You will have the pleasure of suffering through Riven, then. I have plenty more adventure games I can choose from. :)
-
No, no, no! I'm not home from work yet! I'm okay with next weekend if we indeed do it.
-
Knowing me, I'd probably opt for some of the annoyingly difficult adventure games like KGB (Conspiracy), Dagger of Amon Ra, or Riven.
-
How about we do an Adventure Game Free-For-All this weekend then?
-
Sorry I missed it... but I can say without doubt that my weekend was worth missing it over. XD
-
Nope, just San Antonio, TX from Thursday through Monday, though my flight lays over in Atlanta for 45 minutes each ways.
-
Next weekend I'll be in Texas! If I can find a wifi hotspot, I might be able to join in on Sunday.

Irony, Astro Chicken and Cluck Y’Egger

"From the folks who brought you AstroChicken! When it comes to stimulating chickens, Cluck Egger is the expert, and now you can learn from him!" - Space Quest 4 -
Looks like the only ones who will be able to participate are me and Troels. ... ROOT-MONSTER MAZE SHOOTOUT!

"I don't get it ... Ooooh, NOW I get it!"
Dat Engineer replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Starcon Academy
Bear in mind that Josh Mandel co-wrote with Al Lowe from time-to-time... I'm sure that there was some exchanging of ideas going on during that time... -

"You have reached the plateau phase!" :D -
Actually, for obvious reasons, we were hoping that pcj would referee...

"I don't get it ... Ooooh, NOW I get it!"
Dat Engineer replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Starcon Academy
Tons! There's a few that I still don't get. Here's the ones that I eventually did figure out: 1. "It was the chair, really." 2. Phleebhut being a homophone of "flea butt". 3. "As usual, you've been a real pantload." 4. Completely missed that the colonist on Space Quest 5 was a reference to Patrick Stewart. 5. "What's your momma call you?" "A mistake." -
Hey, this is nothing like the time I got to discussing what ranks the chevrons on the StarCon officers' uniforms in SQ5 represented... Or the name of the "Admiral" in the SQ5 meeting room... Or Admiral Toolman's motives for getting rid of Roger... Or...
-
Technically there was no Space Quest 4 either. The adventure that Roger was meant to go through was foiled by Vohaul and the Sequel Police when they brought him to Space Quest 12. :D So we never did get to see the infamously hard (or hardly infamous?) puzzle with the dog, the hanging basket, and the melon...

As has been pointed out numerous times, the creation of StarCon was an attempt to create a plot to join the Space Quest games together. While Space Quest 5 was the origin of this, one might suggest that Space Quest 4 first sowed the seeds of a plotline with the introduction of Beatrice Wankmeister at the end of the game (unless somehow Scott intended for that to be a parody). It seems clear to me that StarCon is intended to be a military organization (the unnamed Admiral in Space Quest 5 scolds Beatrice Wankmeister, a civilian, for attempting to interfere with fleet protocol), though what we see from the player's perspective with regards to their actual workings really isn't much; Roger being a janitor has very little clout and thus not a lot of knowledge about what goes on. From what we can tell, however, they are pretty thoroughly corrupted all the way up to the top brass. Even if all of the planets in the quadrant are joined together in one large federation, StarCon probably doesn't give a toss either way about what their inhabitants are doing. Either that or they were paid off to keep quiet - I can imagine the Pirates of Pestulon doing something like that.

It is downright hilarious that you consider Mass Effect 2 to be a generic action game, but you praise Halo for having basically the same qualities.
-
That's about 40% of Space Quest you've listed there.

EGA version of the SpaceVenture prototype dome

You're a better artist than I, Gunga Dinn. -
That was my first reaction, too. But I think he meant the music emulation sucked. I don't think he was dissing Ken Allen's composition.

Pedantry.
-
All of these things sound like symptoms of a game that was rushed through development, which SQ6 was.
-
I think, based on Troels' reaction anyway, that what I described is what some of us least want to happen... ;) (Though secretly I am hoping that Scott and Mark put a sequence like that in SpaceVenture anyway... just for infamy's sake!)

I did quite well on the Skate-O-Rama considering that I hadn't played Space Quest 4 fully for a good six years. Only four or five deaths! My solution was a bit different from the last time I played it, too. Honestly, I think that section of the game is totally luck-dependent (assuming no outstanding timer issues). Imagine if something like the root monster was a timer-based puzzle. That might be a good idea for a puzzle for a Space Quest: Lost Chapter Two. The root monster maze from Space Quest 2, combined with the crest-scrubbing puzzle from Space Quest 5, the Skate-O-Rama dodging sequence from Space Quest 4, and the acid drops sequence from Space Quest 1. In other words, scrub every pixel surrounding the root monster's roots on a difficult-to-handle Scrub-O-Matic, being careful not to touch the roots, all the while dodging Sequel Police laser bullets. Oh, and watch out for falling acid. Actually, that sounds more like Touhou or Ikaruga than Space Quest.
