  1. I totally agree with Mad_C33. Sierra games were difficult but it's hard for me to say they were unfair. I'm a seasoned Sierra adventure gamer so I know what to expect and I know how to avoid situations. When it catches me off guard I applaud the developers for being able to do so. I don't want my games to be entirely predictable, after all. The whole point is to present a challenge worthy to the player. A new list of tasks and challenges to overcome. Something he/she hasn't experienced before. It's understandable that some others don't like adventures this way and don't agree with this philosophy, but deaths were not design flaws. In the least. It's why I prefer Sierra games to LucasArts. And I do love LucasArts. I'm of the smaller minority that believes a Try Again button is too easy and destroys the entire point of deaths. In Space Quest's case, it's not so bad because the deaths had a second purpose; to be funny and outrageously entertaining.
  2. My silly camera isn't working properly. I've never actually tried capturing with it before. Can't get anything over 5 FPS. Terrible. Oh well.
  3. Right. And variety and competition is exactly what the scene has been missing for ages and why Telltale's games suck.
  4. We were going to do the same with SQ2VGA+ way back. But it was decided that it would be too large a feature to implement that too few people would actually use. And we didn't want to postpone the game anymore than necessary.
  5. Some SCI0 EGA mouse/parser games provided a right-click function to look at objects on screen. SQ3 could do this as well. Not many knew, though.
  6. I have Rex but I haven't played it yet. I have a bunch of adventures I need to play, actually. They do have one other adventure game you missed, though. Return of the Phantom.
  7. Actually, it is. In the physical $100 tier label on the spreadsheet:
  8. Post pictures of your SQ collections! I recently acquired the CD version and boxed 5.25" disk version of SQ4. I also ordered the 3.5" disks on eBay and will be getting them soon. It's too bad one of them wasn't the 16-colour version then I could have all three versions in one box! Been wanting to get the boxes again for a long time now. SQ4 was my favourite Space Quest so I got that first. I already have the spaceship/screenshot box of SQ1. I thought I had SQ2 but it must have been lost to the ages. Will slowly get them all again eventually. I only have the front flap from the SQ Collector's Edition box. My parents threw the box out when I was younger :(. I also clearly remember owning the SQ2 box but I don't have that anymore either. I still have the manuals to SQ1 and SQ2 somewhere (including the Kerona coupon from SQ1) but like an idiot I took everything out of the boxes years ago and put them somewhere separate for some strange reason I can't recall right now. I'll find them eventually. It's a somewhat humble collection right now, but it will grow now that I'm older and can spend my money on whatever I want (mostly, I am married with a family).
  9. Just finished season two of Walking Dead. It's really getting dire! I wonder what direction they'll go in the next season. Haven't read the books. I understand they are quite different to a degree, though.
  10. Can't see that. Shows a no hot-linking image. Copy & pasting in the address bar doesn't help either.
  11. Ah, I see the spreadsheet answered my question that the soundtrack IS included in the physical $100 tier. That is not explicitly mentioned in the tier description itself. Pledged!
  12. That's too bad! I never really cared for SQ5's soundtrack as much as SQ4's and SQ1VGA's. SQ5's score composed by you would have been a dream come true for me. Are there at least any particular influences or similarities to other scores you could compare it to to paint a picture of what kind of score it was? Was it similar to what was ultimately composed? I'm not sure you understand we're talking about two alternate scores, do you? The SQ5 soundtrack composed by Ken Allen (not the one that actually was included in the final shipped game, composed by Tim Clarke and Christopher Stevens) is lost to the ages and nobody will ever hear it. Which is sad. :(
  13. The physical copy $100 tier is a little vague. It says you get a big physical box with a DVD of bonus content. It also says you don't get digital downloads of the game or the soundtrack. Does the soundtrack then also come in the box? I don't mind not receiving a digital download of the game if that's the way it has to be. I'll take the physical box. But I really would like to receive the soundtrack as well. Also, I'm wondering if the physical boxed version will also contain the Linux and Mac versions on the disc? But alright, guys! Here we are! Let's do this!
  14. I worry about dumbing down the interface as well. Remember, tablets lend themselves only to basically one button. Not even a right click. You can make it work but you can also limit functionality if you're not careful. It would take some careful design decisions but it's certainly possible. As long as the PC version was designed with the PC in mind and the tablet port with tablets in mind. The CMI/Full Throttle verb-coin interface would work well on tablets, I'd think. But there's only so much screen real-estate on a tablet and fingers are big. You'd have to make whatever interface at least as big as a finger and that can take up a lot of space in the game screen.
  15. It's tough for me to nail down one thing. It's just a great combination of a bunch of things that I loved, pretty much exactly the things you listed, Telix. I also loved the art. It was fantastic. I love sci-fi, it was a wonderful experience to explore the universe where literally anything could pop up next. And it was great humour to boot. Just all around great. True exploration and a journey. True ADVENTURE.
  16. Actually, it is possible. George Broussard frequently used to give out free XBLA Marketplace redemption codes for Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Manhattan Project from his Twitter.
  17. Nice! Is there a list of some sort that shows which games won each award?
  18. Oh! It must be this one, then. You're right, it does sound more like Amok Time than the other one. Maybe that's the one I was thinking of to begin with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnpKjZfkT2Y&feature=BFa&list=PLE13106492FC50BCC
  19. There are a couple themes that are shared between games during the 95/96 era. One of the SQ6 bar themes has a guitar solo that is from LSL6, I think. Also, I'm sure I remember the theme to Polysorbate LX in the Graveyard section in KQ7. I guess because they were all mostly the same composer (Neil Grandstaff or Dan Kehler I can't recall) they decided to throw in some easter eggs.
  20. Thanks for posting that. Subscribed! How fascinating! It's too bad the theme never made it in. I can't wait for that podcast! :)
