Well, we did it! Welcome to the new website! It's still heavily under construction and needs a ton of content but for now we've still got the old website archived and accessible for you to peruse. We've also got a working forum complete with converted database from the old phpbb board so all your accounts and posts should be intact! If you encounter any problems please let us know! We're working hard to make this the best Space Quest site since the last version of SpaceQuest.NET! Any suggestions for what content to add are also welcome. So please speak up and help make this place awesome because you all make it awesome.

 

Some new features of the new site:

 

-All accounts are integrated into the entire website so if you're a reporter you can add content and articles to the rest of the site with the same account you use to access the forums

-You can log into the site with your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts

-You can comment on articles!

-You can like posts/articles!

-You can "Facebook Like" articles!

-You can Tweet articles!

-You can pretty-much-any-social-network-interact with articles!

-If you have a Gravatar account you can use it for your forum avatar (the 2GFA website uses this system as well for comments on their website)

 

There's a lot of features, these are off the top of my head after looking through a bit.

 

EDIT: Anybody who used off-site linked avatars will have to reupload, but otherwise everyone's avatars should be intact.

Heh, you can still set it to notify you by e-mail (when you're offline by default). And it uses Frans' e-mail now. ;)

 

All around, a lot more granular control than phpBB on that.

There is a problem with FB login that I am trying to straighten out. Twitter should work normally. Or you can login the same-old way.

FB login should now work. (There's some really nice features integrating the forum with Facebook - updating your forum profile when you update your FB profile, etc. - when you associate Facebook or Twitter with your forum profile)

Wow, this looks awesome. It'll take some time to get used to all these spiffy new functions, but I'm loving it already. Great job, guys :)

Well... if I ever have children and I want to show them what "Space Quest" is all about, I sure as hell don't want them to think of me as "olzen"!

Looks good. One small criticism, the drop shadow on selected text just kind of smudges it, reducing readability.

Ah I didn't even notice that. Never tried selecting anything. Easily fixable, I imagine.

It'll definitely take some time getting some used too. But that's not to say we won't be listening to your criticism! So please share any thoughts you might have. The look & feel still needs some tweaking. And I'd love some additional features myself... We'll get there. The pase will be a bit different I imagine, compared to ten years ago.

I found a tool tip that does not populate. The foum group titles display "View %s".

The problem has been fixed

I'm not sure how much is set in stone at the moment, but if I can offer a suggestion, we might consider changing the link in the site's navigation bar from "Janitorial Times" to "Forum" or "Community."

 

I like keeping Janitorial Times as the actual name of the forum, but a first-time visitor to the site isn't going to know that it's a message forum just from the name. That's why I think something more descriptive might work better as far as the navbar label goes.

 

Otherwise, things are looking great. I can't wait to see what's next.

Hmm, I agree with Jess there. For a first-time visitor, "The Janitorial Times" sounds more like a blog or a news page.

OK, I've changed it to Forums.

I thought about that but now it doesn't say The Janitorial Times anywhere noticable. I suppose I could change the logo specifically for the forum.

"The Janitorial Times" is visible in the breadcrumbs.
