likewise, if you don't think you can really be serious then just send in your sarcasm and wit. It will be used. -It doesn't matter what format your video is in. As long as we can hear your voice and see you that's fine. -If you have no camera but can record with a mic, just send that with a picture of yourself or an avatar if you don't want anybody to see you. That could actually be hilarious. You could make it sound like leaving a message on the answering machine and you misunderstood the point and thought you were getting money or something for doing it. I don't know! As long as its funny and or supportive just send it in! I'm wide open to suggestions on how to make it better. This is not my project but all of our project and as such should reflect the community as a whole and their ideas. Ideally it'd be neat to have the video finished before their Oct 16th unveiling update when they'll tell us all about why the game was delayed and all that stuff. Just to show that although we appreciate the update and transparency and that we might be disappointed that we won't be getting Two Guys gaming goodness for a little while longer, in the end it doesnt matter and it won't change the fact that we're still going to support them to the end. But it's not the end of the world if it takes some people a little longer to get something together. That's totally fine. This could just as easily be an answer video to the coming update rather than a pre-emptive one. You can upload your recorded video/audio file somewhere and link here to inspire others, or PM it to me if you're a wuss :), or you can email it to me at my email shine62 [at] gmail [dot] com. Also, I'll be putting it together, but I'll confess that I'm not the best and most talented video editor in the world and if anybody who is better at it and wants a crack at making it more awesomer than I ever could, you are welcome to do so! So that's it! Get filming/recording and send in your funny faces and voices! Good luck!

Indeed. It seems like that place has suddenly devolved into name-calling Paul. It's over. We shouldn't be wasting any more attention on him. Let time deal with him. We don't need to go on there insulting him. So back on the subject of doing something nice for the Two Guys, like a video as I mentioned before. Who would all be up for filming a 5 minute or so video/webcam monologue of encouragement and over-the-top sappiness and dripping sarcasm of how they've changed our lives with their comedic antics? Start of funny and sarcastic/sappy and then finish with something serious. Should I start a new thread for this? It'd be nice to have it all ready before the announced Oct 16th update. I wouldn't mind putting it together unless there's someone else who has something better than Windows Movie Maker and my mediocre video editing skills. -

Looks like it's already happened. The thread has been shortened to 2 pages and all of the posts by former Global Moderators have been deleted. They were probably banned as well. -

Here's the thread from Replay games for posterity in case it gets deleted. Moreso for those who can no longer view it. I'd think it'd be nice if you saw the support you're getting for yourselves. :) Link to the original thread. -

Never expected any more than that. I couldn't care less anyway. -

I doubt it. He's quite stubborn, obviously. Either he's being stubborn in spite of being in the wrong here or he lives in his own little world where he's always right and everybody else is totally unreasonable. I tend to suspect the latter. Some people have just never learned to think before they speak I feel sorry for anyone who's ever signed up to work with him. Sorrier still for those trapped in a contract with him. Anyone who has been let go as a result of his personal outburst should count themselves lucky. EDIT: You know, Datadog mentioned earlier about how there used to be lots of drama in the adventure community and it's true. Part of the reason I believe this backfired on Paul as much as it did is because we've all been there before. The adventure community has had quite a lot of dissention and disunity in the past. Between AGDI and IA for a brief time, there was some animosity towards POS when they first started, even the SQ community had quite a lot of what you could call a civil war for quite a long while (split right down the middle). And there are many other examples. Paul would have been right at home during that time. We've all been there and we've all grown up and put it behind us. The reason these Kickstarters have been so successful is because we've all banded together to see it happen. All across the board. We're done with fighting amongst one another and that'll be the day we let somebody come along and ruin the good thing we've created for ourselves. We've shown that we won't be dragged down to that petty pit again. Cheers, guys. This is why we have overcome and why SpaceVenture will succeed (and why Paul Trowe won't). -

It's funny, not even that many people were really being insulting to him. Just giving him advice and asking him to stop being a douche. He obviously thinks everyone is like him. Nothing but negative things to say. Really shows how much bigger even SQ fans are than this man. I feel like we as a community and backers of SV should do something really nice for the 2 Guys and the Pope to show them our support. I don't think of us as merely backers and consumers, I think of us all as a community who pulled together WITH the Two Guys to see this happen. I really consider them brothers in arms rather than (ironically) somebody I expect to get my money's worth from. I want to see SV happen as much as they do and I know I'm not the only one. So we should do something nice to show them we not only support them but that we've got their backs. A nice montage video of all of us wishing them the best with motivational sappy music behind us (which has tremendous comedic potential as well for double effect! Heartfelt and honest but overly sappy and emotional monologues lol. That would be right up their alley I'd think), or a fangame just for them, or put together something...some kind of article...some nice notion and promote it everywhere so that it gets notoriety. Don't mention Paul or criticism or anything. Just give them some much needed motivation, encouragement, and love. Their efforts aren't unnoticed nor in vain. Because besides the latest criticism, it seems like they need it. What do you think? -

I can't say anymore than what's been said already. I'm sorry you guys got punished so badly because of something that I thought was supposed to be an act of an average consumer and not the head of a company. Paul is a small man with a (temporary) big position. I can't believe how petty he's reacted to this. -

It only proves that he's two-faced and considers the truth less important than making himself look good. You can't trust anything he says. And that hurts his whole company. I'm glad I'm not one of his backers. I'm sorry, Al and Josh and everyone are great over there but he spoils the whole group in my eyes, being the head of it all. I don't trust him or anything he's involved with. -

Ditto. I'm so sick of this guy. Every time you think he's gone he comes back. He sounds like a 12-year-old. Also, why hasn't he gone after Pinkerton Road and Phoenix Online for the GK1 remake? You'd think he'd be all over criticising them as HE'S obviously supposed to be the one taking on all licenses for old Sierra remakes and sequels. I'm surprised he's so quiet about it. Or even Moebius. Why isn't he upset with Jane Jensen for not joining him? Or Jim Walls and Precinct? Why does he dislike SpaceVenture and co so much? -

Why does he hate it so much, though? Just because they're not working with him instead? I mean honestly, I would have loved to see a new Space Quest (not a remake), but I'm much more excited about a new game. And I believe in them to finish. Also, you just posted on a public forum so anyone can read it. :) And Paul has been here before. -

Paul Troll again? I thought the hatchet was buried and a deal made (as stated by Josh Mandel) that would insure his silence. It's not fair. 2GFA and Chris Pope have been nothing but supportive of Replay's endeavours (even advertising and promoting then in their updates) and, as far as I know, haven't said a single negative thing against them, have they? Is he really just so butthurt over them not joining forces with Replay? Or is he really just a troll? I just don't get it. If you don't like it then fine, but leave us alone who are grateful and trying to enjoy it. Wait until it fails, at least, before badmouthing it. -
This is apparently "Mystery Game X" that Jane Jensen and Pinkerton Road Studios have been teasing since their Kickstarter. The backgrounds look amazing and the remade theme song is quite good as well. Website Interview with Jane Jensen

Not sure if this has been posted, or how new this is. Filled with a lot of interesting information that basically confirms what I'd guessed all along. The higher ups just never cared about games. I'm truly sad to read about what 1313 was going to be and what it didn't have the chance to become. This kind of behaviour is so rampant in the entire gaming industry today and is why I still kind of believe that the market will crash again as a result. You can only destroy good projects and screw over loyal fanbases so long before finally they'll wake up and get sick of it. At least, I'd hope so. Good developers and names that were gaming's biggest and best disappear as a result and in their place we have snobby douchebag companies (really, the suits and higher ups/execs) that couldn't give a care about any of it as long as it follows marketing research enough to not be too big a risk so they can make money. It's truly sad and astonishing that this type of leadership, the lies, the betrayal, and the apathy is allowed to continue. It's truly disgusting and I almost feel like we should all be boycotting it entirely until it fixes itself. But I know that's just being naive as to how the industry works and, really, has always worked. It's just that every now and then good things are allowed to happen (Monkey Island, Duke Nukem 3D, Space Quest, tons of other great titles and franchises) and slip under the radar, past the clutches of the great hungry corporate monster and the greedy intruding fingers of the manipulators and meddlers. It's all so disgusting. I'm glad I've never been buying that many games lately in the past few years. I'd shudder to think that I'd actually purchased Sim City after what happened to that. I'm too afraid to buy anything anymore because you never know what will happen. http://kotaku.com/ho...part-1401731043 A particular quote of painful news:

Does anyone have high quality (clean) box scans?

Any news on the availability of the unmodified file? Laserschwerts expressed his willingness to help and work his magic on them if the unmodified files are available. -
Oh right. Interesting anyway, though.

Ahh...that makes sense. You just wait to pick up the unstable ordinance until you get back to SQ12 later on and fly back up the ship, never taking the ordinance down the sewer vent. Neat. I've never tried that.
