I've been in contact with Chris about the SQ community Minecraft server idea. I'm currently putting things together for that. During my work on that I discovered a server plugin that allows the Minecraft in-game server chat to link with any IRC channel you desire and vice versa. So even if someone doesn't have Minecraft, chatting with the general public from the game and fans chatting with the Two Guys from the outside can still be an option. That would be a neat option to have in the future sometime.

SPACE QUEST 5: Story Structure and Plot Point Flaws
MusicallyInspired replied to bugle_truffle1's topic in Starcon Academy
Hah. It's amazing how different our tastes are, Alistair. I believe the main theme in SQ6 to be the most boring of them all. It just sounded so generic and lazy to me. Nothing special about it at all. Just filler music. It didn't have the epic feeling of either SQ4 or SQ1VGA's themes nor the catch-iness of SQ3's. Or even the simple elegance of SQ1 and SQ2's! It was just lifeless. To be fair, SQ5's theme wasn't that great either, being just a slight alteration of Star Trek TOS's theme without any hint of the SQ theme at all anywhere. But SQ6 made even less of an impact on me music-wise. I think the least of any Sierra game I've played, actually. Except maybe KQ7. I just never cared for Dan Kehler or Neil Grandstaff's scores. They didn't have the "something special" that the earlier Sierra composers had. -
Wow. That's terrible! I don't know how I would react. I freaked out when my basement flooded and all my CD jewel case sleeves/manuals got soaked with water. I dried them all out but now they're all deformed....I couldn't imagine what I would do if any of my boxes ended up that way...

The idea of an exclusive club and a hidden forum appeals greatly to potential backers. The promise of exclusive look at ongoing content and design aspects for DFA was instrumental to its success, I'm convinced.

SpaceVenture News and Rumours
MusicallyInspired replied to JamonBull's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Exciting! If we got over two fifths of the goal pledged now without all that media attention, perhaps we'll be getting even more with it? -
I thought it was great! But I also share the criticisms of some others here. Not everyone understands these prototypes, sadly. I think DFA had it right by not showing anything until after the Kickstarter was over and then only to the backers. Even now backers are complaining in the hidden forum about tons of stupid things, but it's too late to take back their pledges now :). They will see the good of the product at the end of the line, though. However, for SpaceVenture, they have the opportunity to opt out on a whim. Sad but true fact.

I'm Brandon Blume. I'm 27 and live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I work for a government funded non-profit organization working with people with special needs. I grew up on the east coast provinces of Canada. I never had video game consoles when I was young, instead my dad was really into computers and had a Tandy Color Computer 3 and also a Tandy 1000. I remember games like Pac-Man, Pooyan, Zaxxon, Thexder, Silpheed, Super Pitfall, Downland, A Mazing World of Malcom Mortar, 3-Demon, Rampage, Rescue on Fractalus, and Kingdom of Kroz. I remember clearly the day when he upgraded the ram on the Tandy 1000 to 64k or some small number like that. There was much rejoicing. Anyway, our favourite games to play were adventure games and the best ones were King's Quest, Space Quest, and Maniac Mansion. Space Quest ended up being my favourite because it was science fiction and the artwork was so gripping, for the time. The music of Space Quest and the other Sierra games inspired me to get into recording and composing myself. I've since made the soundtracks for the King's Quest III Redux and Space Quest II remakes. Currently working on my first score for a commercial game by Himalaya Studios called Mage's Initiation.

Realistic SQ4 soundtrack?! DUDE. EastWest is the best I've ever heard. I also have Garriton Personal Orchestra and Edirol Orchestral and neither of them light a candle to its vast and excellent sounding library. However, you can spot EastWest a mile away and everything that uses it sounds all the same. I've never had the pleasure of trying the ones Vega mentioned. There's just never enough money. sigh

There is chat, but there isn't alternate skins like there was with the Good Old Adventures chat, sadly. I miss that.

SQ1: The Minecraft Encounter

Very nice. Though, a little empty and simple. Still, it's the Aluminum Mallard! Great fanwork. -

Yes, I do agree it was better than SQ6's. -

Moon Sci-Lab is the most popular song from that game. Now I know why! Here are those same tracks recorded from the SC-55. Slightly different. Any of these sound more familiar? Moon Sci-Lab Mission Briefing Venus Lab -
Nice stuff.

I've decided to release the regular game soundtrack seeing as the Special Edition OST is taking longer than I had hoped (but I still plan on finishing). This is the original music pack that was used for the game itself. It's got all the music files in there. I don't have all the masters anymore so these aren't the highest quality, but they are listenable and should do for people who have been waiting a while. The special edition soundtrack is not finished yet and will be a while still. Hopefully this can hold people over until it gets done finally. Please note that this is quickly slapped together and not organized at all. But everything should be there. I also included an instrumental version of Coming Home as a bonus. I know the SE soundtrack has been taking a while and I apologize. Full plate and all. I still intend to finish it, though. KQ3 Redux Soundtrack (game music files) - ZIP 57.4 MB

Not me! I'm still acquiring myself! I recall actually someone on this forum years ago offered me a copy of the SQ Companion, and also some SQ boxes from someone else (I think it was Frans actually!). But that never happened :). I just got my SQ4 3.5" VGA disks in the mail yesterday. The only thing that would make it more complete is if I found the original SQ4 3.5"/5.25" 16 colour disks. -

The SQ5 soundtrack really was going for that 60's Star Trek feel, which it succeeded. But yeah, not the highlight of the game for me, for sure. Fun game, though. Decent plot, nice graphics. Kiz Urazgubi was a fantastic sequence. Probably my favourite. Reminded me of Kirk and the Gorn. Doesn't beat SQ4, though. That had everything. -
The movies, maybe. But that's like less than 5% of the Star Trek universe of media.

That was one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen! Nice video. :)
