"We Want a New Space Quest Game" Facebook group
Collector replied to Troels Pleimert's topic in Andromedan Spaceport
Ryan was not part of any of the main communities that I know of, let alone on the official Sierra boards. I suspect that he is a younger person that didn't grow up with these games when they were new. That would explain his immature nature. The SQ community seemed to leave the official boards sooner than the fans of the other series. Of the fan communities the main KQ was (then) Kimmie's Sierra Planet where nothing much dramtic happened there. There was probably more drama on the fan SQ communities than others. But then we were all much younger then. -

Many of "those massive flamefests" were instigated by Ryan Nicotera. I left the Sierra Gamers group too. I was getting tired of the flaming crap as well. But that was not the only thing. I was having a number of other things that I had just got tired of. One of the admins kept deleting my posts, even though I was not posting anything offensive. I had one of the admins contacting me for help over technical issues and then never respond to my messages. Many of the new members that were never part of any of the core Sierra communities were pretty dismissive of me. Not that I need my ego stroked, but to be treated by some outsider as if I knew nothing about solving problems with playing Sierra games is a bit much. Then some would just tell others to ignore what I poated and get the game from GOG, not realizing that I have designed many of GOG's releases directly or indirectly. After Rudy turned over admin of the group I had decided I had had enough. That said, I am not sure I want to deal with a new group started by the author of many of those flamefests, as much as I would love to have the rights for a new SQ given to the 2 Guys. I think that is inevitable if the new KQ does well enough. Additionally, a new SQ group can only further spread the SQ community too thin. Brandon Klassen had already started his SQ fans group. If anything, any FB presence of the SQ community should be an extension of this one. Does anyone know who admins the main SQ group on FB? -

He added me to the group, but I have not yet accepted. It is Ryan Nicotera, after all. If you have not been aware he has caused enough problems to get banned from the Sierra Gamers and Sierra Chest groups. -

New SQ3 secret: QA-O-Matic *UPDATED* not actually new...

Ken once mentioned that Jeff Stephenson tried to explain object oriented programming to him, but just couldn't quite grasp it. But of course by the time that they were developing SCI it had probably been a while since Ken had done any programming. That would be fun. But if course I still want to see KQ2 in SCI0. -
Blue frogs in the Time Pod NEW : Now (maybe) solved!

By that I assume that you have the 2006 VU collection. Those releases are real nightmares. This is about the KQ 2006 VU release, but all four had very similar issues. http://sierrahelp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=657 They were missing games, missing files, poorly configured games with the dosbox.conf hardcoded into that funky launcher. And to cap it all off it uses a VERY old version of DOSBox that creates a host of problems on its own. Just use the new installer. It corrects all issues with this piss poor release. http://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/NewSierraInstallers.html#Collections If you have one of the other collections, download the one that matches the collection version you have.- 53 replies

Blue frogs in the Time Pod NEW : Now (maybe) solved!
Collector replied to BlockMaster's topic in Starcon Academy
SIERRA.INI is not used for the DOS version. patchDir= \SIERRA\SQ4 is your problem. All the "." or ".\" means is the current directory regardless of path. Depending on your DOBox mountings "\SIERRA\SQ4" may not exist. It would mean that you had a SIERRA sub director with a SQ4subdirectory under that. If your patch files are in a "PATCHES" folder then patchDir=.\;.\PATCHES willget the game to look in the game's base folder and in a PATCHES subdirectory. This is why the new installers help. It is done for you automatically.- 53 replies

Yes, but I don't have it. The later version would have been bug fixes. Earlier versions were probably replaced soon after the initial release for the bug fixes. Also, the game versions for the different platforms would have had little to do with other platforms. Part of the different game versions were very dependent on the interpreter version, which were way off from other platforms.

The DOS version of SQ1 AGI was first. It was released in Oct, 1986 in North America. Most of the other platforms were released in 1987. While AGI was intended to be portable, it was designed to be primarily for the PCjr. Atari was never a primary target for Sierra. At that time DOS/Tandy/PCjr and Apple would have been their primary markets. As far as I know there was no Atari release of SQ1VGA. It was a late SCI1 game that would have been a bit beyond the capability of the Atari. It was released for DOS, Amiga and Mac.

Let's remember that trying to do it on the cheap was probably necessary given the lower sales of the remakes. The remakes did not sell well enough to warrant their continuation. People wanted new games, not remakes of games that they had already played. Ken once said that he had learned that you can't really hurry the creative people, so taking the remakes out of the hands of the original designers was probably a necessary measure to keep a low return game within budget. Also, the 2 guys would have been commanding higher salaries. I'm sure that Ken also wanted his primary designers working on new games where sales could be expected to be higher. The one paying the bills has to make sound fiscal decisions.

What do you think this is? Festivus?

Sorry, but using a bridle to ride a horse or horse like animal is not non sequiter moon logic. There may be illogical, unfair puzzles in the Sierra games, but this is not one of them. And Roberta was against the use of hint books.

I am not that big of an LA fan, but found Full Throttle to be a lot of fun.

You might want to try the "Ultimate KQ4" version. http://sierrahelp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3925&start=60#p53395

Alt+D -> bye bye wizard

I wonder how many even recognize that these days.

Pretty sure MI has played KQ3.

That was nothing more than Steam mislabeled DLC in a way that some entitled kids took as the stand alone game.

Or from "Tools" > "Install Munt Driver" in the SCI Sound Utilities, but that just uses the QT app driver installer. My installer was a standalone.
-
You still have to install the driver on the QT app. It comes with an installer that works on x64. It has not been updated for some time now, but I added the QT app in my SCI Sound Utilities that made it easy to install and use. I also had made an installer for the Munt driver that works on x64, but again it is dated by now. I gave the script to King Guppy upon request when they were looking for a solution for installing the driver on x64. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a quirk with Vista and higher where the "wdmaud.drv" keeps duplicating it self and fills all of the available MIDI slots (there are only 10). This leaves no place for the required Munt entry. You only need one entry for the "wdmaud.drv" in the MIDI devices and you can safely remove one of the entries if there is more than one. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 If the driver fails to properly install, this is probably the most likely cause.
