Yeah....except it was a complete blatant rip-off/parody of the ending to Alien. ;) SQ2 did segue very nicely into SQ3, though, and had a great atmosphere. One of my favourite things honestly from Space Quest was the artwork by Mark Crowe. So distinct. So retro futuristic. It had a great look. All of the vector stuff I'm talking about, mostly. I don't know what kind of artwork he did in SQ4, that was great too. But there was something about the graphics from the first three. The limited palette really added to it. To this day I still think the original black box Space Quest logo (red outlined letters with blue star + starfield inside) to be the most amazing sci-fi logo ever. I loved that it was used again for the EGA version of SQ4, as it was in SQ1AGI.

It's like a work-in-progress demo. We're getting to see how they're coming along. That's how I took it, anyway. It's like the art and programming direction updates on the DFA backer forums except this time it's interactive! -
SQ1 - Kerona Underground HL2:EP2 Map
MusicallyInspired replied to MusicallyInspired's topic in World O' Fan Wonders
I may get to it at some point. I have literally dozens of little "projects" like this that I've started in my spare time and never finished. Just messing around with, you know? To see if I can be any good at it. Someday I may go back to it. This was really my first HL2 map ever. -
HTML5 is far more capable than Flash. Flash is antiquated and needs to die. The final game in EXE form, even if it's in HTML5, will run just as smoothly as anything else. You won't even notice the difference. A game is a game. If people can accept Flash games as commercial (Machinarium, The Binding of Isaac, etc) then certainly they should be accepting of the far more versatile and capable HTML5.

I forgot all about this. I attempted to make a map in HL2:EP2 of the Kerona underground tunnels. Never got very far. Still have the source files, though. I started working on the next room after this with the acid pool but I had trouble getting water to work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UXQ7z6H4NQ

The graphics in all three Microprose adventure games were fantastic. Especially the animations. Very smooth and fluid. Prisoner of Ice also had very smooth animation like this (though that was prerendered, actually the Microprose games may have been pre-rendered as well, I don't know, but it didn't look like it).

Ken "your music pal" Allen says "HI"
MusicallyInspired replied to mrkenallen's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Wow! Would you happen to know which tracks you did specifically? I have the soundtracks to both Descent games up on a website I created for SC-55 music packs. http://sc55.duke4.net/descent.php -
No, Sierra never did. But a lot of games nowadays do. For instance, a slew of first person shooters have object highlighting so you can notice them in the world. At least there's the option to turn it off, though. Even Telltale's The Walking Dead game has object highlighting. Ridiculousness, if you ask me. Even KQ7 had this to some degree, though. When you hover over objects that are intractable the wand cursor starts glowing and animating, while earlier games wouldn't tell you one way or the other if an object was interactable or not. This gave you much more narration and descriptions on areas. KQ7's non-animating cursor might as well be the big annoying red X from SQ4, SQ1VGA, and KQ5 when you can't interact with something. That's a slightly different issue, though. I was specifically talking about objects in the game world lighting up to show that you can interact with them (without even hovering over them).

Oh yes! I forgot about that one! :) That one's even older. I need to update these sometime. They are painfully showing the lack of quality I had back then! -

Lol I remember those tracks by Hydrasphere. It was always fun to hear what he would come up with next! I'm glad you liked the track, Ken. That means a lot! -
My soundtrack for KQ3Redux was up for best music. That's kinda nice. Congrats to all those that won, though!

I made this humble cover in rock/metal form of a medley of SQ4 themes a few years back. It was for a video game remix competition called Dwelling of Duels and it actually won 4th place. Looking back, I can do much better now with the recording knowledge and education I've acquired since, but it's still fun to listen to. Here's the link to the MP3, but I'll throw it on YouTube as well. Will add the link when it's done. I always wanted to put more music on my YouTube anyway, what a perfect excuse!
